Trent Alexander-Arnold has raved about his new environment at Real Madrid as he hailed his new colleagues after choosing to leave Liverpool when his contract expired
Trent Alexander-Arnold claims his early days as a Real Madrid player are "a lot different to what I'm used to" as he hailed the quality of his new team-mates. The right-back has just joined from Liverpool as he embarks on a fresh challenge.
Alexander-Arnold has linked up with his new team for a small fee ahead of time so he can play for Real in the Club World Cup. The former Red has forged a reputation as among the best players in his position in the world and is looking to acclimatise to a new environment.
He's left the Premier League champions and joined a team who, despite their poor season, were winning the Champions League just over a year ago. He's now rubbing shoulders with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jnr.
Liverpool themselves were not short of star names with Mohamed Salah their headline act, but Alexander-Arnold is now getting used to his new team-mates as he trains in the heat of the United States and gets to grips with a new philosophy.
He told the club's website: "Hot to start with but a good session with some good things. [It was] good to get a feel of the ball and a feel of the heat training in this climate so it was a good session.
"[It was] high quality. The ball moves very fast. Obviously it's a lot different to what I'm used to in terms of the players and the style of play but it's good and I'm enjoying the change and I'm enjoying being a part of it. It feels really good and I'm happy to be here to be honest."
Alexander-Arnold's decision to quit Liverpool divided opinion as the player expressed a desire to seek a new challenge. Many in red were frustrated that he allowed his contract to wind down, meaning the club couldn't demand a big fee for him, as he was booed by some in the season's final games.
Alexander-Arnold made headlines for speaking Spanish in his presentation as a Los Blancos player and has revealed he is able to communicate with his new team-mates in the language, but in an effort to make him feel welcome some are also chatting to him in English.
"I can't say enough about the lads and how they made me feel welcome and at home," he said. "They've all put in a lot of effort, spoken to me, made me feel comfortable and made sure any questions I had - especially with the translations and things - they've helped me a lot with everything. I can't thank them enough and now we're excited for the game to start."

Porto transfer targets did not want to play in Club World Cup, says Villas-Boas
June 17 (Reuters) - Portuguese side Porto struggled to recruit players ahead of FIFA's expanded Club World Cup, with transfer targets turning down moves specifically to avoid the tournament's additional fixture burden, club president Andre Villas-Boas said. FIFA had given leagues the option to open the transfer window between June 1-10 so participating clubs could sign players before the month-long tournament in the United States. "We tested the market recently, so we had a special transfer window from June 1-10 where the Club World Cup clubs operated. It was incredible to see that a lot of football players didn't want to be in the competition," Villas-Boas told Men in Blazers. "They prefer to rest in order to start afresh in the new season. So this is actually outstanding as well because FIFPRO (the global players' union) is demanding more rest for the players." A FIFPRO study concluded that a four-week off-season break should be mandatory for professional soccer players. "With the World Cup coming in America next season (2026), it's an even bigger competition -- more teams, probably 1,200 athletes in one competition," he added. "So the calendar is becoming exhausting and we have more injuries... The players can't put on a good spectacle if they are not fresh." Villas-Boas, a former manager at clubs like Porto, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, also said that the expanded 32-team tournament comes at a "very bad time" for European clubs who wrapped up an exhausting season in May. Porto drew 0-0 with Palmeiras in their opening group game where the Brazilian side dominated the contest but were unable to find a breakthrough. "A few of us (European clubs) have had to give a vacation to the players, then we have to bring them back early without time enough for them to reset," Villas-Boas said. "So for us, we are like in a continuation of the last season. And whatever happens after this tournament, the new season is coming, so they never actually have the reset that they need (going) into a new season." Porto will next play Lionel Messi's Inter Miami on Thursday.
