Tyrese Haliburton, Jarace Walker injury updates: Will they play for Pacers vs. Thunder in Game 3?

INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers forward Jarace Walker has been ruled out of Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the Thunder on Wednesday with a right ankle sprain, according to the NBA's official injury report.
All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton is not on the injury report, though he walked with a bit of a limp after Game 2 and acknowledged he was working through a lower right leg issue. He said Tuesday in a news conference that he will be ready to play.
Walker sprained the ankle in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals and spent several days on crutches. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said days later that Walker would at least miss the first two games of the NBA Finals but would continue to undergo treatment to see if he could be available later in the series. It appears unlikely that he would be available in Game 4 on Friday, either.

Carpenter is hitting .268 this season with 13 home runs and 27 RBI for AJ Hinch's team, one of several Tigers candidates for July 15's All-Star Game in Atlanta. He hit .284 last year and is still gathering momentum at the plate, suggesting he still has plenty of room to grow this season as the Tigers remain in hot pursuit of a second consecutive playoff appearance and a run at the best record in Major League Baseball. Magic Johnson makes expectations clear for Luka Doncic

The Luka Doncic era has begun for the Los Angeles Lakers. While LeBron James, presumably, has at least one season left with the team, the pressure and expectations of leading the team to success have shifted over to Doncic. In six seasons and change with the Dallas Mavericks, he reached the Western Conference Finals twice and the NBA Finals once. While that may be considered somewhat satisfactory for that franchise, things are much different when they play for the Lakers, a franchise that has won 17 world championships. Magic Johnson, who led the Lakers to five of those championships, made it clear during an appearance on ESPN's "First Take" that the standard of excellence for Doncic in L.A. is the Larry O'Brien Trophy. "Luka gotta understand this is not Dallas. To your point, Kobe [Bryant], superstar who led us, Shaq (Shaquille O'Neal) led us to a championship, LeBron led us. And that's what's missing here. We shouldn't have to tell you to be in shape, you should have been about that, right? Especially when you're a superstar. So this is gonna be an important year for the Lakers, important offseason for the Lakers." So far this offseason, Doncic has looked noticeably thinner, which is certainly a good sign. Assuming the Lakers improve the rest of their roster, it will now be on Doncic to lead the way, both on and off the court, along with James, as they continue to seek their 18th NBA title. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle It won't be enough for Doncic to continue to put up insane numbers — he needs to consistently deliver in crunch time, something he didn't do enough of since joining the team, and especially during the postseason. That is what true Lakers greats such as Bryant, O'Neal, Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did in the past and what James did during the franchise's last championship season five years ago.

The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. Advertisement To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native would play parts of the first three seasons of his pro career with the Bucks, coming to an end when he was dealt to Brooklyn in 2018. His stay with the team would span a single game before he was dealt again, this time to the Orlando Magic for his last stop at the NBA level.
