Ja Morant ignores NBA's gun gesture warning — and it costs Grizzlies star $75,000
Ja Morant's finger-gun celebrations are going to cost him.
The NBA announced Friday it's fining the Grizzlies star $75,000 for using the gun gesture on the court this week, even after the league issued him a warning.

The five-figure hit stemmed from Morant 'twice making an inappropriate gesture' in the Grizzlies' 110-108 victory over the Heat.
Ja Morant did the gun celebration again.
'Morant was previously warned by the league office that this gesture could be interpreted in a negative light,' the release read.
Morant, who has a history with guns, first made the gesture toward the Warriors' bench Tuesday at the conclusion of Memphis' loss to Golden State.
The league announced the following day that it was investigating the incident.

Then on Thursday, Morant followed up with similar gun celebrations during the Grizzlies' win over the Heat, when he cashed a game-winning buzzer-beater.

'I'm kind of used to it,' Morant said after Thursday's win about being a 'villain.'
'I was pretty much a villain for two years now. Every little thing, if somebody can say something negative about me, it's going to be out there. So, yeah. I don't care no more.'

Morant also mentioned Thursday he was 'well aware' of gestures making recent headlines.
Morant's gun history goes back multiple seasons.
He was suspended for eight games in 2023 for brandishing a gun on Instagram Live while at a strip club outside Denver.
History repeated itself two months later in a separate video, and Morant received a 25-game suspension.

Charles Barkley slams Knicks amid team's search for next head coach
The New York Knicks' plan to hire a successor to Tom Thibodeau does not appear to be going so well at the start of the NBA offseason. The team was rumored to be interested in former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jordan Ott before he took the Phoenix Suns' head-coaching job and the Cavaliers' associate head coach Johnnie Bryant, who the Knicks have yet to pull the trigger on bringing in. ESPN reported over the last few days the Knicks have tried to reach out to several teams' current head coaches in an attempt to lure them via trade. Among those reportedly on the list were the Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd, Minnesota Timberwolves' Chris Finch, Houston Rockets' Ime Udoka and Atlanta Hawks' Quin Snyder. All to no avail. Charles Barkley took a swipe at the Knicks' early offseaon woes. "The Knicks gotta be the stupidest damn people in the world," Barkley said on NBA TV before Game 3 of the NBA Finals. "You don't fire no good coach like that and don't have a plan. I mean, Thibs did a hell of a job, obviously something's going on there. You don't have a plan? And now three coaches have turned you down. You've gotta have a plan, man. And they don't have a plan. I don't know what the hell they're going to do." The Knicks fired Thibodeau after the team reached its farthest spot in the postseason since 2000. New York was 51-31 and has a decent team built around Jalen Brunson.
