Bhatti launches 1912 electricity ambulance service in Khammam
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has said that the 1912 Electricity Ambulances, manned by emergency response team personnel, have been deployed to attend to power supply interruptions promptly, on the lines of 108 medical emergency services.
Consumers can dial 1912 from anywhere if there is a power issue to avail the services of the electricity ambulances equipped with ladder, electric cables and requisite tools. This service is available across the State, he noted.
Mr. Vikramarka, who holds the portfolios of Energy and Finance, launched the 1912 electricity ambulance service of the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGNPDCL) and inaugurated a health camp for electricity department staff in Khammam on Wednesday.
He also inaugurated a sub-station real-time feeder monitoring system and fault passage indicators at the electricity sub-station at Janakipuram in Bonakal mandal. He said that all power projects in the State, including the first to seventh phases of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS), were initiated and completed under Congress rule.
In contrast, not a single unit of electricity was added during the 10-year rule of BRS, he said, pointing out that though some projects were started, none were completed.
'During TRS rule, the demand in March 2023 was 15,000 MW, but under Congress rule, it rose to 17,162 MW by March 2025,' he added. Despite the surge in demand, uninterrupted power supply was maintained, he said, appreciating the electricity staff for providing quality services round-the-clock even during midnight and floods.
Telangana will require 26,299 MW by 2029-30 and 33,773 MW by 2034-35, he said, quoting a Central government agency's report. The State government is already preparing estimates to double power generation to meet the future demand. The new Green Energy Policy envisages production of 20,000 MW of green energy by 2029-30, he noted.
He emphasised that government is currently supplying free electricity to 29,000 agricultural pump sets on 24/7 basis and providing free electricity to eligible households up to 200 units benefiting over 50.71 lakh poor families. The government is spending ₹11,500 crore annually on behalf of farmers and paying ₹2,293 crore to power utilities for free electricity scheme up to 200 units.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister, along with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, laid the foundation stone for a new bus stand in Madhira town at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore.

Close contest expected in Visavadar
Rajkot: Voting for the byelection to the Visavadar assembly seat in Junagadh district will take place on Thursday. There are 2.6 lakh eligible voters at 294 polling booths in the constituency, which is expected to witness a close contest. The byelection was necessitated by the resignation of Bhupat Bhayani, who won the seat on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket in the 2022 elections but later defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The contest is shaping up to be a direct contest between the AAP and the BJP, with the Congress also trying to regain its footing in the region. AAP has fielded Gopal Italiya, who announced his candidacy and began his campaign even before the official election notification. He has received strong support from party leaders, including AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who campaigned in Visavadar. Representing the BJP is Kirit Patel, chairman of the Junagadh District Cooperative Bank and a seasoned party leader. Patel contested the seat in 2017 but lost to Congress's Harshad Ribadiya, who later joined the BJP ahead of the 2022 elections. The Congress has nominated Nitin Ranpariya, a farmer from Bhesan and a supporter of Ribadiya's during his tenure in the Congress. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Düsseldorf: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo Caste demographics play a significant role in Visavadar. The Patidar community makes up the majority with over one lakh voters, followed by approximately 25,000 voters from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and around 7,000 Muslim voters. Historically, the Visavadar seat has seen shifting political allegiances. The BJP first won the seat in 1995 when former chief minister Keshubhai Patel contested. Although he couldn't complete his term, Patel returned to win again in 1998. Kanu Bhalara held the seat for the BJP in 2002 and 2007. In 2012, Keshubhai Patel contested again — this time on a Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) ticket — and won. The Visavadar byelection is being watched as an indicator of the political mood in Saurashtra. Box: 29 Green Booths The election commission announced that 29 polling booths in 15 villages of the Visavadar constituency will be "Green Booths". These booths will be decorated with mango and asopalav leaves and potted plants, creating a natural and inviting ambience for voters. Five of these booths are in the Junagadh, Bhesan and Visavadar talukas. As part of the initiative, election officers will also distribute saplings to voters at these booths, encouraging environmental awareness and civic participation. Box: 122 voters at remote Kankai polling station To ensure no voter is left behind, the election commission has set up a special polling booth inside the Gir forest for 122 registered voters. This unique booth, called the Kankai polling station, is near the Kankai temple and is housed within the forest department office. Due to the remote location, as there is no mobile network coverage, communication is maintained through wireless sets. The voters assigned to this booth are from the villages of Lilapani, Suvardiness and Gordvala Nes, and are mainly cattle rearers. The voter list includes 68 male and 54 female voters. Given the lack of internet connectivity, live webcasting will not be possible at this booth. Instead, the voting process will be videographed for transparency and accountability.

