WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Walton County Emergency Management (WCEM) department scheduled their sixth annual TEST of the AlertWalton Emergency Notification System for Friday, May 30. According to a news release, this exercise is known as 'Operation: Know Your Zone' and will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Friday. The drill is designed to test the abilities of Walton County's AlertWalton notification system. In the event of an emergency, residents will receive important information to take action. The exercise helps the public understand the evacuation process and residents' evacuation zones, including zones A, B, C, D, and E, in preparation for hurricane season. GCSC Foundation announces '2nd Chance Scholarships' Those outside of evacuation zones will receive notifications with preparedness information. 'Performing this drill on a yearly basis allows our residents to better prepare for future emergencies and helps our staff find ways to improve our practices,' Director of Walton County Emergency Management Jeff Goldberg said. KANSAS (KSNT) – The Trump administration has approved a request from Governor Laura Kelly for a federal disaster declaration. On Friday, the Kansas Adjutant General's Department announced that President Donald Trump had approved the declaration due to severe winds, straight line winds, flooding and wildfires that happened between March 14-19 this year. Multiple Kansas counties sustained damage to utility infrastructure, roads, bridges and some government-owned buildings during this period, according to a news release from the Adjutant General's Department. 'I am grateful that this request for federal assistance has been approved,' Governor Laura Kelly said. 'These federal funds will go a long way in supporting the restoration work by those in counties impacted by the storms.' $1 million Powerball ticket sold in Kansas The declaration will allow local government and certain nonprofit organizations to apply for public assistance funds for repair or replacement of damage infrastructure.
