Avant Technologies' JV Partner, Ainnova, Begins Diabetic Retinopathy Screenings with Leading Pharmacies

Cision Canada16 hours ago

LAS VEGAS, June 17, 2025 /CNW/ -- Avant Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: AVAI) ("Avant" or the "Company"), and its JV partner, Ainnova Tech, Inc., (Ainnova), a leading healthcare technology company focused on revolutionizing early disease detection using artificial intelligence (AI), today announced that screenings for diabetic retinopathy begin this week in collaboration with Grupo Dökka and its leading pharmacy subsidiaries, Fischel Pharmacies and La Bomba Pharmacies located in Central America.
Both Fischel and La Bomba Pharmacies have asked their diabetic customers to schedule a free screening as part of a collaborative program where Ainnova will use its cutting-edge AI platform, Vision AI, to help identify changes in the retina using a quick and non-invasive scan of the patient's retina.
Vinicio Vargas, Chief Executive Officer at Ainnova and a member of the Board of Directors of Ai-nova Acquisition Corp., a joint venture company created by both Avant and Ainnova, said of the benefits for the collaboration, "As we begin similar initiatives in Mexico, our goal is to close the patient care loop with timely treatment—connecting every step of the journey. We are integrating pharma, retail, ophthalmologists, and our technology into a unified experience, all driven by one incentive: the well-being of the diabetic patient. Projects like this allow us to validate the model across diverse populations and sectors as part of our strategy to reach the market in a smarter, more efficient way—where the biggest winners are the patients."
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the main causes of vision loss in people with diabetes. Although, in its early stages, it may not present symptoms, it can be detected with a simple and quick screening. The screenings are important for:
Prevention: Screenings will detect changes in the retina before they affect vision.
Speed: Each screening takes only a few minutes.
Peace of Mind: Patients will receive the results of the screening in a secure and timely manner.
Grupo Dökka, which operates in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama with expansion expected into other Central American countries, has created numerous innovative platforms, including storage and distribution, pharmacies, and marketing and sales, that provide access to comprehensive health and well-being solutions for all people.

Musk's X sues New York over requirement to show how social media platforms handle problematic posts

NEW YORK (AP) — Elon Musk 's X sued Tuesday to try to stop New York from requiring reports on how social media platforms handle problematic posts — a regulatory approach that the company successfully challenged in California. New York's law, which Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul signed late last year, is poised to take effect later this year. X maintains that the measure impinges on free speech rights and on a 1996 federal law that, among other things, lets internet platforms moderate posts as they see fit. New York is improperly trying 'to inject itself into the content-moderation editorial process' by requiring 'politically charged disclosures' about it, Bastrop, Texas-based X Corp. argues in the suit. 'The state is impermissibly trying to generate public controversy about content moderation in a way that will pressure social media companies, such as X Corp., to restrict, limit, disfavor or censor certain constitutionally protected content on X that the state dislikes,' says the suit, filed in federal court in Manhattan. New York Attorney General Letitia James' office didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the case. The law requires social media companies to report twice a year on whether and how they define hate speech, racist or extremist content, disinformation and some other terms. The platforms also have to detail their content moderation practices and data on the number of posts they flagged, the actions they took, the extent to which the offending material was seen or shared, and more. Sponsors Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal and Assembly Member Grace Lee, both Democrats, have said the measure will make social media more transparent and companies more accountable. The law applies broadly to social media companies. But X is among those that have faced intense scrutiny in recent years, and in a 2024 letter to an X lobbyist, the sponsors said the company and Musk in particular have a 'disturbing record' that 'threatens the foundations of our democracy.' The lawmakers wrote before Musk became, for a time, a close adviser and chainsaw-wielding cost-cutter in Republican President Donald Trump's administration. The two billionaires have since feuded and, perhaps, made up. Since taking over the former Twitter in 2022, Musk, in the name of free speech, has dismantled the company's Trust and Safety advisory group and stopped enforcing content moderation and hate speech rules that the site followed. He has restored the accounts of conspiracy theorists and incentivized engagement on the platform with payouts and content partnerships. Outside groups have since documented a rise in hate speech and harassment on the platform. X sued a research organization that studies online hate speech – that lawsuit was dismissed last March. The New York legislation took a page from a similar law that passed in California — and drew a similar lawsuit from X. Last fall, a panel of federal appellate judges blocked portions of the California law, at least temporarily, on free speech grounds. The state subsequently settled, agreeing not to enforce the content-moderation reporting requirements. ___ AP Technology Writer Barbara Ortutay contributed from San Francisco.

Strategic property acquisition in prolific copper-gold region in BC

Canadian-based Grid Battery Metals focuses on exploration for high-value battery metals required for the electric vehicle (EV) market. The company has just made a big move in copper and Tim Fernback, President and CEO of Grid Battery Metals joined Coreena Robertson in studio to discuss the details. The following is a transcription of the above video, and The Market Online has edited it for clarity . Coreena: Let's start with the big news. Grid just closed on the acquisition of a copper property. Can you walk us through what this asset is and what kind of potential you see there? Tim: It's a 275 square kilometer mining tenure, five distinct claim blocks in a very prolific Omineca region of central BC. So it is a prolific copper gold region in British Columbia. And there are three deposits adjacent to ours, which are being worked by Northwest Copper. And of course, we're in the region where Centerra Gold's Mount Milligan mine has already produced 1.8 million ounces of gold and 750 million pounds of copper. Coreena: Now, you've already got a strong focus on lithium. How does adding copper to the mix strengthen the portfolio for shareholders? Tim: You know, it's all about diversification. We are a battery metals focused company, so we're looking for good projects with good metal potential. And copper and lithium are both in high demand and also they are projected to have a supply crunch going forward. So it's a good place to be for a Grid shareholder to have both of these metals in your portfolio. Coreena: Alright. Now copper's obviously a big deal, but from a defense angle, what exactly makes it so critical? Tim: So, it's the best conductor of electricity. So, if you have equipment that's powered by a diesel engine or nuclear power or even a battery, a rechargeable battery, it's going to need copper to get to where it's got to go to make it function. So copper, titanium, stainless steel. These are really critical metals within the defense industry because all their equipment uses quite a larger quantity of it. Coreena: Alright. And we're going to need more of it. Tim: Yes, of course. Coreena: We've seen this shift in political momentum from Trump invoking the Defense Production Act to Mark Carney's push for resource security here in Canada. What steps is the government taking to make sure metals like lithium and copper are sourced more domestically? Tim: So, the big trend with these critical minerals is reshoring or onshoring them back to North America. So North America over the last 40, 50 years has given away its refining capacity and its production capacity. So now that's being brought back onto North American shores and we're focused on developing our own internal resources. So good quality copper and lithium projects in North America will go forward and will be supported by the governments. Coreena: And with Carney's recent push to ramp up Canada's defense spending, how does Grid fit into that picture? Tim: So, what's happening in Canada is that there's a renewed focus on spending on military equipment and as mentioned before, copper's a big part of that, so is lithium. So Canada in particular has committed to going from about 1.4 per cent of GDP to 2 per cent of GDP in terms of defense spending. So that is $18 billion annually in addition to what we already spend for a total of about $60 billion. Most of that is going into equipment and metals like copper and lithium are a big part of what's being bought. Coreena: And finally, do you see your asset base aligning with those evolving national priorities? Tim: Definitely, having great lithium and copper assets as North America is onshoring those metals and developing those projects, they're going to be supported by the governments and it's really important for our shareholders to have those in their portfolio. Thank you so much, Tim for taking the time to stop by here in studio.