Congress, SAD accuse AAP of distributing ration, cash ahead of Ludhiana West bypoll
A day before voting in the high-stakes Ludhiana West bypoll, Opposition parties accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of brazen violations of the model code of conduct, alleging that ration kits, cash, and liquor were being distributed to influence voters. Both the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) filed complaints with the Election Commission, claiming that local police were not only turning a blind eye but were allegedly helping AAP workers in the distribution of freebies. Ludhiana district election officer (DEO) Himanshu Jain said he had 'sought a report from the Returning Officer' on all such incidents reported during the day. High drama unfolded at Sham Nagar near the Ludhiana bus stand, where Congress workers led by Mamta Ashu, wife of party candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, claimed to have intercepted a mini-truck loaded with ration kits. She alleged the bags were meant for distribution by workers of AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora. 'We managed to stop the vehicle and the driver admitted on camera that the truck was sent by Khanna Police, who even fuelled it. The police are not mute spectators—they are helping the AAP candidate. Some bags were unloaded at a house displaying AAP posters, but the house was locked. Despite our repeated calls, police and administration did not raid the premises. Now the truck has also been taken away,' Mamta alleged. In another incident, a man allegedly carrying a ration sack on a two-wheeler was stopped by Congress workers in the Jawahar Nagar Camp area. When the police were called, they allegedly manhandled the Congress worker and barged into his house. Videos of the altercation went viral, showing Congress candidate Ashu confronting local SHO Inspector Bikramjit Singh Ghuman. 'These officers are acting like AAP workers. Why would they stop them when they themselves are helping distribute rations?' Ashu shouted as the argument escalated. Inspector Ghuman, SHO of Division Number 5 police station, denied the allegation and said the man on the two-wheeler 'was not an AAP worker but was carrying rations for personal use.' He added, 'When Congress workers slapped him, he got scared and came to the police station. That's when we intervened.' On the truck incident, Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said, 'We have confiscated the truck under the Representation of the People Act. If the driver's claim about being sent by Khanna Police is verified, an FIR will be registered.' SAD candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman alleged that 'AAP workers were openly distributing cash and liquor in the Sunet area.' He said, 'I caught a local councillor and Malerkotla MLA handing out cash—up to ₹50,000 per voter. They even tried to plant liquor bottles in our vehicle to frame us. But we have it all on video.' Ashu, in his complaint to the EC, demanded FIRs against AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora, the transfer of all SHOs, and the removal of DSP (West) and SP. 'AAP workers are openly distributing cash, liquor, and ration under full state protection,' he alleged. Ghumman said he submitted two complaints—one to the police and another to the EC—adding, 'Even though outsiders are barred from the constituency, the Malerkotla MLA is moving around freely.' The BJP also weighed in, with state general secretary Anil Sarin accusing AAP of 'intimidating voters' and distributing items including saris, school bags, electronic items like coolers and inverters, along with ration and liquor. Dismissing the allegations, AAP state president Aman Arora said, 'Hooliganism is Congress's culture. Ashu manhandling police is shameful. Their frustration is evident because AAP's win is clear.' Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police registered an FIR at Haibowal police station against a man identified as Raj Kumar for allegedly distributing ration in favour of the Congress. Police said they recovered nine ration bags, a car, and a Congress flag from him. Divya Goyal is a Principal Correspondent with The Indian Express, based in Punjab.
