2nd list: BA, BCom cutoffs fall below 90% in leading colleges
Mumbai: The demand for traditional courses such as BA and BCom in the city's top- colleges has taken a hit this year, with high scorers now having a wider range of professional courses to choose from.
In the recent past, top colleges would close admissions to these courses at cutoffs in the 90% range, but many witnessed a drop to the 80% range in the second merit list announced on Saturday. FYBSc cutoffs across colleges plunged by 10-15%, which has many principals worried. Some city colleges are still receiving admission inquiries from students, as the early start to the admission process this year seems to have caused some to miss the application deadline, and could possibly have affected the cutoffs too.
Take, for instance, the FYBA cutoff at Jai Hind College — which, in the past, would barely budge after the first list — but has now dropped by 5.17%, from 92.17% to 87% in the second. The cutoff for BCom, too, dropped at the college compared to the previous list. Ramnarain Ruia College closed the second list for FYBA at 88%—a drop of 2% from the first list. At St Xavier's College, the cutoff, though, dipped marginally for FYBA (courses other than psychology and English), it also did not breach the 90% mark.

Psychology and English group at Xavier's and other leading colleges, though, stayed above 90%. FYBSc cutoffs in most colleges plunged to even 50s, and with no takers, many are likely to allow walk-in admissions for the course.
On the contrary, the cutoffs in self-financed courses, mainly the allied BCom courses, have seen only a marginal drop of 1-2%, and continued to remain out of reach for many 90%+ scorers. While HR and KC Colleges, which come under the HSNC University, already announced their list on Friday, N M and Mithibai Colleges, from the SVKM group, have decided to release their second list on Monday.
Ruia College principal Anushree Lokur said with the array of new professional courses and also newer private universities, traditional courses have taken a hit. "Many are coming to us with the usual problem—they have either filled the university form or the college form, many still believe that admissions are centralised like is the process in FYJC," said Lokur. R A Podar College principal Vinita Pimpale said many are coming with inquiries as they have missed applicaton deadlines.
St Xavier's College principal, Rajendra Shinde, said they usually never had second lists for FYBA, but of late, students opt for other colleges if they do not get their subject combinations, which may have led to a marginal drop in the cutoffs. On poor interest in pure sciences, Vijay Dabholkar, principal, Jai Hind College, said students have to spend more time for science lectures and practicals unlike other courses.

