Glasgow man sent penny bank transfers to ex with 'please speak to me'

Glasgow man sent penny bank transfers to ex with 'please speak to me'

Glasgow Times14-05-2025

Josh Harkness spent months bombarding his ex with messages, including using the references from tiny bank transfers.
The 29-year-old also pushed a very elderly man on a train platform in a completely unprovoked attack.
A court heard Harkness was in a relationship with a woman for about six months in 2023 while they were working for the same employer.
The relationship ended on January 21, 2024 but Harkness continued to make contact with phone calls and WhatsApp messages.
His ex, in Clydebank, repeatedly told him she didn't want contact.
At one point, he sent three bank transfers, two of 2p and one of 3p, with the references including messages such as, "please speak to me" and "I love you" and "please call me".
Sometimes she would answer calls - to tell him to stop.
Once Harkness, of Strachur Grove, Lambhill, Glasgow, called from a payphone because his ex had blocked his mobile number.
He asked why she was doing this, fiscal depute Charis Jackson told Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
The ex later reported concerns to police.
Harkness then turned up with flowers at the home of the woman's former partner to pass on to her.
That ex contacted police and Harkness was arrested on July 25. He spoke freely to officers and said he had experienced "grief" at the end of the relationship.
He said he was aware his ex reported his behaviour to management at work.
When he was cautioned and charged, he replied: "It's not right - she owes me money."
He appeared at court for that crime on August 13 and was granted bail.
Later that day, his ex walked out of the Aldi in Kilbowie Retail Park, Clydebank, and saw items on her vehicle windscreen.
There was a scratch card and a ScotRail ticket with, "Why did you not say hi to me when you seen me?" written on it.
The woman then saw Harkness standing on a roundabout on Montrose Street which allows access towards Clydebank police office.
In a third unrelated case, also on the same day he was given bail, August 13, Harkness was at Dumbarton Central rail station.
He said to an 86-year-old man there, "do I know you big man?" and then pushed him with force.
A train pulled up and he boarded, got off at Dumbarton East, then returned back to Central where police arrested him.
He later pleaded guilty to that assault, while on bail.
And he admitted that between January 21 and July 6, 2024, he engaged in a course of conduct that caused fear and alarm. It was aggravated by being against an ex-partner.
And he admitted breaking bail to not approach his ex when he contacted her at Aldi.
Sheriff Colin Pettigrew noted Harkness's "apparent misunderstanding of the word 'no'".
And he was concerned that he went "straight from court to commit an offence on the same date".
Defence solicitor Judith Reid said social workers noticed a "significant naivety" on his part.
The sheriff said: "I can understand following a break-up there may be one party that wants to reconcile. I get that.
"She didn't want any contact. You went straight from this court and you didn't wait minutes and go and do it."
He imposed a community payback order with 12 months of supervision by social workers. Harkness must also do 200 hours of unpaid work.
For the assault on the rail platform, sentence was deferred for six months to see his progress.
The sheriff said it was "fortunate there was no injury" but "a very senior citizen was going about his lawful business" and was subjected to a completely unprovoked attack.
Harkness's ex will be protected from any contact from him for two years.

