Blanca Lopez, a Hispanic woman living in Irving, Texas said she has been subjected to an insensitive joke by the barista of a Starbucks store. The incident took place Monday when Lopez visited the Starbucks inside a Target story in Irving with two daughters.
She ordered a horchata latte but there was a handwritten message on the lid of her cup.
"What do you call a sick eagle?"
"Illegal".
This was the joke. "And when I read it, I'm like, OK. Was I supposed to laugh or what do I need to do," Lopez told CBS News. Starbucks generally write the customers' name on the cup, but this joke was written on the lid of the cup and Lopez felt particularly targeted.
"Why did they call me that? Why are they asking if I have papers or no papers? Why did she write this?" Lopez said.
"For me, like, it's offensive."
Lopez said she immediately showed the cup to a manager of the store who apologized for the joke. Lopez said she kept the cup with her as proof and still waiting for a formal response from Starbucks. "It's basically saying that we are sick, illegal individuals that do not belong in this country," she said.
Starbucks told CBS News Texas that it is investigating the incident and has a zero-tolerance policy for any discriminatory behavior.

"We want everyone in our stores to be treated with courtesy and respect; we apologize and are actively investigating and addressing this."
Lopez said she wants more than a vague apology. "I work as a manager. If someone on my team did something like that, I would fire her immediately," she said.
Dallas-based community leader Carlos Quintanilla organized a protest at the store after the incident. The protest was scheduled on June 28, but it was called off as no one showed up.

FIR after ransomware corrupts ad firm data

Lucknow: A Lucknow-based advertising company became the target of a ransomware attack, disrupting its operations and compromising critical data. Cybercriminals allegedly infiltrated the company's server and deployed a virus that encrypted all files and system data. They later demanded a ransom in exchange for decrypting the files. The company's IT head, Vivek Jain, filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station, prompting an official investigation. Inspector Brajesh Kumar Yadav, in charge of the case, confirmed that the hackers used malicious software to lock the company out of its own computer systems. When employees attempted to access the data, they found all files corrupted and unreadable. The company immediately informed senior officials and brought in a third-party antivirus security team, but efforts to recover the data failed. With operations coming to a standstill, the internal IT team formatted the systems and moved backup data to a secure location. While data is now partially restored from the backup, the system formatting wiped out much of the digital trail, making it difficult to trace the attackers. Two cyber investigation teams are currently working to identify the source of the ransomware and determine how the breach occurred. Police suspect that the attackers may have used phishing or exploited network vulnerabilities.

Biz class felt most insecureduring SP govt, says Khanna

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh finance minister Suresh Khanna launched a sharp attack on Akhilesh Yadav , calling the SP chief's allegations that business class was facing "socio-economic emergency" as baseless and asserted that the business community was most insecure under the Samajwadi Party govt. MLAs Neeraj Bora and Rajeshwar Singh supported Khanna's remarks and added that the Yogi govt had ended the era of "recovery brothers". "Yogi-led double engine govt has made UP mafia-free and business-friendly. The very business community Akhilesh Yadav speaks of today felt most threatened and insecure during the SP govt (2012-2017). Extortion, hooliganism, and commission-taking were central to the functioning of the SP govt, which operated on a model of "one district, one recovery brother" to fill party's coffers through trader exploitation," Khanna said. Khanna said that under the current double engine govt, the business community was actively contributing to the state's development by benefiting from transparent policies. He added that the double engine govt had effectively imposed an "emergency" on those who indulged in extortion and hooliganism during SP govt. "No new tax has been imposed in Uttar Pradesh in the last eight years. Diesel-petrol rates are the lowest in the country, and the state is moving towards prosperity by becoming a revenue surplus state," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo MLA Neeraj Bora criticised Akhilesh for aligning with those who once imposed the Emergency, adding that in today's mafia-free UP, extortion was no longer possible. MLA Rajeshwar Singh said under the SP govt, UP saw over 25,000 murders and 76,500 crimes daily, forcing traders to flee amid rampant extortion and fear. "Zero-tolerance policy against crime led to action against over 70,000 criminals," he said.
