Gov. Josh Stein announces a $11 million expansion for BSH in New Bern

Yahoo2 days ago

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) — Governor Josh Stein announced that BSH Home Appliances Corporation (BSH) will be adding 199 new jobs in Craven County.
The company will invest more than $11 million to expand its New Bern facility into a hub for all U.S. innovation and manufacturing.
'When globally known companies like BSH choose North Carolina for an expansion, it confirms the strength of our workforce,' Governor Josh Stein. 'North Carolina has the largest manufacturing workforce in the southeast, and we look forward to BSH's pioneering production that will create more good jobs and growth opportunities for Craven County.'
BSH's headquarters is in Munich, Germany, with its North American headquarters in California. This development in New Bern highlights the expansion of U.S. production and development, creating a central hub for cooking and dishwashing research, innovation and manufacturing, along with distribution and customer support for the U.S.
'We've been proud members of the New Bern community for over 25 years, and we look forward to further strengthening our contributions to the city and region with this important expansion,' Chief Technology Officer of BSH Region North America, Andy MacLaren said.
The annual average salary for the new positions in New Bern will be $60,779, which exceeds Craven County's average of $48,770. This could create an annual payroll impact of more than $12 million for the region.
'This expansion is a welcomed addition to Craven County and the entire state,' Senator Bob Brinson said. 'The people of eastern North Carolina are well-equipped for these new, good-paying jobs, and we're ready to support the company's next phase of growth.'

Finland's AIATELLA secures funds for AI cardiovascular imaging solutions

Finnish startup AIATELLA has raised €2m ($2.27m) in financing to develop and scale its cardiovascular imaging technology powered by AI. The investment will support the company in conducting clinical trials and further developing its ultrasound-based preventative screening tool, which can identify and quantify carotid artery narrowing within minutes. Nordic Science Investments spearheaded the funding round, with contributions from Specialist VC, Business Finland, and Harjavalta Ventures, among other investors. The Automated Image Measurement technology of the startup leverages images from ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging to analyse vascular imaging. This multimodal technology identifies abnormalities and quantifies changes over time in those at risk. It significantly reduces the time specialists spend on manual image measurements and documentation. As a result, clinicians can dedicate more time to patient care. AIATELLA is currently navigating the medical approval processes in several European and North American countries, including France, the US, and the UK. AIATELLA co-founder and CEO Jack Parker said: 'Our technology helps medical professionals analyse imaging much more efficiently, and at an earlier stage, so patients can get help before it's too late.' Initially applied to the aorta artery, AIATELLA's vision extends to encompass all blood vessels in the body with its technology. The startup noted that it is also developing a portable ultrasound-based screening technology for mass screening of individuals prior to the occurrence of symptoms. This approach aims to facilitate early detection of cardiovascular diseases, which are a major cause of mortality worldwide. The technology has already been employed in the UK and Finland at screening events, where it has helped identify potentially at-risk individuals. AIATELLA also aims to gather data on the presentation and progression of cardiovascular conditions across different sexes and ethnicities, as symptoms can vary widely among these different groups. Why Curaleaf Stock Blasted Almost 5% Higher Today

A state previously very resistant to marijuana law reform is having something of a rethink. North Carolina's governor is re-evaluating the state's approach to weed. 10 stocks we like better than Curaleaf › With the mighty struggles the cannabis industry is currently experiencing, any positive news item concerning the sector is encouraging for investors. That was the dynamic behind the nearly 5% surge in Curaleaf (OTC: CURLF) stock on Wednesday, as yet another small step toward legalization was reported. That sub-5% pop was more than high enough to beat the flat-lining S&P 500 index. That news came from one of the dwindling number of U.S. states that has not yet legalized cannabis -- North Carolina. In a TV interview with WRAL News, the state's governor Josh Stein clearly expressed support for flipping the switch on legal weed. "If you are an adult and that's the choice you want to make, you should be able to make that choice," he said. So far, that doesn't seem to be just empty rhetoric. Stein has issued an executive order (EO) creating a North Carolina Advisory Council on Cannabis, a body that will evaluate the pros and cons of marijuana law reform in the state. It will be composed of as many as 30 individuals and include legislators, representatives from tribal groups, and agriculture specialists. In the interview, Stein expressed concern that the market for products associated with cannabis and hemp is unregulated and as such poses a risk to the state's youth. The situation will likely be one of the many explored by the council. Of course, this development in and of itself doesn't move the needle much for any pot company, let alone Curaleaf. Yet it's still another sign that the ice freezing U.S. marijuana law is melting, if only slowly and gradually. Investors are justified in feeling a small jolt of optimism and for hoping the momentum continues.
