Charles Barkley Makes NBA Finals Prediction: Emphasizes Role Of Thunder's Bench In Beating Pacers originally appeared on Fadeaway World.
The scene is set for the 2025 NBA Finals as the Indiana Pacers will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. With a few days left before Game 1, NBA legend Charles Barkley made his prediction for the Finals while speaking on the "Dan Patrick Show" recently. He said:
"I think they [Pacers] can make it competitive. I've been saying it for a month, nobody can beat that team [OKC] four times in a week. The Pacers have got a good team. But OKC, they're one of the best teams I've seen in a long time. They might be the deepest NBA team I've ever seen."
Barkley pointed to OKC's ability to place players in games even when they weren't part of the rotation previously, praising their depth and versatility. "That's going to really negate the Pacers' bench, which helped them beat the Knicks," he added. "The Thunder, they're bringing better players off the bench than the Pacers."
"Pacers have got a terrific bench, but Oklahoma City got better bench players."
Barkley concluded by saying, "I hope it's a good series. But I don't think anybody can beat OKC four times in a week."

The matchup between the two teams certainly promises to be an exciting one. Both teams have had Finals appearances, but have never won. With an opportunity to bring the first title to their respective franchises, it is safe to say that the series will be a battle.
The Thunder are led by the league's MVP and WCF MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The 26-year-old has been nothing short of spectacular during this playoff run.
His ability to carry OKC's offense on his back and facilitate easier scoring opportunities makes him vital to their schemes. Closely supported by his All-Defensive running mate Jalen Williams, the Thunder backcourt makes for an impressive star duo.
While OKC's backcourt is impressive enough, their frontcourt features immensely gifted players such as Lu Dort and Chet Holmgren, who routinely make essential contributions to the team's success. Pair this with an unrivaled bench mob, and Sam Presti's experiment yields one of the most successful roster constructions in recent history.

While the Thunder are impressive in their own right, the Pacers don't pale in comparison. Led by an inspiring young talent in Tyrese Haliburton and the ECF MVP Pascal Siakam, Indiana is an unpredictable force capable of overcoming even the most unlikely of situations.
The Pacers' run in the postseason has displayed the team's unyielding tenacity, especially when the chips are down. With their backs against the wall, the team has shown a capacity to conjure miracles, especially Haliburton, who has surely silenced a lot of naysayers during this run.
A decisive ECF victory against Indiana sees the team in the NBA Finals for the first time in 25 years. On the verge of etching their names in the history books, this Pacers team is bound to come out all guns blazing.
The NBA Finals will feature two young teams that play an exciting brand of basketball. They will engage in their first matchup on Thursday, June 5th, at 8:30 pm ET.

Looking at 4 wings Boston Celtics could pick in 2025 NBA Draft

For now, the Celtics' next agenda of the offseason is the 2025 NBA Draft. They hold the No. 28 and No. 32 picks in the upcoming draft, set for June 25-26. So they'll have some options at the end of the first round and the top of the second. The C's could end up making some trades like they've done in the past, but for now, they're armed with two draft picks. MassLive already looked at four potential guards who could be around when the Celtics are on the clock for the draft. Advertisement Now, here's a closer look at four potential wings the Celtics could pick: Drake Powell, North Carolina 2024-25 stats: 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 25.5 minutes in 34 games. Shot 48.3% from the field and 37.9% on 3-pointers. There was some thought that Powell could return to college, but he was firm in that he was staying in the NBA Draft process. Powell was a one-and-done product after playing a single season with the Tar Heels as he won't turn 20 until later this year. The counting stats don't pop off the page as took just 5.7 shots per game at North Carolina. However, he had some eye-popping numbers coming out of the draft combine. Powell was measured with a 7-foot wingspan. Notably, he also came in at 37.5 inches standing vertical leap and his max vertical leap was 43 inches. Advertisement The athleticism and defensive potential are both there. His 3-point shooting number looks solid, though it was only on 2.6 attempts per game, and he shot 64.8% on free throws. Still, that's an intriguing prospect at this point in the draft. Adou Thiero, Arkansas 2024-25 stats: 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 27.5 minutes in 27 games. Shot 54.5% from the field and 25.6% on 3-pointers. Thiero comes in with some versatility and a solid frame as he was measured in at 6-foot-6 with a 7-foot wingspan. He's an athletic wing and slasher who could fit well with the Celtics. He started his career at Kentucky for the first two years before transferring to Arkansas, where he was a major contributor. He turned 21 last month, so he's not a super old prospect. Advertisement The knock on him is his shooting as that's just not a part of his game at this point. Thiero does a lot of things well but that's the one area the Celtics would like to see some improvement if they go this route. Thiero also shot 68.6% on 6.5 free throw attempts per game last season, so that doesn't look super promising there either. Hugo Gonzalez, Real Madrid (Spain) 2024-25 stats: 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists in 14.8 minutes in 60 games in Liga ACB, per EuroBasket. Shot 44.5% from the field and 28% on 3-pointers. Gonzalez is one of the more intriguing prospects of this draft considering his age and where he's playing. Gonzalez just turned 19 years old and already playing for Real Madrid. He didn't get much playing time at the beginning of the year, though he's seen some more recently. Advertisement One thing about Gonzalez is that he can't go through predraft workouts because Real Madrid just started its playoff run. Considering it's the No. 1 seed, the playoffs could go for a while ahead of the draft. There's a lot to like about his game on both sides of the court, though he'll need to grow into his frame. But considering his age, there's some intrigue there too for NBA front offices. Alex Toohey, Sydney Kings (Australia) 2024-25 stats: 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 22.9 minutes in 30 games, per the NBL. Shot 45.2% on field goals. Toohey was committed to Gonzaga but elected to stay closer to home in Australia, where he's developed into a potential NBA draft pick. He was measured in at nearly 6-foot-8 at the draft combine with a 6-foot-11 wingspan. So he brings size and had a maximum vertical leap of 31.5 inches. Advertisement Toohey has shown he can get out in transition but shooting is another question mark. He turned 21 years old last month, so he's not super young but also not that old. Will need to bulk up a bit more to play in the NBA game but can be a versatile defender with his frame. More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.

Mariners Make Logan Gilbert Announcement After Velocity Dip

Mariners Make Logan Gilbert Announcement After Velocity Dip originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite another spectacular home run-saving catch by Julio Rodriguez, the Seattle Mariners dropped their series opener 5-4 to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. Advertisement However, they may soon have some reinforcements on the way as they try to keep pace with the AL West-leading Houston Astros. Seattle ace Logan Gilbert continues to work his way back from a right elbow flexor strain, which has shelved him since late April. During his second rehab outing on Wednesday, the 28-year-old threw 60 pitches across three innings, allowing five hits, one walk, one hit batter and two earned runs. SI's Teren Kowatsch noted that, "He touched 96.8 mph on his fastball in the first inning, but his velocity dipped to just under 94 mph at the end of his outing. His average velocity was 95.4 mph." However, Gilbert acknowledged afterward he "wasn't concerned" about it, as reported by The Seattle Times' Adam Jude. Advertisement On Friday, Mariners manager Dan Wilson announced Friday that Gilbert will make "at least" one more rehab start with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, according to Daniel Kramer. Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert (36) delivers a Hamilton-Imagn Images Kramer added that while the date has not yet been confirmed, "it'd likely be on Tuesday." If that outing were to go well, it could put Gilbert on track to rejoin his Seattle teammates for the Mariners' upcoming six-game homestand against the Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox. Through his first six big-league starts this season, the Mariners ace has posted a sparkling 2.37 ERA and 0.79 WHIP across 30 1/3 innings with 44 strikeouts.
