Anthony Jones, 2 other Michigan State football players enter transfer portal
EAST LANSING — Michigan State football had three players enter the transfer portal Wednesday, the opening of the 10-day spring window.
Defensive end Anthony Jones is the most notable. Two others, defensive back DJ Kennard and reserve long snapper Jack Carson-Wentz, also submitted their names to the portal, a program spokesman confirmed.

Jones will be seeking his fourth school in four years. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Las Vegas native began his career at Oregon in 2022 and redshirted after playing in two games, played 12 games with four starts in 2023 at Indiana and transferred to MSU in 2024. He played in all 12 games with the Spartans last fall, logging 25 tackles with two sacks on 302 defensive snaps and 28 special teams plays.

Carson-Wentz took over long snapping duties after a season-ending injury to starter Kaden Schickel during MSU's loss at Michigan and handled the role for the Spartans' final four games. The 6-2, 232-pound preferred walk-on from Georgia will be seeking his fourth school after spending 2022 at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne and 2023 at West Georgia of the Football Championship Subdivision.
The 6-3, 190-pound Kennard redshirted last year after arriving as a preferred walk-on in Jonathan Smith's first class. He enrolled in January 2024.

MSU finishes its 15th and final spring practice Saturday. The transfer portal is open until April 25.

5-star LB Tyler Atkinson taking Georgia official visit The Georgia Bulldogs are preparing for another significant official visit weekend and while the number of visitors might be lower, Athens is set to host several elite recruits. Among them is five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson. Atkinson is a familiar face in Athens, having visited Georgia multiple times for camps and prior visits. The Bulldogs have been actively recruiting him for years, using these in-person opportunities to sway Atkinson to come play between the hedges. Georgia has been the well-known leader for Atkinson and many people look at him as a potential future Butkus Award winner for the Bulldogs if he joins the program. Georgia has made Atkinson a top priority throughout his time during high school and needs to land a top an in-state prospect like him. This official visit will go a long way in determining if the Bulldogs can land Atkinson and keep him home from the other contenders. The five-star class of 2026 prospect went on official visits to Oregon and Clemson already and both teams are making a strong push for Atkinson. The Bulldogs also are after five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan. They already have a commitment from five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, who is the only five-star in Georgia's fifth-ranked recruiting class. Ranked as the nation's No. 8 overall recruit by the On3 Industry Rankings, Atkinson is one of the best players in the nation. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker had a dominant junior year. He led Grayson to a 14-1 record and a Georgia AAAAAA state championship, racking up 166 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble. 247Sports projects that Atkinson will commit to Georgia football.

BREAKING: Oregon Ducks land commitment from 4-star WR Messiah Hampton The Oregon Ducks picked up a major win on the recruiting trail to kick off the weekend, landing 4-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton, the No. 1 ranked player from the state of New York in the 2026 class. Hampton is a massive win for Oregon's new wide receiver coach Ross Douglas, who developed a close relationship with the blue-chip player while coaching at Syracuse and continued that relationship when he came over to Eugene. The 247Sports Composite rates Hampton as the No. 102 player in the 2026 class, and the No. 11 WR. He stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. He is scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon later this month. It doesn't come as a major surprise that Hampton committed to Oregon. The Ducks were battling the likes of Syracuse, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Miami Hurricanes down the stretch, among a few others. Ultimately, it is the relationship with Douglas that proved to be the most significant factor in getting him to side with the Ducks. While he is verbally committed, this commitment is long from over, though. According to 247Sports' Brian Dohn, schools like Syracuse and Penn State are expected to stay in the mix for Hampton throughout the fall, so until the pen hits paper in December, this will be an important one to keep an eye on.
