Coaching Indiana basketball 'brought fulfillment' to Mike Woodson, he says in statement
Former Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson released a statement Friday night, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to coach his alma mater.
"Coming home to lead Indiana Men's Basketball was an honor. It was a great opportunity to represent the program that helped shape my college career, and I'm deeply grateful for the full-circle journey back to Indiana," he wrote in his first comments about leaving IU since it was announced Feb. 7 he would step down at season's end.
"Thank you to the fans for your support through the ups and downs, my players, my dedicated coaching staff, team managers, the IU professors who guided our young men off the court, the medical staff and trainers who kept us healthy, and the strength coaches who challenged us daily. To my wife, Terri, and our daughters, Mariah and Alexis, your love and support have made this journey worthwhile. To my family and friends, thank you for giving me strength to continue building my vision while staying grounded.
"Coming back to my Alma Mater to coach brought me fulfillment. I'm proud to watch the young men I've coached transition into gentlemen on and off the court. I want them to know how proud I am of them. Our journeys will continue, and I'll always be there for them."

Iowa baseball reveals 2026 Big Ten schedule As Iowa baseball continues its long and winding offseason, the program announced its Big Ten schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, which includes some familiar foes and a few new opponents. Headlining next season's conference schedule are two consecutive road series to open up the slate of games, with the Hawkeyes traveling to State College, Penn., for a three-game series March 13-15 vs. Penn State and then visiting East Lansing, Mich., for another three-game set March 20-22, against Michigan State. Following the two road trips, Iowa returns to Duane Banks Field for two consecutive series, with the first being against 2025 College World Series-bound UCLA from March 27-29 and the second against Minnesota from April 3-5. For the Bruins, it will be the first time the storied program has traveled to Iowa City and the first three-game series between the two. Last season's Big Ten Tournament Semifinal between the Hawkeyes and Bruins was the first-ever meeting between both programs, with UCLA winning 9-3. After the Minnesota series, the Hawkeyes' Big Ten schedule alternates between home and away series for the remainder of the season. Iowa's remaining series on the road will be vs. USC (April 10-12), vs. Indiana (April 24-26), and Nebraska (May 8-10). Of note in those road series is the trip to Los Angeles, Calif., vs. USC, which will be the Hawkeyes' sixth-ever game against the Trojans (USC holds a 3-2 all-time series lead). Tyrese Haliburton is one of the NBA's most unique stars. He is the Pacers' offensive engine, but he is neither their leading scorer, nor the player who takes the most shots on their team. He is the conductor of one of the NBA's most balanced offensive attacks. Advertisement When the Pacers have a bad game in the NBA Playoffs, however, there are almost always calls for him to be more aggressive. It happened last season against the Knicks in the second round. It happened in the second round and Eastern Conference finals this season. And it's happening again in the NBA Finals after two games in which Haliburton has been ineffective outside of his memorable near-buzzer-beater in Game 1. The Oklahoma City Thunder's outstanding defense deserves credit for slowing Haliburton down. Lu Dort, in particular, has played a critical role in pressuring Haliburton full court and not letting the Pacers' star get comfortable. Still, there's no doubt the Pacers could use a more aggressive Haliburton to boost their chances of winning the NBA title. The question is, what does that look like for such a cerebral player? While being more 'aggressive' might mean taking more shots for some stars, the Pacers will not necessarily be better just by virtue of Haliburton taking 20 shots. That may help, but the solution is far more nuanced. Ultimately, as I explain in this video, the key for Haliburton will be getting into the paint more while still creating for his teammates.
