An 80-Year-Old Rangers Hockey Fight Mystery Solved
If you had the good fortune to see the movie about legendary Maurice Richard, you may remember a fight scene where the Rocket knocked out Rangers defenseman Bob (Killer) Dill.
In the movie, Dill was played by our old friend Sean Avery. What the ex-Ranger may remember from the flick is that this was Richard's first major fight as a big-leaguer.
Part Two of the bout was their going off to the penalty box – shared in those days – when Richard decked Dill again.
But there's an interesting postscript that Richard told me when I worked on his book, "The Flying Frenchmen."
"The funniest part of the whole incident was after the game," Richard recalled. "I walked out of the Garden exit on West 49th Street. Right across the street was the Hotel Belvedere and there was Dill waiting for me.
"I couldn't speak too much English at the time but I asked Dill if he wanted to have dinner with me. He said, 'This is the first time I've ever been punched that hard but I don't think I'll have dinner with you!"
P.S. When the pair would meet occasionally after that encounter, Rocket added: "Bob would give me a big handshake and a big smile!"

Former NFL star Antonio Brown is wanted by police in Florida on charges of attempted murder (ELSA) Police in Florida have issued a warrant for the arrest of former NFL star Antonio Brown on a charge of attempted murder, authorities confirmed on Friday. Super Bowl-winner Brown is wanted in connection with an incident at an amateur boxing event in Miami on May 16. Advertisement A copy of the warrant said "several" witnesses saw Brown fire shots following a physical altercation with another man. The warrant said Brown had grabbed the handgun from a security guard. An off-duty police officer providing security for the event detained Brown before other police arrived on the scene. No gun was found on Brown, and the other man involved in the fight with the ex-Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver was not immediately located. The arrest warrant said two spent shell casings were recovered from the scene along with a discarded firearm holster. Brown later addressed the incident in a post on X on May 17, saying he had been "jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me." Advertisement "Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me," Brown wrote. "I went home that night and was not arrested."
