RCB receive a timely boost as Josh Hazlewood rejoins the squad ahead of their last league match against LSG
With just one league game left in their season before the all-important playoffs, Royal Challengers Bengaluru received a timely boost in the form of a returning Josh Hazlewood, as the fit-again Australian pacer rejoined the squad, the franchise confirmed. Hazlewood hadn't played RCB's last match before the league's suspension, as he was nursing a shoulder niggle, then returned home when the league was paused.
The franchise's social media handle teased Hazlewood's return late night on Sunday with pictures of an Australia kitbag with a caption that read: 'Lost and found.'

Hazlewood has been by some distance RCB's most potent weapon this season, having taken 18 wickets in the 10 matches he has played, at an average of 17.27 and a strike rate of 12.27, meaning he took a wicket roughly every two overs he has bowled – the best in that metric among the top 10-wicket takers of the season.
According to an earlier ESPNCricinfo report, Hazlewood – along with Punjab Kings' wicketkeeper Josh Inglis – will be involved in the playoffs from those in the Aussie Test squad for the World Test Championship Final against South Africa starting on June 11.
'With Josh, he's our only player not here at the moment. He's recovering from his shoulder niggle that he had. He's doing that with Cricket Australia. Our medical team and their medical teams have been liaising on what that detail looks like and he's just taking that day by day and he's trying to improve his shot,' Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket, RCB had said ahead of the match against KKR that was eventually washed out on May 16 on the resumption day.
RCB's chances of finishing in the top two took a hit in their last match. Chasing 232 against an already-eliminated SRH, opening duo of Phil Salt (62) and Virat Kohli (43) provided RCB a blistering start but rest of the batting faltered as RCB were bundled out for 189 in 19.5 overs. Salt, as did stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma after the match, saw a silver lining in their defeat, saying they rather have a loss like that in the league stage than in the IPL play-offs.
'The other way of looking at it is, you don't mind having this game not in the playoffs. So, yeah, you can take it as a disappointment or you can take it for what it is,' he said at the post-match press conference. 'We're qualified, we've lost a game. No one likes to lose games of cricket. I'm hating the fact we've lost, as will everybody else in an RCB shirt. You'd rather have that now than you would in an eliminator, let's say. So, we're going to get an opportunity to pick the bones out of it and have a look at things we did well and things we didn't do so well and come back.'

RCB face another eliminated side in LSG in the final league match of the season, where they'd know the exact equation requried of them to make it to the top-two. But defeats for PBKS and GT have kept RCB very much in the hunt. Rajat Patidar's side will go through with a big enough win given PBKS play their last match before RCB.

