Where Should Mike Malone Go Next After Getting Fired In Denver?
With the Denver Nuggets unexpectedly firing head coach Mike Malone 79 games into the season, logic dictates that several NBA franchises will give the Championship-winning coach a strong look this summer.
Let's take a look at three teams where Malone makes sense.
The Blazers have improved this season, and they might have just found their star moving forward, which means it's time to ask the big question: Can Chauncey Billups take them even further, or is he more of a A-to-B coach?
Malone clearly represents an upgrade as of right now, so it'd behoove the Blazers to have a strong internal discussion of the long-term picture, as Malone likely would raise their ceiling.
With the evolution of Deni Avdija, Malone would have a 6'9 playmaker, who can scan the floor, rebound at a high level, and offer scoring in a variety of ways. That's not Nikola Jokić territory, but nothing is, so he might as well lean into a young Israeli forward, with significant upside.
Look, we can sit here all day and talk about the Luka Dončić trade, but fact of the matter is this: The Mavericks believe they can compete for a title with Anthony Davis as their primary star, so if that's the expectation, why not lean into a Tier 1 head coach, and hire Malone to at least give them a fighting chance to realize their own expectation levels?
Of course, Kyrie Irving's status is still up in the air after he tore his ACL, so there are some roster issues still to iron out.
But if the Mavericks are serious about their intentions of competing for a title - regardless of how far fetched that scenario is - they need to go all-in, and get the best. That includes upgrading from Jason Kidd.
The Billy Donovan era in Chicago has been... fine. He hasn't really stood out as exceptional, nor has he proven himself to be a headache. But similar to the Mavericks, Chicago feels as though they can be competitive, and thus the same logic applies.
Why not upgrade from a mediocre head coach, especially when there's a pre-existing relationship in form of Arturas Karnišovas and Malone, from their days together in Denver?
The bigger question here might be why Malone should be interested in the job, given that Chicago doesn't have a ceiling that's particularly high, even if his presence would raise it slightly.
Regardless of where Malone ends up, he should have interest from several organizations around the league.

Getting better with age, Marchand scores twice in the Panthers' Game 5 win over the Oilers
Associated Press EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — It's 2011 all over again for Brad Marchand, who at 37 is showing signs he's actually getting better with age in inching the Florida Panthers within a victory of their second straight Stanley Cup title. Marchand scored twice, including being credited with his second winning goal of the Cup Finals, in a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night. In bouncing back from squandering a 3-0 lead in Game 4 on Thursday, the Panthers return home with a 3-2 series lead for Game 6 on Tuesday. 'Yeah, we've been pretty good at bouncing back all playoffs,' Marchand said. 'We learned a pretty good lesson last game.' Of his 10 playoff goals, six have come in the Cup final series, making Marchand the 18th player to do so in the final and first since Edmonton's Esa Tikkanen scored that many in 1988. And Marchand, who scored five times in Boston's 2011 Cup-winning final series over Vancouver, joined Mario Lemieux in becoming just the second player over the past 50 years to score five or more times in multiple Cup finals. He also became the oldest player to do it. Acquired by Florida at the NHL trade deadline in March, the former Boston captain opened the scoring Saturday night midway through the first period. And then essentially sealed the victory by putting Florida up 3-0 at the 5:12 mark of the third. Both goals were scored in similar fashion, with Marchand jumping on a loose puck, putting his head down and driving to the net. ___ AP NHL: recommended

Angel Reese Silences Critics Once Again After Revealing Brilliant Marketing Idea For New Term 'Mebounds'
Since entering the WNBA as the 7th overall pick of the 2024 draft, Angel Reese has been the name on everybody's lips. Although some of the conversation surrounding her on-court ability hasn't always been positive, the Chicago Sky power forward isn't swayed by comments from internet users. Advertisement In fact, in a recent TikTok video, Angel Reese revealed how she thrives when her critics—or internet trolls—attempt to embarrass or discredit her, explaining that all they really do is fuel her fire. Angel Reese Plans On Reclaiming The Term 'Mebounds' With A Brand Deal Reese has faced an immense amount of scrutiny throughout her short career in the WNBA. Many of her critics blast her for her low shooting percentage on layups, while also attempting to discredit her impressive rebounding ability. Weeks ago, before Reese became the fastest player in league history to reach 500+ points and 500+ rebounds, social media users coined the term "mebounds" in an attempt to downplay the star's rebounding prowess. Advertisement However, Reese isn't letting the trolls get to her. In fact, she told her nearly six million TikTok followers that she loves when her critics post about her, because it only results in her getting more popular. Angel Reese Wants To Trademark The New Term "Whoever came up with the 'mebounds' thing, y'all ate that up," Reese said in an online video. "Because mebounds, crebounds, keybounds, tebounds... anything that comes off the board, it's mine." She continued, "And a brand ... that's six figures right there." "Whoever came up with that, the trolling, I love when y'all do it, because the ideas be good," she said, adding, "when y'all came up with mebounds — cause, statistically, all the rebounds I get aren't always just mine. They're the defenses, too, or somebody else's on my team — but when y'all came up with mebounds, y'all [ate]." Advertisement She finished the video saying she and her agent were "gonna work with that." On her X account, the NCAA champion even hinted at possibly trademarking the term as well. Chicago Sky GM Speaks Out About Angel Reese MEGA Despite Reese's positive social media presence, her team, the Chicago Sky, has struggled on the court. After their June 13 loss to the Atlanta Dream, the Sky fell to 2-7 on the season. In a previous interview, Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca addressed the team's gameplay, admitting he was "disappointed" by their performance. 'We had pretty big, significant expectations for this season. That's why I made the moves I made," he added, referring to signing veteran players like Courtney Vandersloot and Kia Nurse. Pagliocca Needs 'More' From Reese UNRIVALED Pagliocca then transitioned to Reese, 23, and discussed her new role playing further from the basket, as well as his hopes that her game would evolve before it became too late in the season. Advertisement 'That's something that has yet to come together, but it's a necessity for us to win,' Pagliocca said. 'She's had some great games, and she's had some games like everybody else that haven't been her best. But she's our best chance at versatility on this roster. We need more production out of her, but we need her to help us in other ways, too." Fans pushed back against Pagliocca on X, asking, "Wasn't Angel the player of the game [three times]?" someone asked. "I'm confused. She was the only one in double digits." Reese's Veteran Teammate Defends Her Amid The Chaos UNRIVALED The support carried over into a recent postgame conference as well, when Reese's teammate, Ariel Atkins, defended her against a reporter. Advertisement "I'm sorry, can I? Can I say something?" Atkins said. "This is a 23-year-old kid. And the amount of crap that she gets on a day to day, she still shows up. So whatever questions y'all got, about our team, basketball-wise, we appreciate it. But all the other nonsense, it's irrelevant." She continued, "This is a 23-year-old kid who handles herself with grace... She knows who she is, and we ain't gonna break her down for that. So whatever other questions y'all got, I'm hoping it's just about basketball, maybe a box score question. But the kid's crown is heavy, like respect that." Reese thanked Atkins for her moving defense before adding, "I just focus on basketball. I come into work every day and work. I don't complain, I don't care about anything else. I have bad days; I haven't been playing well at all. I come in every day and try and be better than the last. I know my teammates trust me; I know they have my back."
