Queen to appear in favourite author's new crime thriller about killer in Palace

Leader Live3 days ago

Peter James's latest Detective Superintendent Roy Grace thriller centres on a race to stop a killer at Buckingham Palace.
Camilla is depicted travelling aboard the Royal Train when disaster strikes and it derails, and a trusted aide is shot by a sniper, leading Grace to head to the Palace to investigate, the Daily Mail revealed.
The Queen is understood to have been aware of the book.
James – one of Camilla's favourite authors – is said to have carried out extensive research about the famous royal residence.
In the publicity for the novel, publisher Pan Macmillan describes James as the 'Creator of Her Majesty Queen Camilla's favourite fictional detective'.
It says of the plot: 'A tragic accident or a planned attack?… Despite all the evidence, Roy Grace is not convinced the Queen was the intended target… Failure at this level is not an option. But time is running out before a killer in the Palace will strike again.'
The also King features in The Hawk Is Dead: A Killer In The Palace, which is due out in October.
The Queen, a voracious reader and passionate supporter of a number of literary charities, previously recommended James's blockbusters as part her Reading Room book club.
In 2021, she visited the set of Grace – ITV's television adaptation of James's books which stars John Simm as the troubled but methodical detective – and joked about asking for a cameo role.
She told James: 'I love your books. I've read them all, cover to cover.'

I could be over there, I could be doing this, it is fantastic." James Martin's Saturday Morning is available to watch on ITVX.

During Friday (June 6th) night's episode of James Whale Unleashed, the two presenters spoke to a guest who had been through cancer with her late husband. James told her: "Until very recently, everything was quite normal for me, everything was fine, and then you do get to a stage like I am now, with things get to be very very difficult." He then added: "To anybody else who is in the final stages of cancer, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you're going through, I do know, I look basically okay, I get told you look alright and I look okay, it's all make-up." James' comments were shared on X, formerly Twitter, where the star was inundated with support. One user penned: "My heart goes out to you Mr Whale. You are a fighter." A second person gushed: "I'm also stage 4 kidney cancer but you are a real inspiration. I seriously can't believe how much better you look compared to 2 weeks ago!" The post featured beaming smiles, with James surrounded by his wife Nadine Lamont-Brown, 59, TV producer Simon Withington, 48, and Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins, 72. Posing for a photo at boutique Kent hotel, Who'd A Thought It, James wore aviator sunglasses and a white shirt for his big day. Trump crushes 'peace talk' hopes with Musk as he insists Elon has 'lost his mind' and 'vows to get rid of his Tesla' Lizzie also shared some playful snaps from the hotel's grounds, posing with a saxophone alongside Charlie. James appeared in high spirits in a video posted by Lizzie too. He cheekily asked her: 'Who are you? Lizzie, I didn't recognise you with so many clothes on.' Speaking candidly on camera, James said: 'I'm feeling okay. As people know, I'm not about to die - well, you never know, do you? "I've had all my treatment. I don't want anybody feeling sorry for me, I'm just giving you the lowdown. "I think if I make it to Christmas, I'll be exceptionally lucky. "Sometimes I think it might be easier to just have a heart attack and go.' As his wife joined him, Lizzie added: 'People think of James as Mr Nasty, but he's a little pussycat underneath.' Nadine agreed: 'No one's ever been nicer to me than James.' James also revealed his long-running programme could be coming to an end within weeks, as he reaches the final stage of his battle. 6 Lizzie Cundy made sure James enjoyed his 74th birthday Credit: Instagram/@jameswhaleradio

James Martin interrupts Saturday Morning as show cut short

James Martin was on hand to present another instalment of his cooking show on ITV on Saturday morning, but the chef was forced to address a schedule change James Martin dropped a surprising career revelation on James Martin's Saturday Morning. While whisking away from the studio in Italy, James tantalised viewers with retirement talk, after tasting a local chef's dish, "Can I just say if your two sons don't want to do this, you call me." ‌ Chuckling, he mused over his future, "I might retire here. I could be over there, I could be doing this, it is fantastic." ‌ The culinary show host then steered the show into a candid interlude to announce a programming change. Before segueing to commercials, he informed fans the episode was being cut short due to other timetabled broadcasts, telling them, "Because of the Derby on ITV1 this afternoon, it is a shorter episode than usual today. But we still have time for one more dish," reports Devon Live. Since 2017, James has been helming his gastronomic adventure on screen and earlier delved into an off-camera venture. In conversation with Cotswold Life, he reflected upon his Live Tour 2025. "Every show is special. When I look at the list of places we'll be going to this year, they are serious venues - Birmingham Symphony Hall, Newcastle O2, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester," he narrated. James divulged further intrigue about his live performances, contrasting them with his TV appearances, "People think the live shows are going to be like my Saturday Morning show, but it's really not, it's fast-paced, fun comedy, made by a great team, and it is really cool." ‌ Opening up about a standout moment in his career, he reminisced: "Walking out on that stage, seeing my mum and dad in the audience was magical. They knew how much I had worked and for how long to get there." In another segment of today's programme, James chatted with Harry Redknapp about Soccer Aid, and welcomed chefs Daniel Clifford and Sally Abé into the kitchen. Sally whipped up some delightful ricotta dumplings, while Daniel impressed James with his delectable smoked butternut sorbet. James Martin's Saturday Morning is available to watch on ITVX.
