Man found unresponsive inside of the DeKalb County Jail cell dies

An inmate has died inside of the DeKalb County Jail, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says.
On Wednesday, deputies inside of the jail discovered a medical emergency inside one of the housing units.

Officials say they found 35-year-old Regis Darnell Jackson unresponsive inside his cell.
Jackson received medical attention on site at the jail.

He was taken to Emory Decatur Hospital for treatment, but was later declared dead by medical personnel. Jackson's cause of death is under investigation.
Jackson lived in Macon, but was in the custody of the DeKalb County Jail since August 2022 on various felony charges.

On Sunday, June 1, Corporal Amy Davis was on patrol in Rockmart when she was flagged down by a concerned person. That person directed her to a man slumped over inside a vehicle in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. Corporal Davis found the man, who was unconscious. Once he received the Narcan, he briefly began to come to, but was still unresponsive. Corporal Davis gave him a second dose of Narcan, and he became responsive and began speaking with responders. Moats awarded Davis the Life Saver Award on Monday. A chase ended when a driver exited Interstate 675 and hit a guardrail in last month. The incident happened on May 29 on the ramp from I-675 to Indian Ripple Road. Man dies after being shot during argument while driving in Paulding County

Paulding County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting. On Monday, at approximately 2:25 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a call reporting a shooting near the intersection of Ridge Road and Cohran Store Road. Deputies said the victim called 911 himself and told dispatchers that he got into a fight with a man driving a black SUV and was shot by the man. After he was shot, the victim drove to the Paulding County Fire Station 5 on Ridge Road in Douglasville for help. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] He was taken to WellStar Paulding Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Deputies have not identified the victim. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office tip line at 770-443-3047.
