MCM set to extend garbage pickup to new sector condominiums
Gurgaon: MCM is planning to extend waste collection services to highrise buildings and condominiums within new sectors, addressing concerns about unauthorised waste disposal by the private sanitation agencies operating in these buildings.
Rather than implementing door-to-door collection, the civic body intends to allocate waste collection vehicles to these condominiums. The arrangement will allow the residential complexes' staff or agencies to deposit their collected waste into these MCM vehicles.
Subsequently, these MCM vehicles will transport the collected waste to designated collection points for further processing. According to officials, this system will enable better monitoring and control of waste disposal, preventing unauthorised dumping on roads and in public spaces throughout Manesar.
The civic body is currently engaged in waste collection in the villages of Manesar. The residential gated societies are categorised as bulk waste generators, so they are responsible for managing their own waste.
However, the MCM officials said that the objective of extending services is to keep a check on unauthorised dumping and ensure the processing of solid waste.
"We are planning to expand our waste collection services to include high-rise buildings to monitor and prevent unauthorised waste disposal by various agencies operating within these residential complexes.

As bulk waste generators, these high-rises are accountable for proper waste disposal at designated locations as mandated by the SWM rules, 2016. However, their failure to maintain oversight often results in illegal dumping.
So, it is like a monitoring system to address this issue," said the MCM additional commissioner Jitender Kumar.
"Due to operational constraints, the corporation cannot provide door-to-door waste collection services within condominiums. As an alternative solution, vehicles will be provided to these residential complexes to facilitate the transport of collected waste from doorsteps to designated collection and processing points," he added.

Trump tariff hike threatens to impact $5 billion engineering goods exports: EEPC India
New Delhi: The proposed 50% tariff on all foreign steel and aluminium by US President Donald Trump could hurt India's engineering exports, as these metals and their derivatives account for nearly a quarter of the country's total engineering goods shipments to the US. The annual export of steel, aluminium and their derivatives to the US currently stand at around $5 billion. The 25% tariffs imposed by the US on steel imports (as per the proclamation order dated on 18th March 2025) have created a challenging environment for Indian steel exporters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo Although India's direct steel exports to the US are relatively low, the tariffs have led to increased global competition and price pressures. The tariffs have also resulted in a shift in trade flows. 'In case the US goes ahead with its plan and impose a 50% tariff on steel, aluminium and their derivatives, exports of these key items will become costlier leading to a likely dip in shipments," said Pankaj Chadha, Chairman, EEPC India, in a statement. Live Events Chadha highlighted that the UK through its trade deal with the US recently got exemptions from 25% tariff on steel and aluminium and suggested that India should also ask for the same kind of waiver during the ongoing bilateral trade agreement (BTA) negotiations with the US. "This is perhaps not the opportune time to introduce such unilateral tariff especially when BTA negotiations are going on. It can make the work of the negotiators tricky. The proposed tariff increase by the Trump administration is likely to impact the engineering exports which are about $5 billion under this head," the EEPC India Chairman said.

Why Indians are turning to EB-5 Visa for the US: What it is and who is eligible
As the Trump administration tightens limitations on student visas, more Indian professionals and students are considering the EB-5 visa as a different route to permanent residency in the United States. The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program was created in 1990 and permits foreigners to get a Green Card by investing in US businesses that create jobs. A minimum investment of $800,000 (about INR 7 crore) in a qualifying US business is required for the EB-5 visa, especially in Targeted Employment Areas (TEAs) that are rural or have high unemployment rates. The investment should at least create ten full-time employment for American workers. Applicants have the option of investing directly or through regional centres authorised by USCIS that oversee economic development projects. Immigration lawyers report a 100% increase in applications from Indian students over the past few months. This uptick is largely driven by concerns over the stability of student visas and the desire for a more secure and direct route to permanent residency. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Soluções de energia de confiança para Data Centers de IA Siemens Energy Learn More Undo Investors can include their spouse and unmarried children under 21 in their application, in addition to the EB-5 visa offering a route to a Green Card. This option makes it an appealing option for families seeking long-term stability in the United States. Nonetheless, there are certain challenges associated with the program. According to reports, India gets roughly 700 EB-5 visas annually, which might lead to backlogs and lengthy application wait times. Due of the high cost demand, high-net-worth individuals are likewise limited in their access. Reports add that the Trump administration has responded to these restrictions by proposing a new "Gold Card" immigration program that would do away with the job creation requirement in exchange for a $5 million investment. This program aims to attract more affluent investors, but it has not yet received congressional approval and is uncertain legally.
