Notre Dame Running Backs Left Off Of CBS Sports Dynamic Duos List In 2025

Notre Dame Running Backs Left Off Of CBS Sports Dynamic Duos List In 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Recently, CBS Sports released a list of their perceived dynamic duos in college football that they believe will define the National Championship race. In years past, we have seen this to be true, whether it's a dynamic one-two punch at running back, a strong quarterback-wide receiver connection or a pair of defensive players who will give opposing offenses nightmares. Overall, outside of one honorable mention, this list is fairly reasonable if it weren't for one thing: there's no mention of Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price anywhere on this list.

Here is CBS Sports dynamic duo rankings and honorable mentions:
1. RB Nicholas Singleton and RB Kaytron Allen, Penn State
2. LB Anthony Hill Jr. and EDGE Collin Simmons, Texas
3. WR Jeremiah Smith and WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State
4. DE T.J. Parker and DT Peter Woods, Clemson
5. QB Sam Leavitt and WR Jordyn Tyson, Arizona State
Honorable Mentions
WR Antonio Williams and WR Bryant Wesco, Clemson
WR Ryan Williams and WR Germie Bernard, Alabama
WR Cam Coleman and WR Eric Singleton Jr., Auburn
I have zero issues with some of the duos ranked in the top five. Singleton and Allen combined for 2,735 total yards last year and 27 total touchdowns. Hill and Simmons combined for 30.5 tackles for a loss, 17.0 sacks and 161 tackles last season for the Longhorns. Smith and Tate are arguably the best one-two punch at receiver in college football and Smith is the best returning wideout in college football this season. Parker and Smith combined for 28.0 tackles for a loss, 14.0 sacks and 83 total tackles last season for Clemson.

Despite these fantastic duos coming back in college football, I can't wrap my head around the rationale of completely leaving off a duo in Love and Price who combined last season for 2,118 yards total yards, 26 total touchdowns and averaged a combined 6.6 yards per carry. The Love/Price duo rushed for 338 less yards than the Singleton/Allen duo but had 109 less combined carries in 2024. Notre Dame's dynamic duo also accounted for more total yards and more touchdowns than Ohio State's duo in Smith and Tate.
Love and Price's production and impact of their team wasn't even good enough in the eyes of CBS Sports to receive an honorable mention spot? How in the world does Coleman and Singleton get named on this list when they have yet to take a snap together in a college game at Auburn? If that's the case then Jaden Greathouse and Malachi Fields also deserve a spot on this list. Fields accounted for more receiving yards, touchdowns and averaged more yards per catch on less catches than Singleton in 2024.
There have been several outlets, including CBS Sports, that have ranked Penn State and Notre Dame as having the No. 1 and No. 2 backfields in the country ahead of the 2025 season. Love and Price should have a spot on this list and it's unfortunate that they don't. I don't disagree completely with some of the duos listed here, but based on how the others were evaluated, I don't see a world where you can leave off No. 4 and No. 24 in the blue and gold.

LSU Football Preview 2025: Brian Kelly Has Been Better Than You Think

It's so easy to dunk on Brian Jesus knows, Notre Dame fans love to spend their idle time doing just that, as they meme away about how their program is rocking and rolling under Marcus Freeman, while LSU played for the Texas provides plenty of material with a screamy rant here, a punched table there, and a few goofy-fun things to lighten the mood. Such is the life of being a high-profile head coach at a school that demands national titles, or at least College Football Playoff appearances. But Kelly has been better so far than he gets credit for ... sort of. X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN LSU Offense BreakdownLSU Defense BreakdownSeason Prediction, Win Total, Keys to SeasonLSU has yet to win an SEC Championship, and it hasn't been all that close to winning a national title. It got to the 2022 title game and lost to Georgia 50-30, right after losing to a Texas A&M team that finished with a losing is 0-3 now at LSU in season openers, last year's team collapsed just when it was time to kick it in, the defenses haven't been great, and … Nick Saban went 28-12 in his first three seasons at LSU. Brian Kelly is three seasons, Kelly has half as many double-digit win runs at LSU as Kentucky has enjoyed in 109 years of college football, half as many as South Carolina has put up in 117 seasons, one fewer than Mississippi State has logged in 120 years, two more than the none from Vanderbilt in its football history, as many as Auburn has scored since the 2010 national title campaign, and …Texas A&M has as many double-digit win seasons since leaving the Southwest Conference as Brian Kelly has cranked out in the last three years. There's a LOT to criticize Brian Kelly about - I can not believe how much I defend him - but the dude is the winningest head football coach at the University of Notre Dame, and last year was the first in eight seasons that he didn't win double-digit games - he won just about any other school, considering the crash at the end of the Ed Orgeron era, there would be statues created for a coach who won 39 games with three bowl victories - and a Heisman winner - in his first three years. But this is LSU. The school's last three head coaches all won national titles. Orgeron did it in his fourth full season. Les Miles won it all in Year Three, but Saban did it in his fourth is Brian Kelly's fourth season in Baton Rouge. It's National Championship Winning time.(Or, by any reasonable standard, at least get to the College Football Playoff.) Michigan's McHale Blade, new 2026 commit, recruits elite prospects at Victors Weekend

