Panaji:
The sewerage line from Taad Maad shrine to the Tonca sewage treatment plant (STP) has been completed, paving the way for the road to be repaired and made motorable, the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) said. The IPSCDL said it has also laid the final layer of asphalt across all roads in the capital city that were dug up under the Smart City Mission . However, within hours of the IPSCDL announcing that the roads were repaired, the PWD's sewerage division began digging up roads, including the D B Road.'Significant progress is also underway on St Inez road, where 3,000m of concrete roadwork is nearing completion. The crucial sewerage line connection from Taad Maad shrine to the STP was successfully executed, paving the way for final touches on the road surfacing ,' said IPSCDL managing director Sanjit Rodrigues. He said that any digging near D B Road should not be attributed to the IPSCDL.The completion of the resurfacing of roads in the city, aside from St Inez, marks a significant milestone in the transformation of central Panaji's core road infrastructure. The repaired roads are MG Road from St Inez Junction to UCO Bank, SV Road, T B Cunha Road, 18th June Road, Cunha Rivera Road, and smaller road stretches around the municipal market. The IPSCDL said that the next step would involve road painting and installation of traffic signages by May 31. The IPSCDL will focus on plantation drives from June 1 to June 30 to enhance urban greenery and improve ecological balance . 'Special care is being taken to ensure higher survival rates of planted trees through climate-resilient techniques and regular monitoring,' Rodrigues said.'We are well on track, with substantial progress made across key project areas including road surfacing, signage, and utility integration. Our teams have worked diligently to ensure quality execution with minimal disruption to public life. As we approach the final stretch, our focus remains on timely delivery, sustainable landscaping, and long-term urban resilience.'

IIT Delhi Launches BTech in Design Programme for 2025: How to apply

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will introduce a new four-year undergraduate programme titled BTech in Design starting from the academic year 2025–26. This programme will be offered by the Department of Design and is intended to provide students with a foundation in both technical knowledge and design thinking, with an emphasis on addressing socio-technical challenges. To be considered for admission into the BTech in Design programme at IIT Delhi, students must qualify both the JEE (Advanced) examination and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in both these national-level entrance tests. Clearing only one of the two will not make a student eligible for admission into the programme. Eligibility criteria Candidates applying for the programme must have completed their Class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination in either 2024 or 2025. The required subjects for eligibility include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Additionally, for UCEED eligibility, applicants must be born on or after October 1, 2000. A five-year age relaxation is applicable for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories. These eligibility conditions are applicable as per existing norms of the respective entrance examinations. How to apply? The application process will be conducted online through the official IIT Delhi admissions portal. Applicants must ensure that they have valid scores in both JEE Advanced and UCEED before initiating the application. Once the application window opens, students will be required to register, provide their details, and indicate their interest in the BTech in Design programme. Important deadlines related to application submission, counselling, and seat allotment will be announced on the institute's website, and candidates are advised to monitor the site regularly to avoid missing any updates. Programme structure The BTech in Design programme is structured as a four-year degree course with a total credit requirement of 155. The programme will begin with an initial intake of 20 students. Approximately half of the coursework will be drawn from the core discipline of design, while the rest will include interdisciplinary courses offered by other departments, centres, and schools across the institute. The curriculum includes subjects in design frameworks, design prototyping, mechanics of solids and fluids, environmental science, research methods, communication and teamwork skills, design entrepreneurship, and exhibition design. The programme is designed to develop a foundation in systematic design thinking and problem-solving while also promoting hands-on skills and collaboration. The launch of this programme coincides with broader curriculum changes being implemented at IIT Delhi from the 2025–26 academic year across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. Under the new structure, students will have greater freedom to choose elective courses across disciplines including science, engineering, humanities, and management. An Honours option will be available to students, and those interested in continuing with postgraduate education may opt for an integrated + programme at the end of the third year, allowing them to earn both degrees in five years. Additionally, first-year students will now engage more directly with their parent departments, and first-year class sizes will be reduced to enhance student-faculty interaction. There will also be a greater emphasis on experiential learning and ethical, environmental, and creative dimensions of education.

L-G VK Saxena permits felling 27 trees to make way for flyover

NEW DELHI: L-G VK Saxena on Wednesday permitted cutting or transplanting 27 trees in a 2.16-hectare area coming in way of a flyover project in Nand Nagri in the city's northeast. The construction of a 1.5-km flyover between Mandoli prison and the Gagan Cinema intersection has been underway since 2023. 'In a major decision that would help clear the last hurdle in the way of infrastructure development in Northeast Delhi, L-G VK Saxena has granted approval for the exemption of a 2.16-hectare area for transplantation/cutting of 27 trees for a flyover project at the Nand Nagri-Gagan cinema junction,' a PWD statement said. The flyover was supposed to be completed last year, but the project hit a roadblock because of trees in the way, PWD said. The agency said the tree cutting permission was granted under Section 29 of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994, and after consultation with the Department of Forest. According to forest officials, PWD had submitted a formal request to it seeking permission to transplant trees for the construction of the project. The PWD said the proposal has already been cleared by the environment department, the chief secretary, the environment minister, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. 'This flyover project will address the long-pending issue of traffic jams and commuting in the area,' it added.
