Jury deliberations begin in Harvey Weinstein's sex crimes retrial
The seven-woman, five-man jury is considering two counts of criminal sex act and one count of rape, each relating to a different accuser and a different date. In this case, the criminal sex act charge is the higher-degree felony.
Weinstein, 73, has pleaded not guilty.

Nearly eight years ago, a series of sexual misconduct allegations against the Oscar-winning movie producer propelled the #MeToo movement.
Some of those accusations later generated criminal charges and convictions in New York and California.
The New York conviction from 2020 was subsequently overturned, leading to the retrial before a new jury and a different judge.
Jurors heard more than five weeks of testimony, including lengthy and sometimes fiery questioning of Weinstein's three accusers in the case.
Jessica Mann said he raped her in 2013, when she was trying to build an acting career. Miriam Haley accused him of forcibly performing oral sex on her in 2006, when she was looking for work in entertainment production.
Kaja Sokola, who was not involved in Weinstein's first trial, told jurors that he forced oral sex on her, too, during 2006. At the time, she was a teenage fashion model trying to break into acting.
'They all had dreams of pursuing careers in the defendant's world, the entertainment industry,' prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told jurors in her closing argument on Tuesday.
She contended that Weinstein let the women think he was interested in their careers when what actually interested him were their bodies, and 'he was going to have their bodies and touch their bodies whether they wanted him to or not'.
Weinstein chose not to testify. His defence called other witnesses, including some former friends of Ms Sokola's and Ms Mann's.
Weinstein's attorneys argued that all three accusers consented to Weinstein's advances because they wanted help with their Hollywood aims.
All three stayed on friendly terms with him afterwards, a point the defence emphasised.
'It's transactional, folks. Yes, he wants to fool around with them, and yes, they want something from him,' defence lawyer Arthur Aidala said in his summation on Tuesday.

She also has an urge to express herself which can only be met through songwriting. Her second album I Forgive You is a lengthy suite detailing the journey from heartbreak to renewal and acceptance, all of which she renders in a similar sonic palette of silken vocals, soothing ululation, undulating piano, manicured rock guitar and cooing vocal effects. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It's relentlessly tasteful stuff, sometimes restrained and understated yet oddly self-indulgent. There are shades of Emeli Sandé in her classy soul pop approach and a touch of the Beyoncés to R&B ballad Push and Pull (also featuring a low-energy rap). Erivo can undoubtedly command vocal firepower but she plays it close to her chest even when singing of emotional turmoil on More Than Twice or combing over the embers of a relationship on Save Me From You. Later, she tests out some watery gospel on Holy Refrain, while Be Okay layers up a cappella vocoder harmonies. The title track takes it further into pop classical chorale territory and Replay makes interesting use of voice as rhythmic instrument. But anyone hankering for some musical theatre belting will have to be satisfied with the tasteful vocal acrobatics on the soaring You First and Brick by Brick, which is about as close as Erivo comes to power balladry. Little Simz | Contributed Mercury Prize-winning rapper and Top Boy star Little Simz is also experimenting with her vocals in the laidback and airy setting of her sixth album. Lotus is a social gathering as much as an introspective affair with exquisite contributions from guests including her London peers Michael Kiwanuka, Sampha and rapper Wretch 32, plus South African artist Moonchild Sanelly and Little Dragon's Yukimi Nagano. Simz sounds initially soft but insistent on Thief, but a latent anger erupts with stridency over atmospheric twanging guitar backing. She maintains a whispery flow on Flood, accompanied by the patter of tom drums, while she satirises a privileged trustafarian character on Young before unleashing a punky chorus in the impish style of The Streets. Kiwanuka adds his usual classy conscious soul touch to the sumptuous title track and, best of all, Simz leans into the fun and freaky spirit of The Slits on the chiming reggae funk groove of Enough. Only as the album draws to a close does she lay bare the extent of her insecurities with such spiritual soul that it is hard to credit she was seriously considering ditching music for acting before she made this excellent record. Finn Wolfhard | Contributed In a good week for actor/singers, Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard releases his debut solo album. At 22, he is already a veteran of two bands, Calpurnia and The Aubreys, but such was his prolific flow throughout 2022 that he needed an additional home for his plaintive lo-fi pop songs. Happy Birthday, produced in raw DIY style by Kai Slater of teen punk trio Lifeguard, is forged in the off-kilter indie tradition of Wolfhard's countrymen, Pavement, The Flaming Lips and Daniel Johnston. Glasgow jazz quartet Azamiah conceived this EP follow-up to debut album In Places in rural Suffolk before recording in Gorbals Sound with frontwoman India Blue also producing. Two Lands glides through the dreamy soul jazz of My Lonely Heart and rapturous quiet storm Let Dust Settle to arrive at Pressure Point, a nu-soul odyssey distinguished by Alex Palmer's lithe drumming and Blue's Minnie Ripertonesque whistle tones. CLASSICAL Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Shostakovich: Complete String Quartets, Vol 2 (Harmonia Mundi) ★★★★ It was clear from Vol 1 (Nos 1-5) of the Cuarteto Casals' unfolding survey of all 15 Shostakovich String Quartets, that ensuing releases by the Spanish ensemble would be worth snapping up. Vol 2 brings us the five (Nos 8-12) written in the years following Stalin's death, marked by the easing of political censorship of composers; also, in Shostakovich's case, a rollercoaster of personal highs and lows. Thus the sharply varied personae of these works: the simple buoyant charm of the Sixth and melancholic reflections of the Seventh; the harrowing, self-quoting introspection of the Eighth; and onwards through the newfound expressive challenges of the Ninth and Tenth, the aphoristic concision of the Eleventh to the symphonic expansiveness of the Twelfth. These performances are a generous and sincere response, matching intimacy with fire, intense sadness with ecstatic joy, loving serenity with vicious irony. Inside story of Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham sacking with Daniel Levy rift that worsened during Europa League run

