Jaylen Brown, Wyc Grousbeck, Boston Celtics named among 150 most influential Bostonians
Wyc Grousbeck and the Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown have been named to Boston Magazine's "150 Most Influential Bostonians" list for 2025. Grousbeck and the Celtics (as a unit) clock in at an impressive No. 1 overall (beating the likes of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu), with Brown currently ranked at No. 20.
The sale of the team and their historic 18th banner were of course the main calling card for Grousbeck et al., lauded for their approach to the change in ownership as much as bringing the title town status back to Boston. "The victory meant something even more for team governor and lead owner Wyc Grousbeck, who'd spent the past two decades leading the Celtics alongside his father, Irving, co-owner Steve Pagliuca, team president Rich Gotham, general manager Brad Stevens, and many others," writes Boston Magazine.
As for Brown, his community-building efforts with the 7uice Foundation were noted as paramount to his high rank, as was his launch of Boston Xchange, created "to narrow Boston's racial wealth gap."
His prowess on the parquet was also a factor of course, but it was heartening to see the Georgia native being honored for his contributions to the local community beyond basketball.

Report: Boston Celtics seeking first round pick, reduced cap hit in Jrue Holiday trade
Report: Boston Celtics seeking first round pick, reduced cap hit in Jrue Holiday trade The Boston Celtics are widely seen as a team likely to make substantive moves this offseason to get ahead of an unprecedented payroll and tax bill set to hand Boston more money in luxury tax penalties than actual salary. And while there have been but sparse rumbles to that end since the Celtics' season ended at the hands of the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals, things seem to be heating up on the trade rumor front. Fresh on the heels of a report from the Stein Line's Marc Stein that Boston has been fielding calls regarding veteran guard Jrue Holiday, Hardwood Paroxysm's Matt Moore relates that the Celtics are not just looking for "whatever reduced salary comes back in the deal," but also a first round draft pick. This appears to fly in the face of some reports making the rounds earlier in Boston's offseason that the Celtics might need to attach draft capital to get off of Holiday's substantial remaining salary, but with teams often negotiating through the media at this point in the league calendar, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle. Holiday still has considerable value as one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, and while his offensive game has slipped a bit with age, he can still deliver a punch on that end of the court when his number is called. The UCLA alum is owed $32.4 million next season, $34.8 million in 2026-27, and has a team option for $37.2 million in 2027-28, a substantial financial commitment even considering what Holiday brings as a player in this cap environment. We have heard reporting tying the Boston guard to the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks in recent weeks, and that field might expand further pending what other moves are made (or closed off) as we get closer to the 2025 NBA draft on June 25.

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 20 - Gordon Hayward (2017-20)
Boston Celtics jersey history No. 20 - Gordon Hayward (2017-20) The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the 28th of 31 people to wear the No. 20 jersey, Boston forward alum Gordon Hayward. After ending his college career at Butler, Hayward was picked up with the ninth overall selection of the 2010 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. The Indianapolis, Indiana native would play the first seven seasons of his pro career with Utah, coming to an end when he signed with Boston in 2017. His stay with the team would span three seasons, ending when he signed with the Charlotte Hornets in 2020. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Hayward wore only jersey No. 20 and put up 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
