MLS roundup: Quakes sign GK Daniel to extension
February 11 - The San Jose Earthquakes signed goalkeeper Daniel to a contract extension through 2026 on Tuesday with options for 2027 and 2028.
The 30-year-old Brazilian posted six clean sheets in 34 MLS matches in his first two seasons with the Quakes from 2023-24. Hamstring surgery limited him to 12 appearances last season.
"We're pleased to re-sign Daniel," sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said. "We believe he can be among the top goalkeepers in Major League Soccer and look forward to his playing a critical role in improving our team in the defending end of the field."
--The Houston Dynamo signed free agent midfielder Junior Urso through 2025 with an option for 2026.
The 35-year-old Brazilian has recorded 13 goals and 10 assists in 117 matches (91 starts) with Orlando City SC (2020-23) and Charlotte FC (2024).
"Junior is a vastly experienced central midfielder with a history of making his teams better," president of soccer Pat Onstad said. "Junior is a winner, and he has qualified for the playoffs every year that he has played in MLS and lifted trophies inside and outside the league."
--The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired forward Emmanuel Sabbi from French Ligue 1 side Le Havre AC.
Sabbi, 27, is under contract through 2027 with an option for 2028.
He has recorded 43 goals and 23 assists in 219 professional appearances in Denmark and France.
--FC Dallas acquired Dutch defender Osaze Urhoghide from French second-division side Amiens SC.
Urhoghide, 24, signed a four-year deal through 2028 with a club option for 2029 and will occupy an international roster slot.
Terms were not disclosed, but FC Dallas said his transfer fee was the highest paid for a defender in franchise history.
--D.C. United signed free agent midfielder Brandon Servania through 2026 with an option for 2027.
Servania, 25, has posted five goals and eight assists in 98 MLS matches (65 starts) with FC Dallas (2019-22) and Toronto FC (2023-24).
--Nashville SC acquired 18-year-old midfielder Matthew Corcoran from USL Championship side Birmingham Legion FC. He is under contract through 2027 with options for 2028 and 2029.
--The Philadelphia Union signed 18-year-old homegrown forward Eddy Davis III through 2027 with options for 2028 and 2029. He scored a club-record 13 goals last season with MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Philadelphia Union II.

Ex-Man Utd star to reunite with Greenwood after missing out on dream return
Former Manchester United star Angel Gomes will link up with Mason Greenwood after sealing a shock transfer to Marseille. The England midfielder was out of contract this summer. He had been linked with a return to Old Trafford, while Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham were also credited with an interest. Despite that, Gomes has chosen to move elsewhere. According to RMC Sport, he is set to move to the French giants, who have offered the midfielder a three-year deal at the Stade Velodrome. Gomes will link up with former United teammate and fellow academy graduate Greenwood with his new employers. The striker moved to France permanently last summer and went on to score 22 goals across his debut campaign. Greenwood has been linked with a move of his own amid reported interest from Barcelona but has expressed his desire to remain with Marseille. Speaking earlier this year, he said: "I hope to be here next year for the Champions League. 'All the other players tell me that the stadium is something special. I think it's been a very positive season, we've reached our objective." Gomes, 24, has been with Lille since leaving Old Trafford in 2021. The four-time England international has gone on to make 134 appearances for the club, scoring on ten occasions. Speaking previously, he admitted that he would potentially be open to a return to United. As quoted by L'Equipe, he said: 'It was a very difficult decision. In my heart, I wanted to leave, in my head, I was thinking of staying. But I had to follow my heart. I felt that I needed to take another step in my career. "I felt that had I stayed, there wouldn't be a lot of opportunities for me. Luis Campos [Lille's then sporting director] and Lille spoke about their project and I believed in it even more, that's what convinced me to move - the faith Lille had in me. "Do I imagine myself coming back one day? Obviously, it's home. I would love to come back. But you never know in football. I just have to keep my feet on the ground, and keep playing, making the most of it. I can't predict what will happen in the future." On his visit, Hamilton said: "I struggled in school and never felt like my voice was heard, that's why I know first-hand that ensuring every student feels they belong in school is vital. "I'm grateful that, off the back of this meeting, the government has committed to working with Mission 44 to enact change focused on making the education system more inclusive. "He's 12 and a half years old, so he's an old boy and it's unusual for them to live that long." When quizzed on Roscoe's next appearance, Hamilton said: "I really want to take him to Silverstone, and particularly Monza, this year. "I plan to put him in a red cape and outfit. I was with him before Miami and he still wants to play. "He's still got that youthful spirit. But he does like to sleep a lot."