Postecoglou himself warned that could be the case just a day after teasing fans at Spurs' Europa League-winning parade that he could stay on for a third campaign with a prestige-telly analogy. It went down a storm, with many of those who had wanted the Aussie out for the woeful league form now fully behind him after he had ended the club's 17-year trophy drought. Their hope had been that Levy would perform a similarly emotional U-turn, and NOT go through with his pre-final plan of wielding the axe whatever the outcome in Bilbao. How can he possibly ditch the guy who has delivered our first piece of silverware since the League Cup in 2008, and the first European trophy in 41 years, they asked themselves. But Postecoglou always knew the chances of the long-serving Spurs supremo doing an about-face were slim, given how their relationship had frayed in the previous months. So it will have come as no surprise to the former Celtic treble-winner - even if it did to millions of Tottenham fans across the globe. Levy turned to Postecoglou in the summer of 2023, after being snubbed by Arne Slot who had decided to stay at Feyenoord for one more season ahead of his switch to Liverpool. But the Athens-born Aussie, who had never previously managed in Europe's top five major leagues before, got off to a stunning start by taking 26 points from his first 30 available. After an unbeaten first ten Prem games, Spurs were five points clear at the top of the table and anything seemed possible under Postecoglou. Fans took to singing a version of Robbie Williams' Angels regularly after matches, with the key lyrics altered to 'I'm loving Big Ange instead'. Having had two men sent off and having lost James Maddison and Micky van de Ven to serious injuries, Spurs, amazingly, continued to attack and almost nicked a 2-2 draw. But then Nicolas Jackson completed what was dubbed the worst hat-trick ever in injury-time - before Spurs were treated to a standing ovation by their fans as they left the pitch. It was unprecedented - yet after that game, things were never the same. Teams started to wise up to Spurs' style of inverted full-backs and clever cut-backs - as well as exposing the gaps they left at the back. Eric Dier, who left to join Kane at Bayern Munich in January, later claimed that Postecoglou 'really doesn't do barely any tactical work, what he does is every single training drill from Monday to Friday is drawn up to represent the way he wants to play.' Van de Ven and Maddison being sidelined disrupted the team's rhythm and they ended up being pipped by Aston Villa to fourth spot and Champions League qualification. Injuries decimated Postecoglou's squad in his second season - with the Aussie's intense pressing style accused of being a contributing factor - and the league campaign began to unravel. Raw teenage talent had mainly been added in the summer - although £65million was spent on striker Dominic Solanke - and it told. Postecoglou hoped for more experience to be added in January but out of the three arrivals, only Kevin Danso fitted that description. Spurs went on to finish 17th after losing 22 league games - the most a Prem team has ever managed and NOT been relegated - including embarrassing defeats to Ipswich and Leicester who both went down. The AngeOut army grew among the fanbase, who had been irked by his misreading the previous season of their desire to lose against Manchester City to deny rivals Arsenal the title. Ironically, it was done in a defensive style akin to predecessor Jose Mourinho, with the team having just 27 per cent possession and completing just 184 passes. It was more Ange Wall than Ange Ball, which suggested Postecoglou was capable of adapting when many pundits suggested he could not. That feat was not enough though to convince the higher-ups, who had not agreed with Postecoglou's decision to prioritise the Europa League from February onwards. It is understood the club began talking to representatives of other managers from the start of the year, underlining the shaky ground Postecoglou has been on for some time. Now it has collapsed from underneath him, to his disappointment as he felt the job in N17 was not done. But at least he walks away a hero, having finally changed the narrative to one of rare trophy success during the silverware-starved Levy story of the last 25 years.

'I just don't think it's fair': Weinstein juror threatens to quit over other jurors' actions
NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters) - The judge overseeing former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein's rape and sexual assault trial refused on Friday to dismiss a juror who said some jurors were treating others on the 12-person panel unfairly. "I just don't think it's fair and just," the juror told New York Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber in court, referring to things other jurors were saying and doing behind another juror's back. "There is a bit of a shunning happening," the juror said. The juror asked to be dismissed but Farber said there was no legal basis to do so after the juror confirmed that no one on the jury panel was pressuring him to change his view of the case. "If any other juror feels they need to talk to me, they can," the judge said. Weinstein's lawyers said they would make a proposal on how to address the matter later on Friday. Friday was the second day of jury deliberations. No other jurors were present during the exchange. Farber dismissed alternates from the jury on Thursday. Weinstein, 73, was convicted of rape by a Manhattan jury in February 2020, but the New York Court of Appeals threw out the conviction and ordered a new trial, citing errors by the trial judge. Prosecutors say the Academy Award-winning producer raped aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013 and assaulted two other women in 2006 and 2002. Weinstein, who has denied ever having non-consensual sex or assaulting anyone, has pleaded not guilty. He faces up to 25 years in prison for two counts of criminal sexual acts and up to four years for one count of rape. Weinstein is already serving a 16-year prison sentence after being found guilty in December 2022 of rape in a separate California case. Prosecutors with the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have portrayed Weinstein as a serial predator who promised career advancement in Hollywood to women, only to then coax them into private settings where he attacked them. Weinstein's defense lawyers have said his encounters with the women were consensual and accused them of lying about being raped after failing to make it big in Hollywood by sleeping with him.