It hadn't even been two weeks since he visited and subsequently committed to Michigan football, but there he was, back on campus again -- this time hunting rather than being the hunted. 2026 Chicago (Ill.) Simeon four-star edge rusher McHale Blade was thought to be a Notre Dame lean, but he shocked the world when he wound up choosing to be in Ann Arbor over South Bend on June 9. Blade took his official visit from June 6-8, but he made it back to campus on June 20 for Victors Weekend -- the recruiting event that had the entire committed class in tow, along with several key top targets remaining on the board. So what was it like for Blade to come back to campus, but as a commit this time? He says he felt 'at home' and that it was a bit more of a relaxing experience. But that doesn't mean that he relaxed. In fact, he was in Ann Arbor to be a sniper, working every room he was in. "I knew a lot of the recruits from just previous visits, so I was kind of just there to kind of hang out with the guys and stuff like that," Blade said. "But yeah, I was really there to help recruit and talk to the guys, and it was pretty cool, hanging out with a lot of the D-linemen there. Titan (Davis) and Carter Meadows and all of those guys that I got to hang out with, so it was pretty cool." Who Blade is recruiting and his pitch If Blade was on campus actively recruiting, then he's got one in the bag, with 2026 St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet four-star defensive tackle Titan Davis having committed on Monday. But there's another prospect he was with during the weekend that he'd really like to join the class in Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga five-star EDGE Carter Meadows, and Blade says that he's about to start working on Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter, too. "Obviously, Titan just committed, but I kind of already knew that from speaking with him," Blade said. "And Meadows, I'd like to play with him -- just really all the edges that were there that I met. I'd like to play with those guys; that'd be a very, very solid group. I'm reaching out to those guys. "Also, I know there's a big running back target at Michigan, (Savion Hiter). Yeah, I'd love to try to reach out to him as well. I just want to get a bunch of my guys together, just take over this whole class." With that said, what's his pitch? After all, he was the one being pitched just a few short weeks ago, so there's a strong selling point. He put it simply: "Michigan, it gives us everything we need, and it gives you everything you could possibly ask for, like from a development standpoint," Blade said. "It has everything, which is why I really committed because it kind of just had everything I needed. As a D-lineman, Michigan would be the place that you would want to be." It wasn't all about others Of course, Blade got to have a good time outside of trying to recruit for the class. He got an opportunity to meet former Michigan football defensive lineman and recently retired Philadelphia Eagles star Brandon Graham. While it could have just been a cool meet-and-greet moment, it appears to be more than that for Blade. Because Graham being back on campus after more than a decade away shows just how special Michigan football is to those who stayed. "Oh yeah, man -- that was amazing," Blade said. "He kind of just popped up unexpectedly, and they say that -- a lot of the staff members and coaches, they say that -- all the time, a lot of the older guys, they always just come back. And that also means a lot to me -- that if they're coming back, (that's) saying something. But he just kind of popped up out of nowhere, and I talked it up with him. He even followed me on Instagram and all that, so it was pretty cool to meet him." Blade is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 168 player overall, the 21st-ranked EDGE, and the fourth-best player in the state of Illinois.

