The Latest The sexual assault trial that began in late April for five former Hockey Canada world junior players continues today in Ontario Superior Court. Each of the five defence teams and the Crown will have a chance to present their closing arguments. Defence lawyer David Humphrey is targeting the complainant E.M.'s reliability as a witness. He argued E.M. 'chose to abandon restraint' and has refused to take any personal responsibility for her own actions on the night of June 18-19, 2018. Four of the five accused men — Michael McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Alex Formenton and Cal Foote — chose not to testify in their own defence. Carter Hart testified earlier in the trial. All five men have pleaded not guilty to the alleged assaults in a London hotel room. McLeod has also pleaded not guilty to being a party to the offence. Two Guelph women lose a combined $50K in cryptocurrency scams
The Guelph Police Service is warning the public after two Guelph women were scammed out of approximately $50,000. Police said both victims clicked on Facebook ads that showed pictures of Prime Minister Mark Carney promoting apparent investment opportunities. Police said the two women were then contacted by someone who claimed to be a financial advisor and gave them steps on how to allegedly purchase and send cryptocurrency. Police said a 74-year-old woman lost more than $38,000 while a 59-year-old woman lost almost $11,000.

Guelph man arrested for allegedly waving around large knife
The Guelph Police Service has arrested a 45-year-old man after receiving multiple reports about a man waving around a large knife on Saturday night. Police said several people said they have seen an intoxicated man running around downtown while holding a 10-inch hunting knife. When officers found the suspect, they said they seized the knife, which was in a sheath hanging from his belt. The man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and public intoxication.