'It's played over a longer period of time and you've just got to win big moments in the game as well. Yes, there will be that tag [chokers] that gets thrown our way until we win a trophy,' he said. 'You're not going to get rid of the tag. Is it deserving on these youngsters coming through? No, it's almost like they're carrying the burden of what happened in previous years, which is always going to be tough on them, but they're the ones in control of their futures at the moment,' he added. For Boucher, South Africa youngsters Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs are two youngsters who could be the key to their success in the pulsating contest that kicks off on Wednesday. 'Ryan Rickelton has been playing nicely for Mumbai Indians (MI) and he was actually on the tour that we went to England [in 2022] as well. He's actually played quite a few games in England as well, so he'll know the conditions,' Boucher said. 'And Tristan Stubbs has come back and played a lot of domestic cricket and basically forced his way into the Test side because of the runs that he's got. On paper, Australia will probably feel that they've got a better batting line-up than what we have, but have we got the attitude to go out there and in a one-off game, just leave it all out there? Absolutely,' he added. Karnataka CM increases compensation for Bengaluru stampede victims' families to Rs 25 lakh each
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 7 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede in Bengaluru to Rs 25 lakh each. Earlier, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi demanded that CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar should 'resign right now' in connection with the June 4 stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. Joshi told reporters, 'The state government should bear moral responsibility. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar should not continue on his position even for a moment. CM and Deputy CM should resign right now.' Earlier, top senior officials of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam, tendered their resignations, taking 'moral responsibility' for the stampede that took place near M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team's felicitation after winning their Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a tight final on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a Bengaluru Sessions Court on Friday remanded four individuals, including senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the stampede. They were arrested in a joint operation by the Cubbon Park police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). Earlier in the day, the Karnataka High Court granted interim relief to the office bearers of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who had approached the court seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against them in connection with the an interim order, the court directed the state police not to take any coercive action against them until further orders. The High Court adjourned the case to June 9. KSCA President Raghu Ram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, Treasurer ES Jairam, and other KSCA office bearers moved the High Court seeking to quash the FIR. Nikhil Sosale also approached the High Court to challenge his arrest. He claimed that he was arrested without any materials and even before the police had conducted a preliminary enquiry. He has thus sought to declare his arrest as illegal. On Thursday, the Bengaluru police registered an FIR against the RCB franchise, DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an event management company, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for culpable homicide, illegal assembly, and other serious charges. A day after the stampede , the Karnataka police suspended multiple IPS officers, including the Bengaluru city police Commissioner, B Dayananda. Apart from Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar HT, Assistant Commissioner of Police Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were also suspended with immediate effect. Bengaluru stampede: KSCA Secretary, Treasurer resign after emergency meeting
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 7 (ANI): Two top Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials -- secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam -- resigned from their posts during an emergency managing committee meeting held on Saturday, accepting 'moral responsibility' for stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The incident occurred during celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden IPL title win and claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. KSCA President Raghuram Bhat confirmed the development, saying that the resignations were discussed and accepted during an emergency meeting on Saturday. 'I had called an emergency managing committee meeting. Two of our members -- the secretary and treasurer -- have resigned on moral grounds. The committee has accepted their resignations. So far, nothing has come in. When the inquiry takes place, we have already told the government and the High Court that we will never shy away from anything that is there. We are ready to cooperate with the investigation,' Bhat told reporters. Speaking to ANI later, the KSCA said, 'The two resignation letters have been accepted by the managing committee. Today, it was important to accept the resignations as it has already come into the public domain.' The stampede occurred during the celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win on Wednesday, June 4. The incident sparked widespread concern regarding crowd management and safety arrangements at major public events. The stampede left 11 people dead and several others injured. Communicating to KSCA on Friday night, both Shankar and Jairam wrote as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, 'Due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days, and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as secretary and treasurer of the KSCA.' The Bengaluru Police also filed a first information report (FIR) against the popular IPL franchise on Thursday, as per ESPNCricinfo. The police have said that RCB was not given permission to conduct the event at the stadium. RCB has been listed as the first accused in the FIR, along with DNA Entertainment, the franchise's event partners, and the KSCA, which is in control of the stadium. On Friday, the cops also confirmed the arrest of RCB's marketing and revenue head Nikhil Sosale, while acting on directives of newly appointed police commissioner SK Singh, who took over after his predecessor was removed by the chief minister Siddaramaiah after the incident. Later that day, a writ petition was filed by KSCA, arguing that the FIR against them was a move made under pressure of state government by the police and hence a 'knee-jerk' reaction. KSCA said that the stampede was caused due to an unexpected crowd surge and no intent or motive could be attributed to the petitioners. They also stressed that the crowd management was a responsibility which lied with the franchise's management, event organisers and the police. The council defending the state's cricket governing body also raised concerns about Sosale's arrest, claiming that it indicated a targeted approach. Sosale also approached the Karnataka High Court and challenged his arrest, as per Bar and Bench, an Indian legal news platform. RCB is yet to issue an official statement on Sosale's arrest, though on Thursday, they announced compensation worth Rs 10 lakh for the family of each deceased and also pledged to cover the medical expenses of those who sustained injuries.