MCC collects record property tax in 1st 2 months of financial year
Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) collected an impressive Rs 150 crore plus in property tax within the first two months of the 2025–26 financial year. The collection was boosted by a 5% rebate offered to property owners. This amount represents over 63.3% of the annual target of Rs 237 crore set for the current fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The rebate of 5% is extended till June 30. The city has approximately 2.25 lakh registered properties, of which 1.95 lakh are revenue-generating. Spread across nine zones and 65 wards, these properties form the primary base for property tax collection, which remains MCC's single largest source of revenue alongside the water cess. In the past two fiscal years, MCC collected Rs 183.82 crore against a target of Rs 214.55 crore in 2023–24, and Rs 210.03 crore against a target of Rs 251.41 crore in 2024–25. This year, with the current momentum, MCC is on track to potentially exceed its target. Speaking to TOI, Shaikh Tanveer Asif, commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation, said: "It's a record collection in just two months." The success is a result of coordinated efforts across all nine zones. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Crossing Rs 150 crore so early will significantly enhance our ability to provide improved civic amenities to Mysuru's citizens, he said. He also urged remaining property owners to take advantage of the 5% rebate, which remains available until the end of the month. "If you don't pay property tax, there is no way out. Corporation will collect tax, hence the people should not delay in paying property tax. They should make use of the five percent rebate and pay the tax at the earliest. The revenue from property tax plays a crucial role in taking up the projects within the corporation limits," the commissioner added. The MCC continues to prioritise efficient tax collection as the backbone of its financial planning and civic development strategy. Trump vs Musk: DOGE staff fear fallout; public feud sparks anxiety over political targeting- report
Following the public spat between US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk , staff members at the Musk-established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are reportedly experiencing increasing concerns about their professional future and potential targeting by the administration Current DOGE personnel embedded within federal agencies are concerned that the public dispute between Trump and Musk might expose them to political consequences and affect their career opportunities, multiple sources with knowledge of internal discussions told ABC News. Personnel fear their DOGE connection could make them vulnerable if tensions escalate and Trump initiates an investigation into the government-reduction programme that Musk headed until his recent departure, the sources indicated. There are additional concerns that Trump's potential distancing from DOGE could negatively impact their professional standing. Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX, developed a close relationship with Trump during the past year while supporting his re-election campaign before establishing DOGE to support Trump's federal government reduction objectives. DOGE, as a quasi-governmental body, has sparked debates due to its agency closures and access to sensitive information. The relationship between the president and the world's wealthiest individual deteriorated into social media confrontation on Thursday, with Musk criticising Trump for "ingratitude" regarding the 2024 election, whilst Trump threatened to "terminate Elon's governmental subsidies and contracts." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The public clash between Trump andMusk has intensified, following Musk's disapproval of a significant domestic policy initiative by Trump. The conflict between the two wealthy individuals heightened on Thursday as they traded harsh words on their respective social media platforms, indicating the end of their previous alliance. Trump initiated the exchange by expressing disappointment over Musk's criticism of his administration's primary tax and spending legislation, what he labelled as his 'one big, beautiful bill'. In response, Musk claimed credit for Trump's electoral success, stating: "Without me, Trump would have lost the election". The deterioration in their relationship occurred after Musk's sustained opposition to Trump's significant spending legislation, which received approval from the US House and awaits Senate consideration. Following his departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) after 129 days of service, Musk utilised X to denounce the bill as a "disgusting abomination", adding: "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong." Musk expressed concerns about the legislation's impact on US national debt levels and urged his followers to contact their representatives to voice opposition to the spending proposal. During this disagreement, War Room presenter and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who has historically criticised Musk, urged the president to investigate the billionaire following Thursday's incident. "This is a national security issue," Bannon stated on his programme Thursday. "We're dealing with a very unstable individual out saying dangerous things about the president of the United States. He must be investigated . .. and all government contracts should be suspended." Several key Musk associates who served as special government employees, including Steve Davis, the DOGE operational lead, left with Musk . However, numerous DOGE staff remain integrated across federal agencies, including the Office of Personnel Management, Veterans Affairs, Treasury, IRS, and Social Security Administration, the ABC News sources confirmed. Musk's exit represented a significant shift for DOGE's daily operations, as officials like Davis had managed DOGE activities across federal government for months. Following Musk's departure, DOGE staff will maintain their reporting structure to respective agency leadership, the sources indicated. The White House recently stated that "DOGE leaders are each and every member of the president's cabinet and the president himself." Sources further informed ABC News that some current DOGE federal government staff have begun seeking alternative employment. Despite concerns about future career prospects, several technology companies have shown interest in recruiting DOGE alumni, with Coinbase creating a specific hiring portal for former DOGE staff. Meanwhile, regarding potential DOGE investigations, a White House adviser indicated the president's focus remains on his signature spending legislation, the "Big Beautiful Bill." Despite the public disagreement, Trump has not publicly criticised DOGE and previously praised the initiative. During a recent Oval Office press event, Trump commended Musk's transformation of Washington's operational methods and described DOGE as a significant government reform programme. Upon leaving the Trump administration, Musk minimised DOGE's dependence on his leadership, stating, "DOGE is a way of life, like Buddhism. You wouldn't ask the question, 'Who would lead Buddhism?'"

Muradpur's Solar-Powered Lift Irrigation Scheme Promises Lifeline to Farmers
Nagpur: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday inaugurated the Muradpur lift irrigation scheme powered by floating solar panels, calling it a 'boon for farmers' that will not only improve agriculture but also uplift rural livelihoods in the region. The scheme, implemented at the Vadgaon reservoir on the Vena River in Umred taluka, aims to provide year-round water supply to over 465 acres of farmland using solar energy. Floating solar panels installed in the Rama Dam reservoir will generate enough electricity to power the entire irrigation system, drastically cutting energy costs and enhancing sustainability. Speaking at the inauguration, Gadkari said, "Water is the most critical need for our farmers. Regular supply will not only help in agriculture but also resolve many village-level problems. This solar-powered lift irrigation scheme will enable farmers to take up two to three crops annually and increase their income." The project is particularly significant for the local population, 53% of whom belong to tribal communities. Gadkari noted the region's social, educational, and economic backwardness, stating that the govt is working with the spirit of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay's Antyodaya philosophy to uplift the last person in society. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The event was attended by MP Shyamkumar Barve, MLA Sanjay Meshram, former MLA Sudhir Parwe, local Sarpanch Durga Alam, Deputy Sarpanch Gajanan Gadge, and other dignitaries. Highlighting the scheme's technical details, officials explained that water from the Vadgaon dam is lifted using pumps and transported through MS pipelines to two delivery chambers. From there, 20 HP pumps distribute water to farmlands through drip irrigation. Floating solar panels with a 270 KVA capacity are expected to generate 1,080 units of electricity daily, sufficient to operate all project-related electrical systems without cost. Gadkari urged farmers to form Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) to maximise the benefits of the scheme. "With modern practices like drone-based spraying and shared machinery, farmers can save Rs 5,000–Rs 6,000 per acre. Technology will boost both yield and profitability," he said. He also announced plans to build a 'Smart Village' nearby, spread over 10 acres with an investment of Rs 100 crore. The project will include 1,000 homes (450 sqft each), concrete roads, and assured lifelong water and electricity, along with a playground and garden. "Around 400 people have already registered for homes," he informed. With sustainable energy, efficient water management, and community-focused development, the Muradpur lift irrigation scheme is expected to set a benchmark in rural transformation through green technology.
