Hearts and Aberdeen braced for transfer tussle as Premiership rivals eye Iraq winger

Daily Record2 days ago

The two clubs have a winger who is impressing in Norway on their radar and they could battle it out for the star
Stromsgodset winger Marko Farji is on Hearts' transfer radar - with Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen also showing interest.
The Jambos are looking to strengthen their attacking options under new boss Derek McInnes and Record Sport revealed they were in for Claudio Braga, while Islam Chesnokov is another who looks set for Gorgie.

Farji has turned out for his club 11 times so far this term and despite their struggles - sit 14th in the Norwegian Eliteserien with just two wins from nine - the playmaker has seven goals and three assists in all competitions.

Fellow target Braga also plies his trade in Norway in the second division with Aaelsund which appears to signal a desire from the recruitment staff to venture into new territories.
Farji, who has been capped twice for Iraq, is under contract with Stromsgodset until 2026 and a six-figure fee would likely be enough to get a deal done.
The creative talent is versatile and while he most often operates as a left-winger, he can also play in an attacking midfield position or on the right-flank.
With Daniel Arzani's future still up in the air amid interest from Tynecastle, the Australian has suitors in Asia and across Europe so Farji could be an alternative to the ex- Celtic man.
It comes as they continue to push for a deal for Stuart Findlay at the back as well as Uchenna Ogundu up top.

The latest on Celtic's winger hunt amid 'number of targets'

The Parkhead club are 'expected' to sign versatile attacking midfielder Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjaelland, although it doesn't look like they will stop there. Indeed, Sky Sports claims that Celtic are on the hunt for a winger this summer, and that they have 'made contact' for a number of targets, including Sondre Orjasaeter of Sarpsborg and Royal Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha. Read more: The latter ended an injury-ravaged 2024/25 campaign by contributing to seven goals in 11 games. Balikwisha was linked with a move to Parkehad last summer, while Orjasaeter was said to be the subject of a £4.6 million bid from Celtic in January. He previously addressed his failed move: "I struggled to sleep," revealed Orjasaeter. "I didn't know if I was going to be in Norway or not. I could have moved at any moment. I had to carry my passport with me everywhere. "When the window closed, I felt a sense of relief. I came to the conclusion that I was determined to stay in Sarpsborg and play here, because I didn't know if I was ready to leave yet. "Going abroad now is another level up. It had become more professional and everything. There were many thoughts going through my head during that period. "If I get a little more time in Sarpsborg, I think I'll mature and be ready for it eventually. "Of course, you will have a better life after your career if you have more money in your account, but you only live once. For me, it is just as important to have fun along the way. It is probably even more important "I have a lot of friends to keep me grounded. I think if I only had football, my head would explode! "I'm not much of a fan of football, but I love having it as a job. I couldn't have a better job than what I have. "But when I see that my friends are going on holiday or to ski at Easter, I get jealous. I'm not going to lie. "I hope that those clubs understand that not everyone can be the same. At the same time, I have my serious side too. And I think that kind of thing comes a little with age."

Ex-Celtic midfielder's verdict on Odsonne Edouard return

The French forward left Celtic Park in 2021, joining Premier League side Crystal Palace after a successful four-year stint in Glasgow. Edouard scored 87 goals and provided 37 assists in 179 appearances for the Hoops. Read more: However, with his future at Palace uncertain, Allan was asked if his old club might be interested in their former star. Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Allan said: "I would, yeah. "Fantastic player. "It's obviously a position that Celtic will be looking to add to." Allan also suggested Edouard could bolster Celtic's attacking options alongside Daizen Maeda. He said: "I think we might see Daizen Maeda go back out to that wide area, where he was so effective in terms of his pressing and getting up and down the pitch. "He'll be looking to add to his goal tally come next season. "I think there's no question that it's an area of the park where Celtic need to strengthen." The 27-year-old Edouard has one year left on his Palace contract after a lacklustre loan spell at Leicester City. Allan, however, foresees a potential hurdle in a Celtic return: "I think the problem with the boys that are playing in the Premier League is that there's now the chance to go to the Saudi League, where they can earn ridiculous amounts of money." Allan also expects Celtic to scout for another potential star like Edouard.
