The Hindu2 days ago

Pensions were sanctioned to as many as 55 people and the General Provident Fund (GPF) authorisation letters were given to 15 persons during a special Adalat held in Nellore on Wednesday. Pension and GPF Adalat was organised here to review and discuss about pending pension cases and GPF related issues for speedy resolution.
Speaking to The Hindu, Shanthi Priya Sarella, Principal Accountant General (A&E), Andhra Pradesh, said, 'Pension and GPF Adalats have been organised across the State from 2022. The first Adalat was held in Visakhapatnam. Since I have assumed charge this January, Adalats were held at Kakinada and Rajahmundry where 50 pension cases and 20 issues related to GPF were resolved.'
'After Nellore, another Adalat will be conducted at Vinjamur in the same district. We are planning to hold Adalats at Bheemavaram and Amalapuram in the coming months. We are holding such meetings every quarter to cover all the districts of AP. The pension sanction documents will soon be provided electronically to retired government employees,' she informed.
The Principal Accountant General said that every government employee should be aware of the documents that need to be attached with the application while sending pension proposals. She also said that there is no need to wait until retirement to send the said proposals. They can be sent three months in advance, Ms. Sarella said.
She explained that many people are still sending pension proposals after retirement. Due to this, it has been noticed that the employees are upset that they have not been granted pension after retirement. From this month, the Electronic Pension Payment Order (EPPO) sanction documents will be provided electronically to employees retiring from few departments.
A video has also been made on the procedure for submitting the application online, and this video will be made available to all employees. It explains the common mistakes made by employees. The sanction of pension is delayed mainly due to improper filling of nomination papers.

RBI slashes repo rate by 0.5% to boost growth

In a bid to spur growth at a time when inflation has come under control, the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee on Friday (June 6, 2025) voted 5:1 to slash the policy repo rate by a bigger-than-expected 50 basis points to 5.50% with immediate effect. This is the RBI's third repo rate cut since February and will further reduce the interest burden for borrowers but will also cut the interest earned on savings by depositors. Separately, the RBI also decided to reduce the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by 100 basis points (bps) over the course of this year to provide sufficient and durable liquidity to the banking system. This means that the percentage of deposits that banks must keep in reserve with the central bank has been cut, leaving more money available for lending. The cut in CRR would release primary liquidity of about ₹2.5 lakh crore to the banking system by December 2025. Besides providing durable liquidity, it will reduce the cost of funding of the banks, thereby helping in monetary policy transmission to the credit market, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said in his statement. The CRR will be reduced to 3% of net demand and time liabilities (NDTL) in a staggered manner, with four cuts of 25 bps each taking effect from the fortnights beginning September 6, October 4, November 1, and November 29. One basis point is equal to 0.01%. 'This decision is in consonance with the objective of achieving the medium-term target for consumer price index (CPI) inflation of 4% within a band of +/- 2%, while supporting growth,' the RBI said in the monetary policy statement. The MPC believed that, despite global uncertainties, Indian economic activity will continue to maintain momentum in the financial year 2025-26, supported by private consumption and traction in fixed capital formation. Taking various factors into account, real GDP growth for 2025-26 has been maintained and projected at 6.5%, with first quarter (Q1) growth of 6.5%, Q2 at 6.7%, Q3 at 6.6%, and Q4 at 6.3%. The MPC also decided to change its policy stance from accommodative to neutral, leaving it free to raise repo rates if inflation trends change. 'After having reduced the policy repo rate by 100 bps in quick succession since February 2025, under the current circumstances, monetary policy is left with very limited space to support growth. Hence, the MPC also decided to change the stance from accommodative to neutral,' the Governor said. Textile mills urged to use Kasturi cotton

More number of spinning mills should use Kasturi cotton, said Siddhartha Rajagopal, Executive Director of the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil). Mr. Rajagopal told The Hindu on Friday that the government is targeting 10% of Indian cotton production to be tested and certified as Kasturi cotton in five years. It will also support this through the mini mission on cotton. In the 2024-2025 cotton season, 1.12 lakh bales of cotton will be certified as Kasturi cotton. Of this, majority is with the Cotton Corporation of India. The Texprocil is talking to international brands to use Kasturi cotton as it has traceability and quality assurance. Some of the textile manufacturers in India have made shirts and towels using Kasturi cotton. 'It is recognised as a pivot for quality cotton,' he said. The brand commands a premium and there are standards for extra long staple cotton too. Textile mills that have cotton can go for testing and certification if they have details of the ginners and farmers from whom the cotton was sourced. At a meeting organised by the Texprocil for members of the textile associations here, chairman of the Southern India Mills' Association S.K. Sundararaman said the usage by the textile mills will increase when they see demonstration of value for the cotton. Nishant Asher, secretary of the Indian Cotton Federation, said the pull should come from the garment and made up brands. The participants also suggested improvement of best practices by farmers so that the traceability starts from the farmers and reduction in short fibres in the cotton to be certified as Kasturi.
