South Africa secured their maiden World Test Championship (WTC) title with a five-wicket win over Australia at Lord's, the second-highest successful fourth-innings chase in WTC history.

Australia dominated the early stages of the match with strong batting and disciplined bowling. However, South Africa reversed the momentum on the final day, powered by a standout 136-run innings from Aiden Markram.
Skipper Temba Bavuma added a steady 66, while Kyle Verreynne also made a key contribution. Kagiso Rabada delivered a match-winning performance with the ball, taking nine wickets across both innings.
'It's been a special couple of days. At some point, it felt like we were back in South Africa, with all the support in the stands," Bavuma said.
Australia's Pat Cummins led the attack in South Africa's second innings, claiming six wickets to defend the total. Despite his efforts, the Proteas held firm to complete the chase.

Player of the Match Aiden Markram said, 'Lord's is the place every Test cricketer wants to play. The play in a Final here is incredibly special, and then, with all the members here, but also plenty of South African fans have made the trip and plenty at home as well that have supported us through, it was one of the most special days.'
The victory marks South Africa's first ICC trophy since 1998, ending a decades-long title drought on the international stage. The champions took home $3.6 million in prize money, while runners-up Australia walked away with $ 2.16 million.
Australia will next tour the West Indies starting June 25, while South Africa will begin a two-Test series against Zimbabwe on June 28, 2025.
