Call for new and emerging artists to take part in Irish Cultural Centre's anniversary exhibition
AN open call has been issued for emerging Irish artists to take part in an exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Irish Cultural Centre (ICC). The site in Hammersmith, west London will host its ÍOMHÁ exhibition, which is Gaelic for 'image', from September 26, 2025 to January 12, 2026. The theme of the display will be 'journey', and the event is one of many planned to celebrate the centre's 30th anniversary milestone. Emerging artists who are Irish or of Irish heritage and living in the UK are invited to submit artworks to be selected for the exhibition. 'The ICC has a long-standing reputation as a prestigious gallery space, having exhibited the work of many of Ireland's most acclaimed contemporary artists and photographers over the years,' a spokesperson for the organisation said. 'This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to join a lineage of celebrated Irish visual art presented at the Centre,' they added. 'Open to new and emerging UK-based Irish artists and those of Irish heritage, ÍOMHÁ will celebrate personal, political, and imaginative interpretations of journey through painting and wall-mounted art,' they explained. 'This call is to artists of Irish heritage working in painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, or textiles.' To submit an artwork or several artworks, email a digital image of your work/s to [email protected] by Sunday July 27th. Include your contact details (name, address, mobile number, email), title of work, dimensions, a brief description for each artwork and a short artist biography. The cost to enter is £10 per artwork. Dan Sheehan expecting Western Force to bring the heat against the Lions
Dan Sheehan has asserted that his British and Irish Lions will draw on their pride in the jersey to match the determination of a Western Force side aiming for a notable win in Perth. With Lions captain Maro Itoje sitting out the first fixture on Australian soil, Ireland hooker Sheehan will lead Andy Farrell's squad at Optus Stadium this Saturday. Henry Pollock is set to make his debut start for the cream of British and Irish rugby, having been selected as number eight, while Finn Russell, the early favourite for the playmaking role against the Wallabies, is set for his first appearance of the tour as fly-half. The Lions know they are being targeted by Super Rugby teams eager to make history but Sheehan, who skippered Ireland against Wales in the Six Nations, declares they will not have a monopoly on passion. 'It's important to know where the opposition's mindset is and how they approach a game that only comes around every 12 years, like it does for the Western Force,' said the 26-year-old, who is one of nine players in the matchday 23 set to make their Lions debuts. 'I'm sure the Force will be 150 per cent of what they usually are. They will be flying into it and that bit of extra hunger can produce some powerful things. 'They would have been eyeing this game up since they probably first stepped into that Western Force change room. It'll mean an awful lot to them. 'But I don't want them to think that they're going to be hungrier than us. We have to demonstrate back our own mindset because this will be the first time I will be putting on the jersey, along with a few other lads.' The Force is the second game of a tour that began with a 28-24 defeat by Argentina in Dublin and while matches will soon come thick and fast, chances to impress Lions boss Andy Farrell will be limited. Farrell, however, has cautioned over the danger of players wanting a Test place too much. 'That's desperation and that's what we don't want because desperation leads to people being distorted in the way they go about the game,' he said. There are two survivors from the side that faced the Pumas in Sione Tuipulotu and Tadhg Beirne, although they have been switched to inside centre and blindside flanker respectively. Three-time Lions tourist Tadhg Furlong is given the chance to improve his match fitness with a start at tighthead prop following a season that has been heavily interrupted by calf injuries. 'There wasn't a big bang moment when you're out for six months and you're trying to scramble back, they were all short-term injuries,' Furlong said. 'It was tough because as the weeks went on we still thought we had a fighting chance for getting back for Leinster at the end of the season, but it just wasn't right. It would have been very risky to chance something. 'As desperate as you are to get on to the pitch, you also have a situation where you can't push. 'In some ways you can live with yourself because you're doing everything you can to get out there. When you can't, you can't.'

All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals: Throw-in times, where to watch and more
Who's playing? The last eight in this year's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship will be cut down to four with the four quarter-finals to be staged across this weekend. The pairings are Monaghan v Donegal , Tyrone v Dublin , Meath v Galway , and Armagh v Kerry . Where and when? READ MORE The games will be played as two double-headers at Croke Park on Saturday and Sunday. Monaghan v Donegal will serve as the weekend opener on Saturday, throwing in at 4pm, before Tyrone v Dublin at 6.15pm. On Sunday, Meath v Galway is up first from 1.45pm, followed by Armagh v Kerry at 4pm. Meath's Ruairí Kinsella tackles Dublin's Con O'Callaghan during the Leinster SFC semi-final. Photograph: Ryan Byrne/Inpho Are there tickets left? Tickets for Saturday and Sunday's double-headers went on general sale via Ticketmaster earlier this week with seated and terrace options still available as of Thursday afternoon. How can I follow the action? The two games on Saturday will be streamed live on GAA+, while Sunday's double-header will be televised on RTÉ. The Irish Times will be running a live GAA blog throughout the weekend, with updates, reports and reaction from our team of writers. Any news stirring? Following confirmation of the fixture details on Monday, Donegal criticised the six-day turnaround from their preliminary quarter-final win over Louth last Sunday and this Saturday's quarter-final meeting with Monaghan. While Galway were also in preliminary quarter-final last Sunday the same day, beating Down in Newry, they have an extra day to recover seeing as their quarter-final clash against Leinster champions Meath is set for Sunday. [ Donegal disappointed at six-day turnaround for quarter-final against Monaghan Opens in new window ] A statement released by Donegal GAA on Monday night claimed the welfare of their players was not 'adequately considered' in the scheduling process for this weekend's games. Donegal manager Jim McGuinness. Photograph: Laszlo Geczo/Inpho When will we know the semi-final pairings? We'll likely know the semi-final pairings after the final whistle of Armagh v Kerry on Sunday as repeat provincial and All-Ireland group pairings will be avoided where possible. Depending on how the weekend's results go, semi-final matchups between any combination of Monaghan, Donegal, Tyrone and Armagh would therefore be off the cards (given these counties already met in the Ulster SFC), as would Dublin v Meath (who met in Leinster). Then the All-Ireland groups would come into play, further limiting our options. Armagh, Galway and Dublin each came out of Group 4, so no replay of any combination of them, while it's also a no for Donegal v Tyrone and Kerry v Meath, as those counties already met in Group 1 and 2 respectively. We'll keep you posted on that front.
