Quartet of winning Australians in qualifying boost Wimbledon main draw contingent to 17
The biggest Australian contingent in 30 years will contest Wimbledon after four more players came through qualifying to earn spots in the main draw, taking the total to 17.
Priscilla Hon, Talia Gibson, lex Bolt and James McCabe all booked their spots, Hon and Gibson surviving match points, to join the mass of Australians in the field.
But 16-year-old rising star Emerson Jones failed at the final challenge as she sought to become the youngest Australian player since Ash Barty to make the singles main draw.
Queenslander Hon was down 6-5, and then 0-40, in her clash with Canada's Victoria Mboko before mounting a stunning comeback to win. .
'Honestly, right now I'm pretty lost for words, especially when I didn't think I was going to win the match,' Hon explained.
'I definitely feel like I've gotten better in these situations and obviously played quite a few now and I've got the experience.'

Hon saved five match points in her victory.
'Apparently, I was down five match points, but I only remember three of them. I was just trying to think point by point and somehow, I got the win,' she said.
'I served really well in that game (at 6-5) to come back, and that's what got me through.'
Gibson also saved a match point at 5-3 in the third set before winning the next four games to progress to her first Wimbledon main draw.
'I'm still a little bit in shock but just incredibly, incredibly happy with my performance today and just to get through qualifying for the first time in a slam is a good feeling,' she said.
'I was really trying to visualise and put myself in the position to feel like this is something I could do this year. I'm lost for words and just incredibly happy that I could actually do it.'

McCabe qualified for the Wimbledon main draw on his first try by taking down the No.5 seed Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera in four sets
'Before these last two weeks, I think I'd lost 11 tiebreaks in a row – so now it's going the right direction and I'm just glad it's coming together now,' McCabe said.
'It was just an absolute unreal experience.'
As the Aussies triumphed at Wimbledon, 19-year-old Maya Joint also reached the semi-finals of the Eastbourne event with a straight-sets quarter-final win over Russian Anna Blinkova.
It's Joint's third semi of her rookie season, all on different surfaces and now including grass ahead of Wimbledon beginning next week.

A club icon wants major change at Carlton. Hall of Fame forward Brendan Fevola has called for 'new people' at Princes Park after another horror loss on Thursday night. The Blues' faithful showed their angst after the 50-point loss to Port Adelaide, vandalising club headquarters in protest of another failed campaign. Fevola, much like the vandals, took aim at the board more so than under-siege coach Michael Voss. If you're playing for a coach, you don't put up what you put up in that first half. 'They're putting up nothing, they didn't kick a goal for the whole first half. 'They don't look like they've got a system; but they do have a system, they train and they train hard. They're just not performing.' Carlton was second on the ladder by half a game at round 19 last year but have mustered just seven wins since. Fevola said the Blues' win return had not matched the strength of their list. 'They have the players; if Vossy and the assistants were coaching West Coast, you'd go … 'Well, they just don't have the cattle, they're rebuilding',' Fevola said. 'Carlton were premiership favourites at the start of the year (and) they're not even going to play finals, their season is over. 'I don't know what's wrong with Patrick Cripps, he looked sore last night. I would just put them all on ice and say you're done, get your body right for next year.' Fevola also took aim at out-of-contract big man Tom De Koning, who has been heavily linked to St Kilda on the AFL's most lucrative deal. Fevola said the Blues must demand an answer from De Koning and sideline him if he is not committed to staying. 'The problem is they have Tom De Koning, who is in our top three players. He's been offered $12m to go to St Kilda and Carlton can't match that,' he said. 'If he's going, don't play him; say to him that he needs to make a decision now and if he can't answer that, say you're in the twos – get some young kid to play in the ruck. 'This has been going on all year and it's what everyone talks about; if he doesn't want to stay, just be honest.'

Matahga aiming to replicate success of Derby winners in Oaklands Plate at Morphettville Parks
The last two winners of the Oaklands Plate have since achieved Group 1 glory, and Saturday's race favourite, Matahga, is out to prove he's on that trajectory. The impressive colt won the Racing Rewards 2YO Plate (1200m) at Murray Bridge last start, and is out to nail consecutive Oaklands Plate's for trainer Phillip Stokes, who saddled up last year's winner, Femminile. Femminile pulled off a brilliant win in May's $1m SA Derby (2500m), while staying filly Coco Sun, also pulled off a Oaklands Plate-Derby double in 2023-24. Matahga, a son of Tivaci, is only two starts into his career, but is giving the indication that he fits a similar mould. 'To be honest, I think he's shown more than Femminile, obviously Femminile improved a heap, so he's going to have to do the same,' assistant trainer Tommy Stokes said. 'He'll look at a similar path, he's got stayer written all over him, he settles so well in his trackwork and his races, he's going to eat up a bigger trip for sure.'
