Police urge ‘reluctant' witnesses to Sunshine Coast homicide to come forward

Police say there are people who know what happened the night a man was shot dead on the Sunshine Coast two years ago – and are urging those individuals to come forward to help bring closure to a grieving family.
Greg Sullivan, a 56-year-old father of two, died after a shooting outside a home in Halfmoon Bay in the early hours of the morning on June 22, 2023, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in an appeal for information Wednesday.
'Our investigative team is aware of several individuals who have knowledge of what happened to Greg that night but are not co-operating with investigators. We are asking those people to provide a statement to police,' IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong said, in a statement.
'We acknowledge that some witnesses may be reluctant to come forward for various reasons and to that, we say, 'Give us a chance to address those concerns. Give us a chance to bring some closure to Greg's family.''
In 2023, police said two 'suspects' were taken into custody at the scene, but didn't provide further details.

‘It's unacceptable': Adam Drake's defence lawyer blocked from leaving court, followed
The defence lawyer for the man accused of killing battle rapper Pat Stay says he was blocked from leaving the parking lot of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Dartmouth and subsequently followed. Michael Lacy told Justice Scott Norton about the incident before the judge delivered his final instructions to the jury in Adam Drake's second-degree murder trial on Tuesday. Lacy said justice system participants deserve to do their jobs 'without being harassed, intimidated, physically accosted, followed away from the courthouse.' Lacy acknowledged the need for defence lawyers to have 'thick skin,' but said people are not entitled to 'physically intimidate counsel, whether it's the Crown of defence counsel, to get in their way and impede them from leaving, following them after they leave the courthouse.' 'This is the kind of thing that's happened over the last two days in this trial,' he said. 'Not once in the 28 years that I have practised, have I been subjected to that conduct and I watched Ms. (Jennifer) MacDonald be subjected to that conduct.' After eventually leaving the courthouse on Monday, Lacy said he was followed, and that fellow defence lawyer Jennifer McDonald was behind the 'thug' who was following him, calling the person 'one of the thugs from the mob of the misinformed.' He said there was video of that person 'aggressively driving' with no licence plate, following them and circling in a parking lot they ended up in, to the point where police were called. Lacy said he wanted to make it part of the court record, but it didn't impact his ability to defend Drake. He said he didn't want to become a complainant for the purpose of doing his job, but he did want to ensure the jurors weren't impacted and that they didn't see or read about what happened. 'It's unacceptable, it shouldn't happen,' Lacy said. Ultimately, after learning through video surveillance footage that jurors were not present, he decided not to ask that the judge's instructions to the jury reflect the incidents. Drake is accused of fatally stabbing Stay at a Halifax nightclub on Sept. 4, 2022. He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. Missing three-year-old Montreal girl found alive in Ontario, Quebec police say
A three-year-old Montreal girl reported missing on Sunday by her mother was found alive in eastern Ontario on Wednesday afternoon, minutes after her mother appeared in court while facing charges of child abandonment. The Sûreté du Québec and Ontario Provincial Police confirmed in a Wednesday evening press conference that the girl was found around 3 p.m. along Highway 417, near St. Albert, Ont. She was alone but conscious and able to speak with officers, and is now doing 'well' after being examined by a medical team in hospital, OPP Staff Sergeant Shaun Cameron said. Ontario police used a drone to spot the little girl after receiving reports that she and her mother, 34-year-old Rachel-Ella Todd, were seen earlier in nearby Casselman, Ont. on Sunday. Officers following the drone reached the girl soon after. It was a moment of elation for the forces who had been searching tirelessly since Sunday. Around 150 Sûreté du Québec officers, as well as trained volunteers, were combing the Montérégie region, near where Ms. Todd walked into a souvenir store on Sunday afternoon and told employees she had lost her daughter. 'This is why we become police,' Staff Sgt. Cameron said. Many questions remain about the circumstances around the girl's alleged abandonment and whether she has been on her own since Sunday afternoon, but police declined to comment on an active investigation. Ms. Todd remained in custody Wednesday after appearing in a court in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., wearing a purple T-shirt and handcuffs on her hands and feet. She was arrested on Monday and charged with unlawful abandonment of a child. Prosecutors have objected to her release on the grounds that she poses a danger to the public. Because evidence continues to come in, a possible bail hearing won't be discussed until her next court date on Friday. The accused does not have a criminal record. The alleged offence took place Sunday in Quebec or Ontario, according to the charging document. Shortly before, Ms. Todd posted a disturbing TikTok video while holding the girl: 'You try that again, and this is going to get ugly,' she said, visibly angry. A caption read, 'Have you ever faced a mother who has nothing left to lose?' It is not clear who she is addressing. Police have since found the remains of a dog believed to have been with the girl when she went missing, near the store where her mother reported the disappearance. Police had been on the lookout for a long-haired chihuahua with reddish-brown fur. Police have released video of Ms. Todd's 2007 grey Ford Escape, with a 'Baby on Board' sticker on the right passenger-side corner of the rear window. Anyone who might have seen the vehicle between 9:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday is asked to come forward. Before the sighting of the girl in Ontario, she had been last seen at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday in their apartment building in LaSalle. The girl's father, Matthew Bell, 35, had shared pleas on social media for the public to help find his daughter. The professional chef did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday but posted a message of gratitude online. 'She has been found!!!' Mr. Bell wrote on Instagram. 'Thank you to everyone… Please allow me and my family to take this time with our girl.' Crown prosecutor Lili Prévost-Gravel said some members of Ms. Todd's family were listening to Wednesday's hearing online. Ms. Prévost-Gravel, asked in a scrum after the hearing whether she still believed Ms. Todd posed a danger to the public, said, 'Yes, for sure,' adding that she could not explain why because the evidence was protected. 'It's hard for a mother to work on that kind of case, but we have to do our job and keep the public safe,' she said. The fact that the girl had been found alive was greeted with relief across Quebec. Man wanted after allegedly breaking into 3 Toronto homes and stealing mail, jewelry
The suspect wanted in multiple break and enters in Toronto. (Toronto Police Service) Toronto police are searching for a man suspected of breaking into several homes and stealing mail and jewelry. The first incident occurred on April 30 at a home in the area of Bathurst Street and Shallmar Boulevard, north of Eglinton Avenue West. Police said the man stole mail and fled. On June 10, police believe the same man exited a white Land Rover Evoque near Academy Road and Gary Drive, broke into another residence and took a quantity of jewelry. Three days later, the same suspect broke into a third home in the York Mills Road and Fenside Drive area. Police said the homeowner returned shortly, prompting the suspect to flee without taking anything. On Wednesday, police released images of the suspect described as between 47 and 52 years old, five-foot-11 to six feet tall with a medium build and grey hair. Police said he was last seen wearing black-framed glasses and gloves and carrying a black backpack.
