Argentine Tango shows off winning moves at Beverley
The race lost a bit of its lustre with the withdrawal of Ali Shuffle and Saucy Jane, but Tim Easterby's juvenile still put in a taking performance.
Angel Numbers and Artista cut out the early running, but David Allan eased Argentine Tango to the front a furlong out and quickened clear.
Meelaf made good late headway from the rear to keep the winner up to her work, but she was always doing enough to prevail by a neck as the 15-8 favourite.
Allan told Racing TV: 'The gallop was quite good, I got a nice lead into the race, we quickened up well to the front and then she just had a little look when she got there.
'Obviously, when the second horse came to her, she dug in again and she's very tough – she's had a few runs and she's run a solid race every go.
'She loves it, just like her father did – Mattmu was a grand horse, tough as nails as well. He appreciated a bit more cut in the ground, which I'm pretty sure she will.'
Old Is Gold (6-5 favourite) showed the benefit of his Ascot third behind Military Code and subsequent scorer Fitzella when running out a relatively smooth winner of the bet365 Two Year Old Trophy EBF Conditions Stakes for Andrew Balding and PJ McDonald.
The son of Mehmas eased past pacesetting pair Ice Cold Alex and Raakeb a furlong out and quickly secured a decisive advantage, obliging by a length and a half from the fast-finishing Naval Light, who had no luck in running.
McDonald said: 'It was smooth, exactly as you like things to go. He behaved really well beforehand, I jumped and got a nice tow in through the race and when I asked him to go about his business, he's kind of leant and pricked his ears in front and just done enough.
'The horse has got a great mind and a great attitude and he's an exciting prospect going forward.'
Asked if Royal Ascot could be next, he added: 'With his temperament, his mind, I can't see a reason why he won't.'

Horse racing tips: ‘He goes on any ground and Richard Kingscote is a good booking' – Templegate's Sunday NAP
TEMPLEGATE takes on Sunday's racing confident of hitting form just in time for Royal Ascot. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. CRIMSON SPIRIT (5.00 Salisbury, nap) This four-year-old ran a cracker when third in a big field at York last time out. That was an excellent effort after nine months off and confirmed his liking for this trip. He goes on any ground and Richard Kingscote is a good booking for the in-form Kubler training team. NOVAMAY (5.37 Doncaster, nb) Can end a frustrating run of seconds with his first win. He has done little wrong so far and was right there again at Catterick last time. The first-time cheekpieces can help him to get home. ZAPPHIRE (5.45 Hamilton, treble) Finished strongly to score over a mile at Carlisle last time. That's a stamina-sapping track so this extra two furlongs should be ideal. SUNNY CORNER (3.23 Salisbury, Lucky 15) He was a good third on the all-weather at Kempton last time but is at home on turf too. He's slipped to just above the mark of his Newbury win last summer. Gemma Collins reveals ambition to become a dame as she recalls charming King Charles and Queen Camilla
Gemma Collins opened up about her ambitions of becoming a Dame, while recalling her charming encounter with King Charles and Queen Camilla. The TV legend, 44, admitted it would be the 'best thing that could ever happen' while opening up amid her new Ladies' Day Ascot campaign with Paddy Power. 'Of course I'd love it to be made a Dame, but I don't think it's going to happen just yet,' she told, according to The Sun. 'One day that is the dream. It would just be the best thing that could ever happen.' The former TOWIE star previously met King and the Queen Consort in 2023 at The Animal Ball, and was sought again after that time. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I love the royals. King Charles requested for me to meet him back in 2023. Clarence House called me because they wanted to get in touch with a British icon who is the mood of the nation. 'I dressed in Valentino and went to Lancaster House, in London. Charles was great fun, and very funny, I called him King of the Planet because I really admire him for all the work he does for the animals.' The screen favourite described the King as 'very down to earth' while the Queen was 'lovely'. Gemma revealed to be thrilled to be working with betting giant Paddy Power ahead of Royal Ascot's Ladies Day next Thursday - which she dubbed as 'fun' and 'such a vibe'. The fruitful collaboration - where she is joined by Peter Crouch as fellow ambassador - comes just after Gemma was coveted guest of honour at Cheltenham Races in March. After people were surprised to see her at the races, the reality star stressed 'women should be able to go to these horse races too'. Although she defined horse-racing 'blokey', she boldly claimed she is there to 'shut that down', remarking: 'Women rule the world'. Her brand-new project comes shortly after Gemma confessed she felt like 'dying' amid her devastating battle with pneumonia in a latest health update. She revealed earlier this week that she'd battling the condition for almost a month, before taking to her Instagram Stories on Friday showing herself undergoing X-rays at her Essex home. Gemma explained that her condition had been leaving her breathless 'really quickly' but due to medics diagnosing it as viral, antibiotics would be ineffective. She told The Mirror: 'It's shocking, I've had it now for over three weeks and I had steroids given to me by my doctor. It was DJ Fat Tony's wedding and I had to take them to get through that,' 'But I'm off them now and the sickness is really kicking back in. It's so frustrating because I normally have so much energy and I'm always loving life, but now I get really breathless really quickly and I feel like I'm dying.' Pneumonia is inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by an infection. Most people get better in two to four weeks, but babies, older people, and people with heart or lung conditions are at risk of getting seriously ill and may need treatment in hospital. Taking to her Stories Gemma shared snaps as she underwent X-rays while praising medical staff for their care. She wrote: 'Thank you to all the amazing doctors helping me your real life angels'.

