POS Malaysia Continues Negative Trend With Q1 Losses Swelling To RM41 Million

BusinessToday21-05-2025

POS Malaysia Berhad reported a significant increase in its first-quarter losses for the period ended 31 March 2025, with losses swelling to RM41 million, more than double the RM19 million loss recorded in the same period of FY2024.
The Group reported a revenue of RM467.1 million for the quarter, marking a 2 percent increase compared to the previous quarter, Q4 FY2024. The slight improvement in revenue was led by its aviation and parcel segments, with both delivering encouraging results. The aviation segment continued its momentum both in revenue and profitability, benefiting from sustained demand for cargo handling, engineering solutions, and in-flight catering services.
The parcel segment recorded marginal growth, supported by service quality improvements and continued efforts to differentiate through quality and reliability, despite ongoing market and regulatory challenges. While the retail segment maintained stable sales performance year-on-year, the Group is actively repositioning retail operations to align with evolving
customer needs and exploring new service offerings.
In the logistics segment, performance declined this quarter, primarily due to scheduled maintenance of marine assets and temporary slowdowns in the automotive sector. Looking ahead, Pos Logistics will focus on expanding its third-party logistics (3PL) and freight forwarding capabilities, while strengthening its position in automotive logistics to drive future growth.
Charles Brewer, Group Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia Group said, 'We are encouraged by the steady progress across our key business segments, particularly in aviation and parcel. These results reflect the collective efforts of our teams and our ongoing focus on operational improvement and customer satisfaction.'
Despite the negative earnings. the group remains confident in its transformation efforts and its ability to deliver sustainable, long-term value to stakeholders. Related

Felda elevates Qurban with tech, sustainable methods

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) Group has raised the bar for systematic and sustainable qurban practices with its Qurban Berkat 2025 programme, which incorporates modern technology, structured management and environmentally conscious methods. Led by Felda Waqaf chief executive officer Hisyam Ahmad, this year's programme saw the sacrifice of 19 cattle. Seven were slaughtered manually at Dewan Perdana Felda while another 12 via machine-assisted methods at the Shah Alam Veterinary Abattoir. Cold-chain logistics, including the use of refrigerated trucks, ensured the meat remained fresh and hygienic throughout distribution, a move Hisyam said enhances food safety and supports the programme's scalability. 'This not only saves time but ensures the meat reaches recipients in clean and fresh condition,' he said during the event held at Dewan Perdana Felda, here today. Also present at the event was Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. Hisyam said the initiative also went fully digital this year, with all announcements, wakalah confirmations, invoicing and qurban e-certificates issued online. 'With the improvements made, we believe that Qurban Berkat 2025 programme will serve as a benchmark for systematic, professional and inclusive implementation of the qurban ritual,' he said. Beyond operational upgrades, Hisyam noted that the programme also reflects unity and compassion across the Felda Group, with participation from 14 subsidiaries, cooperatives and surau. He expressed gratitude to donors and participants, volunteers and staff, as well as livestock suppliers from the Chuping Livestock Integration Centre (PITC) for their support and high-quality cattle. 'This programme is not only a religious obligation, but a symbol of community care and a reminder that even during difficult economic periods the spirit of sacrifice endures,' he said.

Gadang, Cyberview end decade-long JV, cite regulatory impasse

KUALA LUMPUR: Gadang Holdings Bhd has mutually agreed to terminate a joint development agreement (JDA) with Cyberview Sdn Bhd, effectively ending a decade-long collaboration to develop a 49.17-hectare site in Cyberjaya. The decision follows a failure to secure planning approval for a revised final phase of the project, the group said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today. The JDA, initially signed on May 23, 2014, involved Gadang's indirect subsidiary Hillstrand Development Sdn Bhd, with Cyberview's unit CSB Land Sdn Bhd joining the agreement in 2016. The development kicked off with Phase 1 in 2015 and has since seen the completion of Phases 1A through 3C. Phase 3D is on track for completion by December this year, but Phase 4, consisting of sub-phases 4A, 4B and 4C, remains undeveloped. Gadang said the proposed revision of Phase 4C, from commercial shop lots to serviced apartments, was key to unlocking an additional RM25 million in returns, a proposal Hillstrand Development supported, pending regulatory approval. "Despite multiple rounds of discussions and negotiations, the parties were unable to obtain the required regulatory approvals, particularly for Phase 4C," the group said, adding that all parties subsequently agreed to terminate the JDA. Hillstrand Development has incurred about RM40 million in development costs related to Phase 4. Under the terms of the termination, Cyberview and CSB Land have agreed to pay RM21 million as their portion of the shared common costs. Gadang said it would make a provision of about RM19 million for additional costs in its financial year ended May 31, 2025. This will be reflected in its fourth-quarter financial results, expected to be announced in July. The company added that the formal mutual termination agreement is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
