Zero tolerance for terrorism, India will never give in to nuclear blackmail: Jaishankar in Germany

The Hindu23-05-2025

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Berlin said on Friday (May 23, 2025) that India has zero tolerance for terrorism and New Delhi will 'never give in to nuclear blackmail,' referring to the cross-border links to the Pahalgam massacre.
In his remarks at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul after holding talks with him, the External Affairs Minister also said, 'India will deal with Pakistan purely bilaterally' and there should be 'no confusion in any quarter' in that regard.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Jaishankar met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and told him that India is looking forward to working with his government to elevate and expand the bilateral strategic partnership.
Mr. Jaishankar is in Berlin in the concluding leg of his three-nation tour to the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany.
Deal with Pakistan bilaterally
Addressing the press conference with M. Wadephul, Mr. Jaishankar said: 'I came to Berlin in the immediate aftermath of India responding to the Pahalgam terror attack. Let me share with you what I conveyed to Mr. Wadephul in that context. India has zero tolerance for terrorism. India will never give in to nuclear blackmail.'
'And, India will deal with Pakistan purely bilaterally. There should be no confusion in any quarter in that regard,' Mr. Jaishankar said.
Mr. Wadephul delivered his remarks in German.
Following the talks with the External Affairs Minister, the German foreign minister publicly condemned the terrorist attack on India, and supported India's right to defend itself against terrorism, sources said.
Mr. Wadephul also advocated a bilateral solution between India and Pakistan, they said.
'Excellent meeting today with FM @JoWadephul in Berlin. Deeply appreciate Germany's understanding of India's right to defend itself against terrorism.

'Discussed making our Strategic Partnership stronger, deeper and closer. Identified areas of further promise and potential. Exchanged views on issues from our immediate neighborhood to global concerns and challenges. Look forward to welcoming him in India,' Jaishankar said in a post on X after the meeting.
The EAM, in his remarks at the press conference, also said India values 'Germany's understanding' that 'every nation has a right to defend itself against terrorism'.
India-Germany partnership
The two foreign ministers also emphasised on 25 years of the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany.
Mr. Wadephul said the relations are more diverse and Germany wants to 'deepen our ties' while Jaishankar said that in recent years, 'our cooperation acquired many more facets, gained much stronger momentum'.
'Germany for India is our largest economic partner in the European Union, in recent years, our cooperation has acquired many more facets and gained much stronger momentum,' he said.
The EAM said, India deeply values Germany's crucial and invaluable role in 'shaping our larger relationship' with the EU.
FTA goal
Observing that Germany has been one of the most consistent and powerful supporters of 'rapidly doing a free trade agreement,' Mr. Jaishankar said, he is confident that if the two countries can meet the goal of FTA this year, there will be many more doors that will be opened to businesses on both sides.
Mr. Jaishankar's visit comes weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen in February issued directions to conclude the ambitious free trade agreement by the end of this year as the two leaders vowed to expand the India-EU strategic partnership in areas of defence, security and critical technology.
German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann in New Delhi on April 2 had said that 'time is high, time is good' to develop the EU-India free trade agreement.

Coward Pakistan plans another conspiracy against India, may create trouble in India by using..., this dreaded terrorist given the task to...

New Delhi: Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), one of India's most dangerous enemies, is now trying to spread its feet not only in Kashmir but also in India's neighbouring country Myanmar. Intelligence reports and some photos that have surfaced make it clear that this terrorist organisation led by Masood Azhar is now radicalising Rohingya Muslim youth and creating a jihadi network in Myanmar. According to a report by Resonate News, it is believed that Jaish-e-Mohammed has recently trained a Myanmar youth in Pakistan's Balakot training camp. Balakot is the same place which India destroyed in an airstrike in response to the Pulwama attack in 2019. It is being told that this youth went back to Myanmar after training and is now working there under the leadership of an 'Amir' i.e. jihadi commander. According to the report, Jaish has sent an amount of about 42 lakh rupees (about 50 thousand dollars) to Myanmar. This money has been given to the 'Burmese Mujahideen' for arms and operations. It is being told that Jaish-e-Mohammed is trapping the unemployed and angry youth of the Rohingya community in its net. There is already a lot of turmoil in Myanmar's Rakhine state, so the ground is ready for radical organizations there. There is also a fear that Jaish can use these Rohingya youth for attacks in Kashmir or other parts through the refugees present in India. Thousands of Rohingya refugees are already living in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Hyderabad. Jaish's presence in Myanmar can become a direct threat to India, especially for the northeastern states. States like Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland are adjacent to Myanmar, and these areas already have the problem of insurgency. Now if Jaish establishes a base in Myanmar, then it will become easier for terrorists and weapons to infiltrate into India from there. According to media reports, India is strengthening its strategic relationship with Myanmar. Whether it is the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway or the Kaladan Project, India's 'Act East Policy' depends on the stability of Myanmar. But if terrorist conspiracies are hatched against India from Myanmar's soil, then there can be a rift in the relations between the two countries.