Gemma Collins reveals her ambitions to become a Dame after charming King Charles and Queen Camilla
GEMMA Collins has opened up about her ambitions to become a Dame after charming King Charles and Queen Camilla. Speaking as she launches her new Ladies' Day Ascot campaign with betting giants Paddy Power the reality TV queen, who is pictured being fed grapes on a regal chaise longue by fellow ambassador ex England footballer Peter Crouch, thinks she's due an honours one day. 4 Gemma, 44, revealed: 'Of course I'd love it to be made a Dame, but I don't think it's going to happen just yet. "One day that is the dream. It would just be the best thing that could ever happen. 'After years of entertaining the public, I believe that I should get the title Dame Gemma Collins and it's just so funny because I'm sure this is what Charles' mum would have wanted.' Gemma previously met the King and Queen Camilla in 2023 when she attended The Animal Ball, but confesses that the Royals sought her out and invited her. She said: 'I love the royals. King Charles requested for me to meet him back in 2023. Clarence House called me because they wanted to get in touch with a British icon who is the mood of the nation. 'I dressed in Valentino and went to Lancaster House, in London. 'Charles was great fun, and very funny, I called him King of the Planet because I really admire him for all the work he does for the animals . "Personally, I think he's very down to earth. Obviously they're super posh because they're the Royal family. Camila was lovely. We had a good old chat.' Gemma, known as The GC to fans, feels she could play a role of agony aunt to Charles amid his fallout with youngest son Prince Harry. Gemma explained: 'I think Charles does need to mend his relationship with Prince Harry, life is too short. We do not know what's around the corner. "I didn't know I was gonna get stopped in my tracks with viral pneumonia a couple of weeks ago. "So I just think we've got one life, life is short and we all need to forgive in our hearts. "There is so much sadness in the world at the minute. You can really feel the energy. I just think life is short. We do not know if we're going to wake up tomorrow. "And honestly, like so much time is wasted on pettiness. 'I think the king is so cool and the nation would love to see him reunite with Harry. He's like the naughty child. You never know the truth, but I hope they can repair and heal.' Gemma is delighted to be working with Paddy Power ahead of Royal Ascot's Ladies Day next Thursday. It comes after she was their guest of honour at Cheltenham Races in March. She said: I'm loving working with Paddy Power. And they're really fun and I've just been so lucky like the campaigns we've been doing are just such a vibe. 'It all started when Paddy Power invited me to Cheltenham, as I've gotten older I like to say yes to a lot more things. I'm so happy they called because I literally shut it down. "People just didn't expect to see me in Cheltenham and women should be able to go to these horse races too. 'I feel like some women are just meant to be there to be dressed up, but it's really cool for women to have a little flutter on the horses, why should men have all the fun? 'Horse-racing is really blokey, but I'm here to shut that down. Women rule the world. 'Everyone can get the Royal treatment at Ascot. Paddy Power does things differently, they're full of mischief and entertainment.' She added: 'I met Peter Crouch - he was very nice, tall and gentlemanly.' Gemma is delighted that her hero David Beckham is getting a Knighthood finally. She said: 'I love David Beckham. I loved his Hugo Boss campaign and I was breathless without pneumonia. I think he deserves this knighthood so much. He deserves everything good coming to him. He's so down to earth. 'Funnily enough, I see his mum Sandra a lot in Epping. I don't disturb her. She goes to the same cafe as me. I just look at her and think, 'God, you must be walking on cloud nine, having such an amazing son.' 'I love the fact he's got into country life. I always remember him queuing when the Queen passed away. It shows respect on such a level and he is a great role model to young boys, young men and children growing up today.' 4 4
