Google Wallet will now alert you about your ticket or pass right when you need it

TL;DR Google Wallet is adding support for Nearby Passes notifications.
Once enabled, this feature will provide timely and relevant information about passes when a user approaches a point of interest.
Users will be able to control Nearby Passes notifications for passes individually and in general.
While digging into the Google Wallet app last November, we noticed code referencing a new location-based notification feature. This feature would send you information based on your precise location. Google has now officially introduced this feature as Nearby Passes notifications.
During a Google I/O session this week, the tech giant announced it is adding support for Nearby Passes notifications in Wallet. Just as it sounds, this feature aims to notify you about timely and relevant information about pertinent passes when you approach a point of interest. This pertains to passes such as loyalty cards, offers, boarding passes, or event tickets.
This feature won't be turned on by default, so you'll need to enable it before you can begin using it. Once it's enabled, you'll start receiving notifications like in the image above. For example, if you're going to a concert, once your device detects you're near the venue, Wallet will send a notification. You'll be able to tap on this notification to be taken directly to your ticket. This way, you won't have to take up your valuable time opening the app and searching around for your stored pass.
It's important to note that this feature may require developers to specify the geofence locations where Wallet passes can be used. This means that it may not work for all passes stored in your Wallet app right away.
Google Wallet is also adding two new toggles to control Nearby Passes notifications. The first toggle is located in the Pass Detail screen and allows you to turn notifications from that particular pass on or off. This applies to all notifications, including field updates and Nearby Passes alerts. Meanwhile, the second toggle can be found in the Nearby Passes Notifications Channel. This toggle controls whether you see Nearby Passes notifications in general.
This kind of feature should make accessing passes in Google Wallet more seamless than before. It's also nice that you have the option to choose which passes use this feature or turn it off completely.

Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 Wallpaper Studio offers a home for its best customization tools
Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Google's been refreshing its Wallpapers & style app for Android 16 QPR1 with new features like Magic Portrait and theme support. With QPR1 Beta 2 the company has started grouping together its wallpaper creation and editing tools under a new Wallpaper Studio banner. This replaces the previous 'suggested photos' view. When you're interested in customizing the look and feel of your Pixel phone, there's probably nowhere better to start than Google's own Wallpaper & style app. It already offered a ton of control over setting up both your lock screen and home screen, and it's only been getting better as of late, thanks to some smart UI updates in QPR1 Beta 1. With this week's release of QPR1 Beta 2 we've been digging around in search of everything new Google's managed to cook up, and have identified some further improvements hitting Wallpaper & style. In Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2, when you go to select a wallpaper in the Wallpaper & style app (or simply accessed through system settings) you'll discover a new Wallpaper Studio section up top. Now we should be clear that functionally we're not seeing anything new here; the actual wallpaper creation and editing tools found with this release are all ones we were already aware of, but are now being grouped together in this convenient fashion. That offers a one-stop shop for not just generating emoji wallpaper, but also taking advantage of Google's powerful effects and AI tools. Those include options like making pseudo-3D effects with Cinematic wallpapers or tapping into the generative power of the AI wallpaper tools Google introduced with the Pixel 8 series. Maybe the coolest present here is the Magic Portrait feature we only just got to know with QPR1 Beta 1, which beyond offering some clever framing modes allows you to do stuff like applying dynamic weather effects, helping your phone's wallpaper reflect the world around you. While we'd definitely love to see Wallpaper & style pick up even more functionality along that line, a little UI cleanup and the introduction of this appropriate Wallpaper Studio branding is just fine by us, too. Keep checking in with Android Authority for even more coverage of the changes Google's packed into QPR1 Beta 2. We've already spotted things like a status bar reorganization and smarter volume controls, and you had better believe that the list will only keep growing. Got a tip? Talk to us! Google will reduce Pixel 6A battery capacity due to overheating issues
Earlier this year, Google shipped a Pixel 4A update to some owners that lowered battery life to mitigate overheating risk, and soon, it's going to do the same for the Pixel 6A. 'A subset of Pixel 6A phones will require a mandatory software update to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating,' Google's Alex Moriconi says in a statement to The Verge. 'The update will enable battery management features that will reduce capacity and charging performance after the battery reaches 400 charge cycles. We'll contact impacted customers next month, with all the information they need to address the issue.' As reported by Android Authority, at least two users have reported instances of their Pixel 6A phones catching fire, with one person on Reddit saying their Pixel 6A 'spontaneously combusted in the middle of the night.' Android Authority also spotted code strings in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 release alerting Pixel 6A users to 'a potential battery overheating issue' and pointing toward a support page at that currently isn't live.

Alphabet (GOOGL) Lands Surprise Win as OpenAI Picks Google Cloud for AI Expansion
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is one of the 10 AI Stocks on Wall Street's Radar. On June 10, Reuters reported that OpenAI is planning to add Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s Google cloud service to meet its growing needs for computing capacity. Despite being competitors in the artificial intelligence space, the collaboration is a surprising highlight of the strategic need for companies to pool resources to accelerate AI adoption. According to the sources, the deal was under discussion for a few months and was finalized in May. The massive demand for computing to train and deploy AI models significantly reshapes competitive dynamics, highlighting OpenAI's latest efforts to diversify its compute sources beyond Microsoft. Google's cloud unit will now supply additional computing capacity to OpenAI's existing infrastructure for training and running its AI models, a major win for the company. Discussing the aforementioned deal, Scotiabank analysts have deemed the development to be 'somewhat surprising.' They pointed toward growth opportunities for Google's Cloud unit and also expressed caution regarding competition from ChatGPT. 'The deal … underscores the fact that the two are willing to overlook heavy competition between them to meet the massive computing demands. Ultimately, we view this as a big win for Google's cloud unit, but … there are continued worries that ChatGPT is becoming an incrementally larger threat to Google's search dominance.' While we acknowledge the potential of GOOGL as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
