GoFundMe for suspect in Austin Metcalf stabbing raises over $60,000

Yahoo06-04-2025

A GoFundMe page has been set up by supporters of Karmelo Anthony, the teenager charged with murder in the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf, 17, in Frisco, Texas, this week.
Metcalf and Anthony had an altercation at a track meet on Wednesday. The victim was at the event with his twin brother.
The crowdfunding page that has been set up for Anthony alleges that the suspect was 'jumped' by the brothers. It also alleges that at least one of the brothers knew Anthony.
The page goes on to describe Anthony as a 'respectful, well-mannered young man' with 'multiple college offers' and a '4.0 student.'
'A kid with ZERO criminal history- not even a blemish. A son raised in a loving home by parents who taught him right for wrong,' the page reads. There are two anonymous donors who contributed $1,000 each to the campaign.
The page also addresses viral photos appearing to show Anthony with a firearm. The gun is described as being an Airsoft gun.
Meanwhile, Anthony's lawyer, Deric Walpole, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that the suspect has maintained he is defending himself.
'I know that my client said it was self-defense. I don't have any reason to disbelieve that, but I need to develop facts, talk to people, and figure out what's going on before I make any statements about what I think happened. I don't have any reason to think it wasn't self-defense at this time,' Walpole said.
Walpole also said that he is seeking to reduce Anthony's $1 million bond.
According to an email the principal sent to parents Wednesday, Metcalf was an 11th grader at Memorial High School. Anthony is enrolled at Frisco Centennial High School. It's not immediately clear if they knew each other before the brawl.
Metcalf was a junior at Memorial and played on its track and field and football teams. His father, Jeff Metcalf, said Austin's twin brother was with him at the time of the incident. He told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that Anthony was sitting in his son's seat at the track meet and that the attack occurred after his son raised the issue with the other teen.
After the stabbing, Metcalf's brother, Hunter, reportedly held him as he died. Anthony has maintained that he was acting in self-defense, according to reports.
'I tried to whip around as fast as I could,' Hunter Metcalf told WFAA, struggling to recount the story. 'I looked at my brother and I'm not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.'
Jeff Metcalf said Hunter "was holding [Austin], trying to hold the blood in. My son watched his brother die in his arms."
Metcalf's grieving father told the broadcaster that his son "was going to turn out to be a great individual and impact this world with positivity" and said he was "so proud" of the 17-year-old.
He also realized his family wasn't the only one that was going to be turned upside down by the attack and expressed sympathy for Anthony's loved ones.
"I feel for [the suspect's] family because now their son will end up in prison and learn that he killed someone, and he devastated and killed my son, who I can never get back. It's unfortunate for everyone involved," he told WFAA.
'I'm not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart," the father said. "The guy was in the wrong place, and they asked him to move, and he bowed up [got aggressive]. This is murder.'
Despite his pain, the father said he "already forgive[s]" Anthony.
"God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family," he said.

Wesley Chapel family says dog survived alligator attack in their backyard

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A family in Wesley Chapel is traumatized after their rescue dog was attacked by an alligator in their backyard. A video shows Zeus, a German Shepherd, standing on a leash with a gator lurking just beyond the fence, a chilling moment the family now views as a warning. 'We have a doggy door, and Zeus will go in and out of it whenever he wants,' said Susan Alkhatib. 'We have it covered right now because of what happened.' 4 dolphins from Florida park involved in criminal investigation moved to Clearwater Marine Aquarium Earlier this week, Zeus stepped outside like any other night, only this time, an alligator was waiting. 'All of a sudden, I couldn't hear him anymore,' one family member recalled. 'My dad came in frantic. I'd never seen him like that. He said, 'The alligator just took Zeus.'' Alkhatib and her family ran outside with flashlights and caught a glimpse of Zeus struggling in the pond with the gator still latched onto him. 'The alligator had just let go of Zeus,' Alkhatib said. 'We started yelling at him to come toward us. When he got closer, he got tired. So we had to kind of go into the pond a little bit to get him.' While News Channel 8 was interviewing the family, a gator emerged from the water again before slipping back in. 'I have a 7-year-old sister,' said one family member. 'And I just think, if she was at the fence, would he have done the same thing to her?' Zeus miraculously survived the attack. He suffered a fractured and displaced jaw, along with multiple puncture wounds around his neck. 'The vet said it looked like his whole head was in the gator's mouth,' said Alkhatib. 'Even he said, 'I don't know how he survived.'' 'I honestly can't believe he is alive,' Alkhatib said. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has sent out trappers, but so far, they have not been able to capture the gator. Zeus is now recovering from several surgeries. The family has started a GoFundMe to help pay for his veterinary bills. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. The body of Adriana Suazo was found in a wooded area in the Norfolk District, in Milton, Mass., on Sunday, June 1 The 21-year-old's death comes after several women have been found dead in the New England region since March, sparking fears of a serial killer in the region Suazo's cause of death is being investigated by the Chief Medical Examiner, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's OfficeSpeculation that a serial killer is operating in New England has been reignited following the discovery of a woman's body in Massachusetts. At around 11:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, June 1, the body of 21-year-old Adriana Suazo was found 'in a wooded area' by a passerby near a home on 143 Central Avenue, Norfolk District, in Milton, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced in a press release. Suazo's body showed 'no obvious signs of trauma.' The Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of her death. Family members said they weren't sure why Suazo — who grew up in Boston — had been in Milton at the time, the Boston Globe reported. One of her sisters allegedly said she'd last spoken to Suazo on May 29. The discovery of Suazo's body marks the 13th unexplained death in remote or wooded areas in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine since March, sparking concerns of a possible serial killer on the loose in the region, Fox News reported. In April, the remains of six people were found in towns close to one another in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The victims included Paige Fannon, 35, who was found in the Norwalk River on March 6, Denise Leary, 59, who was found in New Haven on March 21 and Michele Romano, 56, five days later, according to police. Police denied a single suspect in the killings, despite speculation about a serial killer in the area at the time. 'This investigation is in the early stages, remains active and ongoing, and there is no information at this time suggesting any connection to similar remains discoveries actively under investigation by CSP or other CT law enforcement agencies," the Connecticut State Police told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. The police added that 'there is no known threat to the public at this time.' A GoFundMe page set up by Suazo's sister, Mel Loves, described her as 'a firecracker, full of life, laughter, and fierce love' and said her death has been 'heartbreaking.' 'Losing her so suddenly has shattered our world,' the description on the page read. 'My family is completely heartbroken, trying to navigate this pain while also doing everything we can to give Adriana the proper burial she deserves—a sendoff that honors the vibrant, loving, and unforgettable person she was.' The page so far has raised $9,550 with a goal of reaching $11,000 to cover funeral costs. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage?
