Saudi-Korean smart agriculture project launched in Riyadh

RIYADH — Saudi Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Mansour Al Mushaiti and South Korea's Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Park Beom-su, laid the foundation jointly for a smart agriculture complex project in Riyadh on Monday. The initiative aims to enhance agricultural production, improve resource efficiency, and strengthen cooperation in smart farming.
Al Mushaiti stated that the project represents a new turning point in the journey of modern agriculture. It is the result of integrated and collaborative efforts to foster innovation in the agricultural sector, contributing to food security and sustainable development in the Middle East.
Al Mushaiti said the joint Saudi-Korean project reflects Korea's remarkable technological advancements in agriculture. It combines the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the Internet of Things, and vertical farming to effectively and innovatively address contemporary agricultural challenges. The project is expected to increase productivity and improve crop quality, positively impacting the lives of both farmers and consumers.
The project, which covers a total area of 4,000 square meters, is located at the National Agricultural and Animal Resources Research Center. It houses a vertical farm for growing leafy greens, strawberries, and mushrooms that utilizes advanced container farming. It also includes a greenhouse equipped with the latest Korean agricultural technologies, which contribute to reducing water consumption, optimizing fertilizer use, and increasing production.
The project relies on AI systems to regulate water quantities, collect data, and analyze it to provide recommendations for suitable crops in vertical farming systems. Additionally, it features a mobile farming system that increases production by more than double compared to traditional greenhouses. AI-powered agricultural robots are also utilized for data collection and analysis, facilitating and expediting agricultural service and harvesting processes

Upon rising, the moon displayed a golden-pink hue due to atmospheric effects, earning it the name "Strawberry Moon," a term used in some cultures to signify the last full moon of spring. Northern Borders Region has become a favored location for observing astronomical phenomena, thanks to its expansive horizons and minimal light pollution, which enhances visibility of the night sky.

Saudi Arabia, Netherlands Sign Agreements in Environmental, Agricultural Fields
Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have signed multiple agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of environment, water, and agriculture. These agreements, involving both public and private sector entities from both countries, include investments totaling more than SAR 428 million. The funds will be directed toward developing and localizing advanced technologies in these critical sectors. The signings took place during the visit of Saudi Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Mansour bin Hilal Al Mushaiti, to the Netherlands from June 10 to 12. A total of 27 agreements and MoUs were formalized in the presence of senior ministry officials and representatives from Saudi and Dutch organizations. This visit aligns with the Ministry's broader strategy to elevate the global competitiveness of Saudi Arabia's agricultural sector, promote the production and export of local agricultural goods, enhance trade relations with the Netherlands, and deepen international cooperation. These efforts support the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands have signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between entities from the environment, water and agriculture sectors. The deals include investments exceeding SAR428 million to develop and localize advanced technologies in environmental, water and agricultural fields. During his June 10–12 visit to the Netherlands, Saudi Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Mansour bin Hilal Al Mushaiti oversaw the signing of 27 agreements and MoUs, in the presence of senior officials from the ministry and representatives from both the public and private sectors. The visit comes as part of the ministry's strategy to enhance the global competitiveness of Saudi Arabia's agricultural sector, expand the production and export of local agricultural products, boost trade with the Netherlands and strengthen international partnerships in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
