Ducks Predicted to Trade for $81M Star to Fuel Joel Quenneville Era

Yahoo23-05-2025

The Anaheim Ducks have missed the playoffs for longer than anyone in the organization could care to admit. But the team is hopeful that the best is yet to come for the young squad after hiring veteran Joel Quenneville to take over as the head coach.
Quenneville gives the Ducks an experienced leader behind the bench, and he understands what it takes to win a Stanley Cup. But for Anaheim to become competitive again, the roster will need to be greatly improved.

As the offseason approaches for the Ducks, they could be major players on the trade market. Anaheim needs a "go-to" type of star to lead the team, and Artemi Panarin of the New York Rangers could make sense.
NHL writer Joe Yerdon of Bleacher Report linked the Ducks with Panarin amid trade rumors, and the pairing does make a lot of sense.
"If the Ducks are going to take a step next season and return to the playoffs, they absolutely need more goals and Panarin would provide an instant upgrade there, particularly in a contract year. There's also the part where the Ducks hired Panarin's first NHL head coach, Joel Quenneville, to take over behind the bench and that kind of connection is really hard to ignore. Anaheim has plenty of young players or less-expensive productive veterans to make a deal happen so... why not, right?"

Panarin playing for Quenneville could make a big difference here, and could see the Ducks become a prime landing spot if he is made available. The Rangers star scored 37 goals and 52 assists this season, and that type of production could drastically change everything for Anahrim.

It remains to be seen if the Rangers were willing to part with Panarin, but the Ducks have the tools to pull a deal off. Anaheim needs to make a splash, and there wouldn't be many bigger names than Panarin to make it happen.

Ducks Closing in on Blockbuster Trade for Rangers' 50-Goal Scorer: Report

Ducks Closing in on Blockbuster Trade for Rangers' 50-Goal Scorer: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After firing head coach Greg Cronin and replacing him with the polarizing Joel Quenneville, the Anaheim Ducks were reportedly looking to shake up their roster. Advertisement While the team has been linked to several big-name free agents in the last several weeks, it appears Anaheim has zeroed in on its big fish. According to a report from Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Ducks are in the final stages of pulling off a trade for New York Rangers star forward Chris Kreider. 'The New York Rangers are in advanced discussions with the Anaheim Ducks on a trade that would send career-long Blueshirt Chris Kreider to Orange County, multiple sources told Daily Faceoff,' Seravalli wrote. 'The talks, which sources stressed had not reached the finish line, were slated to continue on Wednesday. But there was mutual interest between the parties and the framework of a deal in place.' New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider (20) celebrates a goal with teammate Artemi Panarin (10) against the Florida Panthers during the third period at Amerant Bank Rassol-Imagn Images According to Seravalli, the Ducks would take on the rest of Kreider's full contract, which has two years and $13 million left on it. The 34-year-old forward, who signed a seven-year, $45.5 million deal with the Rangers back in 2020, does have a 15-team no-trade clause, and if Anaheim is on it, he's expected to waive it to facilitate the deal. Advertisement 'It was not immediately clear on Tuesday whether Anaheim was on Kreider's 15-team 'no-trade' list, but sources believed it would not be a stumbling block either way as Kreider was thought to have interest in playing for new Ducks coach Joel Quenneville, where he'd also be reunited with Ryan Strome and former Rangers captain Jacob Trouba,' Seravalli continued. Though he's coming off a disappointing 22-goal, 30-point season in 2024, Kreider is just three seasons removed from his breakout year in 2021 in which he scored 52 goals and 77 points — both career highs. He's scored 20 or more goals in seven straight seasons, and he had three straight seasons of 30 or more goals entering last year. Seravalli also mentioned 2023 second-round pick Carey Terrance, a New York native, as the return for the Rangers. Advertisement Anaheim's No. 10-ranked prospect, according to The Athletic, Terrenace, 20, logged 20 goals and 39 points in 45 games as captain of the Erie Otters in the OHL this season. A's outfielder Denzel Clarke makes great catch to rob a home run vs. Angels

It's only June and we might have the catch of the year already after Athletics outfielder Denzel Clarke pulled off an incredible home run robbery. The Athletics are in Anaheim playing the Los Angeles Angels, and in the bottom of the first inning of Monday's contest, Nolan Schanuel took Grant Holman's splitter deep to center field. It looked like it was going to go over the wall to give the Angels an early 1-0 lead. Advertisement Instead, Clarke scaled the wall, reached over and caught the ball in one of the best catches one could make. Clarke got so high he almost went over the wall, but he was hyped as he landed back in the field of play. Mostly everyone, especially Holman, in the stadium couldn't believe what they saw. It was an impressive catch for a ball that went 398 feet to center field. Monday was just Clarke's 16th game in the big leagues after he was called up in May. Taken in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Cal State Northridge, Clarke entered the night with a .224 batting average with one home run and three RBI, but he already has an all-time highlight play in his career. Advertisement It may just be something Clarke does as this isn't the first time he's robbed a homer. On May 30 against the Toronto Blue Jays, Clarke robbed Alejandro Kirk from a home run as he scaled the wall to catch the ball back in his home country. The catch against the Angels come three days after he had another incredible snag against the Baltimore Orioles, as he turned on the jets and hauled in the ball before hitting the wall to steal a hit away from Jorge Mateo.
