Al-Sulaymaniyah hosts Kasnazani Celebration

Shafaq News09-05-2025

Shafaq News / Hundreds of followers of the Kasnazani order gathered in Al-Sulaymaniyah on Friday to celebrate the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, in accordance with the solar-based "Muhammadi calendar" adopted by the order.
Speaking to Shafaq News Agency, Mullah Ahmad Kalari, a member of the Kasnazani Cultural Council, said, 'Hundreds of dervishes and devotees of the Kasnazani order arrived from various countries to attend the central celebration held at the order's headquarters in Iraq.'
Kalari explained that the festivities included recitations of the order's spiritual chants and prayers upon the Prophet Muhammad. 'The event will continue until midnight and has drawn diplomatic figures, religious leaders, tribal elders, and representatives of other Sufi orders from several countries,' he added.
The Kasnazani order is one of the most prominent Sufi orders in the broader Islamic world. Headquartered in Iraq, it maintains a wide network of followers and spiritual centers across several Arab and international countries.
The Kasnazani order (At-Tariqah Al-Aliyyah Al-Qadiriyyah Al-Kasnazaniyyah) follows the Muhammadi calendar, a spiritual solar-based system that differs from the Islamic Hijri calendar. In this calendar, the year begins with the month of "Al-Noor Al-Muhammadi" instead of Muharram, and the Prophet's birth year is marked as year one.
The calendar begins two months after the Hijri calendar, placing the Prophet's birth—traditionally in Rabi' al-Awwal, the third Hijri month—as the first month in the Muhammadi system.

Electricity boost: Iraq signs 600 MW pact with Turkiye

Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, Iraq's Ministry of Electricity signed a contract with Turkish company Alifrin to double the capacity of the Iraq-Turkiye power transmission line. The ministry announced in a statement that the agreement will initially supply 300 megawatts to Iraq's national grid through the Jazira-Kasak 400kV line in Nineveh province, with the full 600-megawatt capacity, expected to be operational within a month. 'Technical teams have already completed infrastructure to implement the interconnection, and all contractual obligations have been met.' The contract operates under a Take and Pay model, as Iraq will only pay for the electricity it consumes, 'offering economic flexibility and minimizing financial waste,' the ministry added.

Iran dismantles ISIS-linked operatives in Tehran

Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, Iran arrested members of an ISIS-affiliated network in the capital, Tehran, according to the General Command of the Internal Security Forces Saeed Montazer-ol-Mahdi. Ol-Mahdi noted that the arrests were made following 'extensive and complex operations' in recent days by the counterterrorism unit across Tehran and the provinces of Isfahan, Qom, and Alborz, adding that the network was preparing to carry out sabotage and bombing attacks during recent public ceremonies. 'All members of the terrorist network were arrested during the operation, including 13 individuals—among them the ringleader, support teams, and suicide bombers. Explosive devices, including suicide vests, were also seized.' The command added that further details about the dismantled network would be disclosed in the coming days. Iran has also reported multiple foiled plots involving sabotage and suicide bombings. In January 2024, ISIS-K, the Afghan affiliate of the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for two bombings in Kerman that killed at least 95 people during a memorial for Qassem Soleimani. The attack was one of the deadliest in Iran in recent years. Earlier, in June 2017, a coordinated assault on the Iranian parliament and the Khomeini mausoleum left 17 people dead and marked the first major ISIS-claimed operation inside the country.