Scots OnlyFans teacher who sold x-rated pics struck off by watchdog

Kirsty Buchan who previously taught at Bannerman High School has been struck off the teaching register. A Scots teacher who was sacked for selling X-rated photos on OnlyFans has been struck off. Kirsty Buchan, 34, of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, left her role at Bannerman High School in Glasgow when her explicit sideline was revealed. Pupils had got wind of the full-frontal content and some parents were furious. ‌ The physics teacher claimed she only started to post images to make money amid a pay row. In an interview with the Record in 2022 she later claimed to have made £60,000 in just one month by sharing photos of herself on the adult site. ‌ Glasgow City Council launched a probe into Buchan and referred the case to the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). The mum-of-one's case went before a disciplinary panel where she faced three allegations against her. The education watchdog found that she had failed to conceal her identity and profession, and that her behaviour lacked integrity. It comes just a few days after the 34-year-old spoke to the Record blasting education bosses for their 'Victorian values', while saying she was too busy to attend the hearing - as she was going to be doing a photo-shoot for her OnlyFans site. She said: 'The way I've been treated in the school and the education system has been very one-sided and unfair. ‌ 'They have applied Victorian values to behaviour that is socially acceptable in 2025 and written it up as though I am suffering from poor morality." The GTCS said that between 2022 and 2023 Buchan set up an OnlyFans page using the moniker 'Jessica Jackrabbitx' and used the profile to sell explicit photos and videos. ‌ It is said her bio on her page read, 'good teacher gone bad really bad', and made reference to posting 'big t**s and sexy tight body' photos 'every couple of days'. They also said she failed to ensure that her profile could not be accessed by any member of the public including those under 18 without them needing to log in or subscribe to OnlyFans. ‌ Gary Burton, solicitor and presenting officer for the GTCS said Ms Buchan had "used her profession as a selling tool", appeared to have justified her actions in newspaper interviews and that Bannerman High School was "now synonymous with having an OnlyFans teacher". The GTCS found that all allegations against Ms Buchan had been proven and decided that she should be struck off on Monday afternoon. Mr Burton recommended that it should be two years before she can reapply for teacher registration. Buchan had previously defended her decision to join OnlyFans. ‌ She told the Record last week: 'The reality is that I live my life according to proper values. I'm loyal and decent and I treat people properly. And I know I was a very good teacher because I really cared about the kids I taught. 'I'd have loved to have carried on with both but that was taken away from me. "It really just makes me feel sad, to give me a life ban and make out that I'm a bad teacher when opposite is true." She added: "People just need to get over it. What I do is not hurting anyone.'

Greg Monks' family hope to bring body home from Portugal 'this week'

Greg, 38, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, vanished in Albufeira almost two weeks ago on the first night of a stag do trip to the Algarve. The family of tragic Scots tourist Greg Monks are hoping to bring his body home this week after he plummeted to his death i n Portugal. Greg, 38, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, vanished in Albufeira almost two weeks ago while on the first night of a stag do trip to Albufeira in the Algarve. He was last seen in the early hours of May 28 on CCTV cameras, four miles away from the famous club strip where he partied with his mates hours before. ‌ A major search was launched by police, with his worried family family also flying out to Portugal in a desperate bid to find him. Sadly, after almost a full week of searching, Greg's body was discovered at the bottom of a ravine on Wednesday, June 5. ‌ Greg's mum, girlfriend Nicole and cousin face a heartbreaking journey back to Scotland without him with the repatriation process set to take several days. Devastated sister Jillian Monks, who stayed at home with her two young children during the search, has told how the family "have closure" as they plan to bring Greg home. In an update, Jillian told the Record: 'We're hoping to bring Greg home by the weekend. 'His mum, girlfriend and cousin are going to fly home tonight. They wanted to fly back with him but it has just not been possible. ‌ 'It has been the toughest time of our lives. We still can't believe what has happened. 'But we're glad we now have some sense of closure. I don't know if any of us could have coped with even another day searching for my brother. 'We couldn't eat, we couldn't sleep. It was absolute torture. ‌ 'To know Greg has been found is a slight relief. We can now bring him home and give him the send off he deserves.' Police found Greg's body near the quiet residential area of Cerro de Aguia, where he was last sighted. Sniffer dogs were sent to the area after a nearby homeowner sent fresh CCTV which showed Greg attempting to climb a fence before he suffered a fatal fall. ‌ Jillian says the family believe that Greg came to no harm. She said: "We don't believe that anything untoward happened. Everything the police have told us adds up. "We'll never truly know the full story. But we believe he just got lost and ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time. ‌ "It brings us some comfort knowing that Greg all had his belongings on him. He wasn't robbed, he still had his phone and his wallet, he had all his cards and cash." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! She said: "I think it just shows in places like Albufeira everyone needs to stick together and look after each other. His pals are absolutely devastated at what happened. "Before everyone left the hotel that night Greg made sure they all had a business card and a map from the hotel to help them find their way home. ‌ "That is the kind of person he was. He was just looking after everyone else. He was so considerate." Jillian has shared her family's anger over how they were informed of Greg's death with local press in Portugal sharing the news just as they arrived to a police station to meet with officers. ‌ Jillian said: "I knew Greg had been found before my mum and dad were told officially by police in Portugal. "They were waiting in a police station to meet with officers when their phones went with notifications to say Greg had been found. "It is shocking that this was allowed to happen." ‌ An online Go Fund Me was launched to initially search for Greg. Almost £34,000 has been raised which Jillian says will cover the cost of bringing him home and planning his funeral. She said: "The generosity and support has been incredible. We are grateful to everyone who helped look for Greg and those who have donated to bring him back home."
