Minehead locals "so excited" for The Salt Path film release
People who live along a coastal road where part of the new film adaptation of The Salt Path was set say they're very excited for its release.The film, out on 30 May, stars Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, who play a married couple who walk the South West Coast Path after losing their home and one of them receiving an incurable diagnosis.The early part of the film was shot in Minehead, alongside Porlock Weir, Bossington and various locations in Devon and Cornwall.Residents who live on Quay Street in Minehead have fond memories of spotting Anderson and Isaacs outside their homes two years ago.
Mandy Nixon's home overlooks where the filming took place and is one of those living on Quay Street who has read the book by Raynor Winn.She and others have shared the book and passed it between houses since the filming first inspired their curiosity.She said: "We're all actually going together to see the film and we're very excited."Regarding the filming, she said: "We had to move our cars and they were here for two or three days."
Mandy's husband Mark remembers it being "very, very busy and with lots of people coming to watch the filming" on their street.He said he wanted to invited Anderson and Isaacs in for a cup of tea."We moved down here for the scenery, the hills, the sea... so we're really excited to watch the film," he added.
A few houses down lives Mark Kingston-James, who also saw the cast filming outside his home in Minehead and photographed Gillian Anderson and the crew.He said: "We are the gateway to Exmoor and I've noticed since (the filming) an increase in walkers using the coast path."It shows what Minehead's got nature wise and I think it's a different angle."The film showcases some of Exmoor's most picturesque locations and was made with the help of Screen Somerset and the South West Coast Path Association (SWCPA) as well as Exmoor National Park, Visit Exmoor and Visit Somerset.The Salt Path is released in the UK on May 30.

Travel advice as Saltash Tunnel works continue
Drivers are being asked to plan ahead for their journeys due to ongoing works to the Saltash tunnel. National Highways said the current tidal lane traffic system has been switched off and, in the meantime, fixed lanes had been implemented for safety reasons until new technology was company said its teams were doing everything they could to "minimise disruption" for users of the tunnel and Tamar bridge. "In the meantime, we advise people to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, especially those from Cornwall into Devon."He also thanked drivers for their patience while the traffic management was in Highways said the overhaul of the tunnel and traffic control system technology was due to start later in the summer, but due to the system detecting irregular faults in traffic signalling, the process had to be accelerated. It said: "The tunnel has functioning safety systems and CCTV in place, and daytime traffic is now using two lanes westbound through the tunnel and on the Tamar Bridge and one eastbound lane through the tunnel and over the bridge with the cantilever link for local traffic and Tamar Tag holders." "As an additional safety measure, traffic signals have been installed at Tamar Bridge, the eastbound approach to the tunnel and the tunnel entrances. "These lights are not in day-to-day use but will enable National Highways to close lanes in the event of a breakdown or incident."It said during the ongoing overnight tunnel closures, traffic would continue to follow the standard B3271 and North Road diversion routes.

Chelsea Flower Show garden donated to Devon charity
A homelessness charity in Devon has been given a garden which featured at the Chelsea Flower was selected to have the Pathway Garden once the show had finished on 24 May and a team has begun to install it in garden was inspired by the work of UK-wide homelessness charity Pathway and was selected for two awards at the 2025 flower show. Shekinah CEO John Hamblin said he was "incredibly proud" the charity was chosen to have the garden. Built by Modular Garden Limited, the company said it was sustainably designed with the help of people who had experience of garden won the Silver Gilt medal and the Environmental Innovation Award at the show which took place between 20 and 24 May. The garden will form part of a permanent community space at Shekinah in Plymouth thanks to a grant from Project Giving Back, which supports charitable causes through gardens at the flower show. "We are incredibly proud to be part of this inspirational project," said Mr Hamblin. "The Chelsea Flower Show offers a national platform to raise awareness of homelessness and health and inequalities and celebrate the journeys of those rebuilding their lives and health with dignity and purpose."This partnership truly reflects what Shekinah is all about."
