Indian diaspora welcomes Kanimozhi led all-party delegation in Latvia with 'Sindoor Samagam' event
Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi led all-party delegation saw a 'Sindoor Samman' event in Riga organised by the Indian diaspora in Latvia to welcome Group 6. The delegation interacted with the Indian diaspora members during the event.
A member of the Indian diaspora, sharing his interaction experience with the all-party delegation led by MP Kanimozhi and Operation Sindoor, said that terror operations are always good and should be conducted for the country's security.
"Anti-terrorism operations are always good and it should be done for our security and all the steps taken by the government are right", he told ANI.
Another Indian diaspora member hailed the Operation Sindoor conducted by the Indian armed forces and stated that it has saved the Indian citizens. She said that all Indians are united and the delegation visiting Latvia was also "great".
"It was a very brave action from our end...We saved our people...The delegation visiting various countries is great. All Indians are united", she said.
An Indian diaspora member said that India has suffered a lot due to terrorism over the years and it is good that the Indian government has taken a very firm stance against terrorism. He extended his support to India and its leaders.
'Our nation has suffered a lot from terrorism. We are a big and secular nation. It is very good that the government of India has taken a firm stance against terrorism and efforts to divide our nation...We support our nation and our leaders,' he said.
Earlier, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi on Friday (local time), who is leading an all-party delegation to Latvia, emphasised India's unity following the Pahalgam terror attack and said that "nothing is going to divide us anymore."
Interacting with the Indian diaspora in Latvia, Kanimozhi said, "When our Indian tourists were attacked and we lost 26 innocent lives in front of their families, loved ones, children and with a message - Go tell your Prime Minister, go tell your country people that we asked you what your faith is. They hope to divide us as a country. They hope to divide us on our beliefs. But when the people of Kashmir came out to the streets to protest against Pakistan as Indians and stood together, the message was very clear that nothing is going to divide us anymore."
Meanwhile, former Indian Ambassador to the European Union Manjeev Singh Puri, speaking about the delegation's earlier meeting with the Latvian parliamentarians, said, "We met the parliamentarians who were very strong and good and were very clear that terrorism has no place in their thinking and has no place... Latvia is likely to be elected to the Security Council and will be there next year. They had a number of people who were in this area of focusing on global issues, and we had a very strong discussion on how it was important for the world to be focused on this."
"They also recognise something which I find very interesting, that India is a country with great equities, and all countries want to strengthen and build more relations with India, and that's something which is really very nice because it's a very clear sign that India is a country of interest to people," he added.

Air India CEO says airline looking to replace tie-up with Turkish aircraft maintenance company Amid continuing military tensions with Pakistan, Air India is exploring alternatives to replace Turkiye-based aircraft maintenance provider, Turkish Technic, following boycott calls sparked by Ankara's support for Pakistan during last month's cross-border strikes. Simultaneously, the airline has requested the government for $600 million annual subsidy to counter losses from flight disruptions triggered by Pakistan's airspace closure since April. 'We are cognisant of the [public] opinion. As we can find alternatives, we'll try direct aircraft there. It's not an overnight or easy solution.' Air India CEO Campbell Wilson told The Hindu in response to a question on whether the airline would revisit its agreement with Turkish Technic amidst calls for boycott. The airline sends its Boeing 777, legacy as well as those leased from Delta Airlines and Etihad post privatisation, to Turkiye for maintenance operations. The airline is already grappling with a delay in the retrofit of its legacy narrowbody and widebody aircraft, and a complete retrofit or refurnishing of its 13 legacy Boeing 777 now stands postponed with the aircraft set to undergo a limited 'heavy refresh' next year that involves new carpets and seat covers. 'We've got a number of widebody aircraft that require maintenance, including the refit. There isn't the capacity in India to do that for wide-body aircraft and we've had to farm aircraft out to AIESL [Air India Engineering Services Limited- a government-owned MRO]. Obviously, they can't do all of it. We've sent some to Abu Dhabi, some to Singapore, and indeed some to Turkish,' Mr Wilson explained. Air India's low-cost arm, Air India Express, too has an agreement with the Turkish company for component support and solution needs of 190 Boeing 737 aircraft, that include services such as component pooling, repair, overhaul, modification, and logistics services of Turkish Technic. Recently, the DGCA also said that IndiGo has until August 30 to terminate its agreement for leasing two widebody Boeing 777 aircraft from Turkish Airlines which the former has been using since 2023 to provide flights to Istanbul from Delhi and Mumbai after technical challenges in using its own narrow- body Airbus A320 and A321 that had to either take a mid-way fuel stop or carry less than the full load of passengers. The government has also revoked Turkish ground-handling company Celebi's security clearance across airports. But the impact of the military tensions on Indo-Pak border for two of the biggest airlines in India don't end here. The demand was made after the government asked airlines to share their assessment of the impact of the airspace closure. 'In order to operate non-stop with a longer flight route, we can't fill all of the seats or all of the cargo capacity,' the airline CEO said. 'We're getting better at optimising the flight route and mitigate the impact on our customers, operations and finances,' Campbell added. The accused, in charge of a school and a hostel, had scolded the deceased following a complaint by another student. After the incident, the student killed himself. A Bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra stated that no ordinary person could have imagined that a scolding would result in such a tragedy. EC to cancel EPIC of Afghan nationals living illegally in Patna house
Lucknow: Following TOI's May 29 report about a house in Patna that allegedly became a hotbed for immigrants with multiple fake Indian identity cards, the Election Commission of India is set to remove their elector's photo identity card (EPIC) from the electoral roll. The move is significant as Bihar assembly polls are around the corner. Jandullah Dad Mohammad, an Afghan national from Paktika province, was living at Patna's Wakil Anwer House, impersonating as Rehan, son of Kabir, alongside his brother Mansur. After entering India on a six-day medical visa in December 2019, Jandullah went off the radar in Delhi. By 2020, he had managed to obtain a complete set of fake Indian identity documents. His EPIC (AFS3853934), Indian passport (C6978659), Aadhaar card (322874855132), PAN card (ETXPR8222K), driving license (BR0120210005369), SBI bank passbook (39914603822), Patna Municipal Corporation issued birth certificate (B-2019 10-90097 025254), and even a ration card painted a convincing picture of an Indian citizen. "We are now preparing to revoke the EPIC issued in the name of Rehan," said electoral registration officer (ERO) Raghvendra Pratap Singh. The accused foreign national is currently lodged in Lucknow jail after being caught by the Bureau of Immigration from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on May 19. The ECI's consolidated electoral list, published on Jan 7, 2025, under a special summary revision, revealed that the Wakil Anwer House has 12 male occupants, all in their 20s and 30s except one, with no women registered. At least four of them shared identical details: Same age, same father's name (Kabir), and EPICs. Kabir's real identity has been established as Dad Mohammad Khan. His elder son Mansur, who left for Dubai more than six months ago, is registered in electoral roll with two EPICs AFS4130290, AFS4127999. Another resident, Mohammad Sher Khan, also had dual EPICs AFS4129953 and AFS4125266. "Currently, Kabir is missing from Wakil Anwer House, with no confirmation of his existence, though locals confirm his presence in Patna 7-8 years ago. We have cancelled Mansur's and Mohammad Sher Khan's EPICs... One individual cannot have two EPICs," said ERO Raghvendra. He added, "The owner of Wakil Anwer House has not returned to Patna from New Delhi till date. He has now assured to be back around June 9, following which he would furnish details of everyone living in his property."