Rivals Five-Star: Teams that should be pleased

INDIANAPOLIS – The Rivals Five-Star is all wrapped up and the competition at the event was once again elite. As the dust from the day settles, Rivals looks at some of the college football programs that should be most pleased at this stage. Grant Wise hoisted 27 reps against a loaded field, a mark that would have slated him in the top 10 at this year's NFL Scouting Combine. Advertisement Fellow future CU blockers Chancellor Barclay and Carter Scruggs worked out successfully against the loaded field, especially while working inside. Both Wise and Barclay won their fair share of reps at the center position, too. Tiger quarterback commitment Tait Reynolds always impresses from a physical standpoint and he showed off some touch during the 7-on-7 portion of the day as well. At the skill spots, wide receiver Naeem Burroughs flashed with his elite speed and Shavar Young held his own in coverage, looking fluid in the process. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH CLEMSON FANS AT GEORGIA Georgia had plenty of commitments and targets each working against one another and the group didn't disappoint. In-state pledge Ryan Mosley made plays at both safety and wide receiver at times, winning several routes as a pass-catcher during one-on-ones. Advertisement The latter also encompasses the day for big tight end commitment Lincoln Keyes, who showed some of the best hands among pass catchers as well. Secondary commitment Jordan Smith showcased strong technique and length to make plays at the catch point as did top targets Chace Calicut and Brody Jennings on Tuesday. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT NOTRE DAME Notre Dame commitments made plays all over the field at the Rivals Five-Star. Secondary commitment Joey O'Brien worked both sides of the ball in the afternoon session, snagging multiple touchdown grabs and flashing the athleticism with a head-turning back-flip en route to another win. Advertisement Running back Javian Osborne showed up to the event rocked up, but still plenty speedy, impressing coaches as both a blocker and pass catcher throughout the day. Tyler Merrill also showed up bigger than expected, in a good way, and made considerable plays as a blocker to the surprise of few onlookers. Fellow ND commitments Chaston Smith and Gregory Patrick also showed up to compete. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NOTRE DAME FANS AT OHIO STATE One could argue that the Buckeyes could have had the best day of any group of commitments in action at the Five-Star. Not only did Ohio State sport the defensive line MVP in Khary Wilder, who won out in perhaps the most contested position battle of the day, but multiple players who nearly took home hardware on their end as well. Advertisement Offensive lineman Sam Greer was among the best blockers of the entire event, making some of the splash plays along with plenty of consistent wins at tackle and guard alike. Wide receiver Jamier Brown of the 2027 class made as many big plays as any wideout in attendance, flashing deep speed along the way. Quarterback Brady Edmunds dialed up the RPMs in the QB challenge and running back Favour Akih held his own in the morning session. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT TENNESSEE The Tennessee commitment performance came later in the day after Tyreek King arrived in the afternoon. The No. 1-ranked slot talent made up for lost time in a big way, hauling in several scores during 7-on-7 play. There is legitimate speed and twitch at play with the in-state pledge and it put plenty of pressure on defensive backs of all types. Advertisement The biggest athlete on hand is also a UT pledge in Gabe Osenda, the big blocker who worked tackles and guard spots well on the day after an MVP effort at the Atlanta regional camp. Tight end Carson Sneed is also on the bigger side, and showed reliable hands and short-area power against the strong field. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT TEXAS A&M With a quartet of commitments on hand, the Texas A&M group also commanded attention with the amount of plays made on both sides of the ball. Helman Casuga started the day off strong in the quarterback challenge, flashing a smooth release and accurate delivery. Advertisement Wide receiver Aaron Gregory was the best future Aggie from a consistency standpoint, nearly taking home wide receiver MVP honors in helping his team to the 7-on-7 championship. Gregory is smooth and polished on offense, but his most impactful play may have been an interception at the goal line in the title game itself. Up front, Jordan Carter worked well against the strong group of offensive linemen, winning with both quickness and power off the edge. Linebacker Samu Moala flashed in coverage with great straight line speed despite immense size and even made plays on offense during the 7-on-7 portion of the event.
