42 arrested in Assam for ‘defending Pakistan' after Pahalgam terror attack
Three more people have been apprehended from different parts of Assam for 'defending Pakistan on Indian soil' following the Pahalgam terror attack, taking the total number of arrests to 42 so far, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.
In a post on X on Sunday late night, Sarma said one person each was apprehended from Barpeta, Hojai and Chirang districts.
'#Update on Crackdown against traitors for defending Pakistan on Indian soil… Total of 42 Anti Nationals put behind BARS,' he added.
Earlier, opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan and its complicity in the Pahalgam terror attack.
On Friday, Sarma threatened to break the legs of those who raised 'Pakistan zindabad' slogan in the aftermath of the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack.
Addressing a campaign rally for the panchayat elections, he appealed to the people to pray and give strength to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army so that Pakistani terrorists hiding anywhere in the world can be brought for 'breaking their legs'.
Terrorists struck Baisaran, a prime tourist location, in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on April 22, killing at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring several others.

State pushed back 330 illegal foreigners: CM
1 2 3 Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed a one-day special sitting of the legislative assembly that about 330 illegal foreigners have been pushed back from the state so far and govt is waiting for floods to recede to send back another 35 individuals. "Of the 330 people we have pushed back, none of them have returned. It is impossible for them to return now," he added. He said the process of evicting illegal foreigners from Assam will now be intensified and expedited. "As Pakistani elements and fundamentalist elements from Bangladesh have entered Assam, we have to be proactive like never before to protect the state from these elements," Sarma added. He said this is also the reason why state govt has decided to revive Immigration (Expulsion from Assam) act of 1950 and enforce it. "Under this law, a deputy commissioner can push back whoever he finds to be an illegal foreigner without referring them to the Foreigners' Tribunals," he added. He reiterated that those having appeals in courts will not be touched. Sarma said a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court recently ruled that the IEA Act is in force and the state govt can proceed under its provisions.

Probe launched against Tripura Cong leader for ‘defaming' CM
Agartala: Police on Monday launched a search against Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) spokesperson Md Sahajan Islam for alleged defaming narratives and expressions against chief minister Manik Saha on Sunday night in a Facebook live. The officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee, said Sahajan's deliberation has triggered political unrest and hurt the communal sentiment of the people. He had made derogatory comments on the professional and personal life of the CM that is completely illegal. "Indian law doesn't permit the citizen to make a personal attack on the head of a state," Chatterjee said, adding that a specific case has been registered against Islam, who is absconding, based on a complaint and police have also launched an investigation.
