Ex-D.C. Lieutenant Gets 18-Month Sentence for Tipping Off Proud Boys Leader
A former Washington, D.C. police department lieutenant was sentenced to 18 months in prison for tipping off a Proud Boys leader about an investigation and then lying about it.
Shane Lamond was found guilty in federal court last December of alerting Henry 'Enrique' Tarrio to a warrant for his arrest over the December 2020 burning of a Black Lives Matter flag stolen from a Black church. When federal investigators later asked Lamond about his communications with Tarrio, he lied about it in three separate false statements.
On Friday, Lamond said in court that he 'respectfully disagrees' with the guilty verdict, but also acknowledged he was 'sloppy' in his relationship with Tarrio, The Hill reported.
Judge Amy Berman Jackson told Lamond that that was 'quite the understatement.' His actions, she said, weren't in line with proper department guidelines 'unless you twist them until they're unrecognizable.'
'That is absolutely not the way police treat information about a warrant,' Jackson said Friday, The Washington Post reported, 'and Mr. Lamond knows that… He lied to the federal agents when he was a sworn law enforcement officer himself.'
Lamond, who had been with the Metropolitan Police Department for 24 years, is a first-time offender, and his sentence was considerably less than the 30 years he could have received for obstruction of justice.
Lamond has until August 1 to surrender.
Tarrio was convicted of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to 22 years for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot—a black mark that President Donald Trump removed via a pardon in January.
Tarrio, who was in the courtroom Friday, said Trump should pardon the former officer as well.
'This has to be corrected,' he told reporters afterward.
Also in attendance was Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes, whose 18-year seditious conspiracy sentence was commuted by Trump. Rhodes called Friday's sentencing a 'travesty of injustice.'
Jackson said a potential pardon didn't influence her sentencing decision.
'I'm going to do my job to the best of my ability, which I think is determining the right sentence,' she said, according to The Post.

Nevertheless, Morant told the cops she and her daughters suffered lung issues and nose pain from inhaling the pepper spray and police found splatters of the liquid all over their property on their side of the fence. Also, Morant tells ClickOrlando her neighbor's behavior has been like this since moving to the neighborhood back in November. 'She tells us every day, like, an everyday occurrence, every day since we've been here, we don't belong here. And we are monkeys. And she calls us the N-word. So, it's always something. So, I know she's doing whatever she can to make me move,' Morant told reporters. The last crazy Karen incident we've seen in Ocala was in 2024 when 60-year-old Susan Lorincz shot and killed Black mother Ajike Owens who knocked on her door demanding answers to the accusations of throwing a pair of roller skates at her kids as they played. Lorincz argued self-defense but was still found guilty of felony manslaughter and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Despite Anderson's argument in this situation, she was arrested on a felony battery charge but bonded out of county jail. Records show she previously faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapons and stalking. She also faces a restraining order filed by Morant on behalf of herself and her daughters, the report says.

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, 4 other members sue U.S. government over Jan. 6 prosecutions
Five members of the Proud Boys, a far-right militant group, claim their constitutional rights were violated when they were prosecuted for their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to a lawsuit filed Friday. The lawsuit was filed in Orlando federal court by former Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, Ethan Nordean and Dominic Pezzola. It seeks unspecified compensatory damages plus 6% interest and $100 million plus interest in punitive damages. The lawsuit claims the men were arrested with insufficient probable cause and that government agents later "found" fake incriminating evidence. They also claim they were held for years in pretrial detention, often in solitary confinement. "The Plaintiffs themselves did not obstruct the proceedings at the Capitol, destroy government property, resist arrest, conspire to impede the police, or participate in civil disorder, nor did they plan for or order anyone else to do so," the lawsuit said. Tarrio, Biggs, Rehl and Nordean were all convicted of seditious conspiracy and other crimes for their participation in the Capitol riot that sought to stop Congress from certifying former U.S. President Joe Biden's win over President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Pezzola was acquitted on the conspiracy charge but convicted of stealing a police officer's riot shield and using it to smash a window. After returning to office earlier this year, Trump granted pardons to almost all of the more than 1,500 people who stormed the Capitol. While Tarrio received a pardon, the other four plaintiffs had their sentences commuted. The lawsuit said all four applied for pardons on May 13. The U.S. Justice Department didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Comedian and media pundit Bill Maher is advising Democrats to 'win' back tech billionaire Elon Musk after the world's richest man fell out publicly with President Trump. Maher slammed some Democratic strategists' proposal that the party needs to have its own version of Joe Rogan. Instead, Maher said, Democrats should ask themselves why they lost 'the old one' since he 'used to be on your side.' 'He's expressed unease with some things Trump is doing, as has a certain disgruntled former employee named Elon Musk, who, like Joe, is another guy who, five years ago, was thought of as a liberal but got driven into the other camp by bad attitudes and bad ideas, a reversal I completely understand, although I would never emulate,' Maher said Friday night on HBO's 'Real Time with Bill Maher.' 'They tried real hard to cancel Rogan a few years ago, and when Elon hosted Saturday Night Live in 2021, well before he was a Trumper, some of the cast members gave him the cold shoulder for the sin of being rich. 'Maybe this will put quietest to the nonsense that Elon and Rogan too went to the dark side.' Ever since suffering heavy losses during the 2024 election cycle, Democrats are looking to rebuild their image, shore up their base and find ways to effectively counter Trump. The party is also looking for its next leader. Democrats have also expressed frustration about efforts to bring men into their coalition who, in November, backed Trump over former Vice President Harris. The GOP did a better of job of speaking to men during the race, particularly younger men, through mediums such as podcasts. 'They kicked our a‑‑es all over the place with these guys,' one top Democratic strategist told The Hill. 'They met male voters exactly where they were and we, on the other hand, had nothing comparable.' At least one House Democrat is open to wooing back Musk, who previously was a Democratic Party donor, into the party's tent. 'If Biden had a big supporter criticize him, Trump would have hugged him the next day. When we refused to meet with @RobertKennedyJr, Trump embraced him & won. We can be the party of sanctimonious lectures, or the party of FDR that knows how to win & build a progressive majority,' Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said in a Thursday post on social media platform X.
