Ukraine's defence minister: Ukraine and partners establish Ramstein initiative on defence production
Ukraine and its partner countries decided to establish a mechanism for defence production, according to an agreement reached at the 28th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (also known as the Ramstein Format) held on 4 June at NATO headquarters. Source: Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umierov at a joint press conference with his UK and German counterparts, as reported by European Pravda Details: Umierov said the idea to create this new format originated in Western capitals, which offered assistance in building a new defence industry owned by Ukrainian defence companies. Quote: "Our partners came to me and asked if Ukrainian companies could build factories for producing their cutting-edge products in their countries. Our partners said that they are willing to fully pay for all the production from these factories." Details: The defence minister stated that output will be sent to Ukraine for as long as the war continues. Umierov added that the initiative has since expanded during discussions and now involves mutual investment. He said that under this initiative, Ukrainian producers can invest in partner countries, while companies from partner states can build megafactories in Ukraine. This is currently a new idea that is still under development. Umierov said it doesn't yet have an official name and they are calling it the Ramstein Investment to Industries Initiative. He did not specify which countries had expressed interest in such investment cooperation. However, one aspect of the initiative – establishing production in Ukraine – received public support from German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, who expressed support for producing long-range weapons in Ukraine. Background: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged partners at the Ramstein meeting to invest more in Ukraine's defence industry. This marks the first time the US secretary of defence has not attended a Ramstein-format meeting. European Pravda sources say the Pentagon chief will also not attend the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting on 5 June. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Germany and Poland plan closer cooperation despite recent election
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski plan to advance cooperation between their two countries despite the victory of eurosceptic Karol Nawrocki in the Polish presidential election. "I assume that we will continue to work together very closely and amicably," Wadephul said on Wednesday during a meeting with Sikorski in Berlin. "Our ties are so strong that democratic elections here or there do not call them into question in any way." The cooperation also applies to France within the Weimar Triangle, for example in coordinating support for Ukraine, Wadephul said. The trilateral group, established in 1991, includes France, Germany and Poland, and is designed to promote cooperation among the three. Nawrocki, who was backed by the conservative nationalist Law and Justice party (PiS), had campaigned with anti-German and anti-European rhetoric. But Wadephul said the German-Polish partnership is so close and solid that he has no doubts that joint future and defence projects could be realized. Poland, he said, had held democratic elections. Germans and Poles are friends, "and we want to continue that," the German foreign minister added. Sikorski: Government controls foreign policy Sikorski described it as a sign of democracy that a representative of the opposition had won the presidential election in Poland. Similar to Germany, the president in Poland is not the head of government but a representative of the country abroad. He implements the policies set by the government. While the Polish president has more powers than the German president, including a veto right, "foreign policy is the responsibility of the government," Sikorski said. Wadephul: Defence and infrastructure are key topics Wadephul highlighted European air defence as a security guarantee for citizens and the advancement of European defence cooperation as key areas for expanding collaboration. This, he said, requires "concrete projects, industrial partnerships and political will that does not stop at national borders." A resilient Europe, he added, also requires efficient infrastructure. Roads, railways and bridges are "not just transport routes but lifelines for our security, including between Germany and Poland." At the same time, these investments would tangibly improve the daily lives of people in Poland, Germany and across Europe, he said.

Arne Slot's BRILLIANT tactic that won over Florian Wirtz
Having the money to spend on big transfer is one thing, but convincing the player to bring themselves into a different sporting environment is a whole other challenge. Envisioning the personal relationships the player would form with the manager, his future teammates, the club staff and in terms of working cohesively on the pitch, is essential to securing a signing. Advertisement Jurgen Klopp's loveable character as a father figure to some of the players was the they for most of the last decade. He knew how the team could succeed in a sporting sense, but his general character was endearing and players actively wanted to played under him. The move to Arne Slot as Liverpool's head coach changed things a little, but despite the Dutchman taking slightly different approach, it is clear that the Reds still have elite 'pull' in the transfer market. © IMAGO - Arne Slot Liverpool 2024-25 How Arne Slot got the players on board with summer moves The club's Premier League winning season will no doubt have helped in terms of showcasing the ambition of the Reds, but establishing a connection with transfer targets is still necessary. Advertisement In a report for Mail Sport, Lewis Steele has revealed the main tactic that Slot uses to help make players feel comfortable with the idea of joining Liverpool, knowing they're making the right move. He said: "[Arne] Slot is Mr Meticulous. I think the level of detail all top-level managers go into would shock most casual fans but Slot definitely goes above and beyond in this regard. "For example, when selling a pitch to a player to join his club, Slot has been said to show them big dossiers with what he knows about them and, most importantly, how the star could improve under the Dutchman's leadership. "Slot will probably have done this with the likes of Jeremie Frimpong and [Florian] Wirtz... it is an indication into why he is in the elite bracket of bosses." As such, while Liverpool often look extremely well drilled on the pitch, because Slot has worked out a tactical plan to outplay the opposition prior to a match, it seems as though a serious amount of work also takes place behind the scenes with the players at the club and the transfer targets he wants. Advertisement Playing in a new environment with a healthier salary is all well and good, but most players have an understanding of their ability and how complete an asset they are. Deep down, they want to be the best they can be and working with the right people who can help them achieve that is paramount. Slot's vision for Liverpool is deliver further success to the history of the club and the players have all made that same commitment by joining the Reds. They believe in the philosophy he is preaching. As such, Florian Wirtz's likely move to Merseyside will have been down to a lot more than just the size of the club and the success we're delivering. Tactically, the German will help the team step up a level and the player will fundamentally believe that we can improve his game as well. The absence of Klopp to persuade players to join might have been a cause for concern this time last year, but 12 months later, it's clear that Liverpool have secured one of their best coaches in the world.
