Kampung Beng police post boosts safety in nearby areas
LENGGONG: The Home Ministry (KDN) announced an allocation of RM11.3 million for the construction of a permanent police post in Kampung Beng here today.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said initial construction work will be done this year at the two-hectare area near the village.
'The construction of the police post is to facilitate services such as complaints or police reports lodged by residents of Kampung Beng and its nearby areas.
'It also can be viewed as a completion from a security aspect when the new route between Kampung Beng and Intan Suraya (Sungai Siput) is ready and people from the East Coast will use this route to avoid traffic on the North-South Expressway,' he said during a media conference officiating the operations of the temporary police post in the village today.
He said that the ministry was convinced that the post would boost the confidence of tourists who visit the village, adding that construction of the temporary post began on Oct 10 last year and was completed on April 30 this year.
Shamsul said that operations at the police post, which is manned by three police personnel, has begun and will be opened daily from 8 am to 5 pm.
'This are measures we have taken before completing the permanent post and will allow residents to lodge complaints easily compared to previously when they had to go to Lenggong Police Station, which is rather far away,' he said, and expressed his thanks to the Lenggong district and land office for their help in realising the project.

'This is a valid and lawful consideration to be referred to the Federal Court, the highest judicial authority in the nation, with the jurisdiction to interpret the Constitution fairly and objectively. 'It is very irresponsible to equate this legal application with authoritarianism,' said Shamsul in a statement on Friday (May 30). Shamsul was referring to a statement by Lawyers for Liberty Director Zaid Malek, who called on the Attorney General Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to intervene on the issue. This came after Anwar's court filing last week, which reportedly sought to refer eight constitutional questions to the Federal Court, including whether he gets immunity from civil proceedings initiated by his former research assistant Yusoff Rawther. Shamsul said that in countries practising democracy, the issue of qualified immunity was always discussed to balance the need to administer the country and an individual's rights. 'The Prime Minister isn't above the law, but he should not be a target of politically-motivated legal proceedings, which could affect the stability of the country's administration,' added Shamsul. Shamsul urged the public to respect the rule of law and not abuse legal channels to craft their own political narrative. 'The nation has endured far too many episodes where the laws were manipulated for political interest. 'All disputes should be resolved via legal channels, not by manipulating the sentiments of the people,' he said. Yusoff had filed a civil suit against Anwar in 2021, accusing the prime minister of sexually assaulting him at his office in October 2018. Anwar is seeking a ruling from the courts on whether the Federal Constitution's Articles 39, 40, and 43 provide him with qualified immunity against the legal action brought by Yusoff.

Malaysia leading efforts to combat transnational crime
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is actively participating in efforts to combat transnational crime, with Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah highlighting the nation's role in developing a new Plan of Action to Combat Transnational Crime (2026–2035) and a Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crimes (SOMTC) Work Programme (2026–2028). Shamsul Anuar said the new plan and work programme would guide ASEAN's response to crime over the next decade. 'Our goal is to make these plans practical and ready for future threats, including cybercrime, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and terrorism. We want to work closely with partners like Russia and welcome their support and contributions. 'On regional security, Malaysia believes peace depends on strong arms control and following international rules. We support dialogue and trust-building to keep the region safe,' he said at the ASEAN-Russia Consultations of High Representatives for Security Issues - 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Matters (13th HROSM) held in Moscow, Russia. The meeting was chaired by the Russian Federation's Minister of Foreign Affairs, S.V. Lavrov. According to Shamsul Anuar, Malaysia is proud of the progress on the Comprehensive Plan of Action for the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership (2026–2030), which he believes would help both sides work more closely in important areas. 'We support the SOMTC + Russia Work Plan (2025–2028) to fight transnational crimes such as human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and cybercrime. We hope this plan can be finalised soon and officially agreed upon,' he said. He added that Malaysia also stressed the need for better coordination and information sharing between ASEAN and its partners to handle new security threats, including terrorism, cyber threats, and other transnational crimes. 'The 25th ASEAN SOMTC will be held in Malaysia from June 23 to 27, 2025. We look forward to welcoming all members and partners, including Russia, to Putrajaya. We are also hosting the 17th SOMTC + Russia Consultation on June 25, 2025, to strengthen our joint efforts against transnational crime.
