Timothy West 'died peacefully' after hospital stay
Actor Timothy West died "peacefully with his family around him" at a care home where he was being looked after following a fall, an inquest has heard.
West, who was married to actress Prunella Scales for more than 60 years, appeared in TV sitcoms Not Going Out, dramas such as Bleak House and Gentleman Jack, and soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders.
Westminster Coroner's Court heard the Bradford-born actor had had a fall on 11 August last year, which resulted in a "significant traumatic brain injury".
Assistant coroner Ellie Oakley said he had been treated in hospital for about three months before being moved to Wandsworth Common Care Home where he was receiving palliative care before his death on 12 November.
She said: "It is not possible to determine how the fall happened and there is no evidence of others being involved.
"Unfortunately he was not well enough to be discharged to his home despite receiving appropriate care in the care home."
The care home's general manager, Thomas Holden, said in a statement read out at the inquest: "On 12 November his family were with him all day.
"They continued to stay with him in his room during the evening and he passed away peacefully with his family around him at 19:20."
In a statement announcing his death last year, West's children Juliet, Samuel and Joseph said: "After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old.
"He leaves his wife, Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly."
West and Scales, 92, who played Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, appeared in the documentary series Great Canal Journeys between 2014 and 2021, which saw them travelling on narrowboats.
The couple married in 1963 and had two sons, Samuel and Joseph.
West was also married to actor Jacqueline Boyer from 1956 to 1961, and they had a daughter, Juliet.

Coronation Street fuels fan theory over Daniel's new love interest
follow from , which is available to watch now on ITVX but hasn't yet aired on ITV1. Coronation Street has fuelled a key fan theory over Daniel Osbourne's new relationship storyline. Fans are busy speculating over who Daniel's next girlfriend will be, after actor Rob Mallard shared a new storyline teaser with us on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards last week. With the news that Daniel could be moving on from Bethany Platt and Daisy Midgeley, some viewers have started to wonder whether Dee-Dee Bailey could be the lady in question. With interesting timing, Dee-Dee shares scenes with Daniel in tonight's episode as they have an unexpected heart-to-heart at the Bistro. Related: When Daniel's friend cancels lunch plans, Dee-Dee invites him to join her at her table instead. Daniel takes the opportunity to share his concerns over local teens Dylan Wilson and Brody Michaelis, who are butting heads after their tense time together in the Secure Training Centre. Meanwhile, Dee-Dee speaks to Daniel on how she's feeling following her decision to give away her baby daughter Laila to her brother James. Could this unexpected friendship be an early red herring – or a sign of things to come? Related: In his exclusive chat with us at the British Soap Awards, Rob explained: "I'm not allowed to say anything too specific, but sure enough, he'll be falling for another woman. He'll be falling head over heels again. When that happens, I'm not too sure. "And he's gone back to work at the school. We've got all the kids in the show, and with the age that they're at with the storylines, I should be involved with the younger cast a bit more." Asked whether Daniel will learn from his previous romantic mistakes, Rob laughed: "No, he can't! He's Ken's son, isn't he? Everything's got to be a mess all the time. "So I'm expecting just more chaotic relationships, just over and over and over again."Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. How social media is transforming wedding days
A wedding content creator said described how more couples are embracing seeing their big day through the candid lens of a mobile phone. Geared with just an iPhone, Beth Denman, 25, and her team take thousands of photos and videos during weddings, which are edited into short form content for social media. She started Social Scenes from her home in Attleborough, Norfolk, two years ago and has now grown it into a team of five. "It's very candid and in the moment... it's the moments that are often missed by the bride and groom," Ms Denman said. She first discovered wedding content creation in 2023, on social media posts from Australia. Ms Denman estimated that, at the time, there were just three other wedding creators in Norfolk. "I thought that I could totally do this. I noticed that no-one was really doing it in Norfolk," she said. She estimates there are now about 20 people providing a similar service across the county. The wedding planning website, Hitched, has reported a 586% rise in searches for wedding content creators in 2025. Ms Denman said she plays the role of the "uninvited but invited guest". "We blend in with the shadows and we gravitate around the wedding to capture different parts," she added. Wedding creators such as Ms Denman work alongside traditional photographers and videographers to capture the big day. Although they may seem similar, Ms Denman said wedding creators worked candidly, sometimes providing content for couples within 24 hours. "I think if people see it as the death of the photographer or videographer, they're getting the complete wrong conception," she added. "Content creators aren't a replacement for anybody... we are an addition." Wedding photographer Ellie Gillard agrees that the services they provide differ. Ms Gillard has been a wedding photographer in Norfolk and London for 14 years, and has photographed more than 400 weddings. "Content creators serve a different purpose in the grand scheme of things," she said. "It's great for people who are very present on social media - the content that they give you are almost instant. "But people have had photographers at their wedding since photography began, and it fits that tradition." She has previously worked with content creators and believes their job is not as simple as some may think. "The growth of content creators means that some people think it's fun, that they can turn up and just point their phones at things," she said. "But there is more to it than that... it's really important that you blend into the day seamlessly." Follow Norfolk news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. Carlos Alcaraz came back from two sets to one down to win the French Open title in 2024 [Getty Images] French Open 2025 Dates: 25 May-8 June Venue: Roland Garros Coverage: Live radio commentaries across 5 Live Sport and BBC Sounds, plus live text commentaries on the BBC Sport website and app The second Grand Slam of the year is approaching its conclusion, with some of the world's best players still in contention to win the French Open in Paris. The women's finalists have already been confirmed, with Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff - ranked first and second in the world respectively - set to meet on Saturday. Advertisement While there is no Rafael Nadal in the men's draw after the record 14-time champion retired in 2024, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are among the star names looking to add another major title to their collection. There will be comprehensive coverage of the tournament across the BBC - here are all the key details. When is the French Open 2025? The clay-court Grand Slam started on Sunday, 25 May and finishes on Sunday, 8 June. The women's singles final takes place on Saturday, 7 June, with the men's final concluding the tournament a day later. How to follow the French Open on the BBC There will be daily live text commentaries of the key matches from the French Open on the BBC Sport website and app. Advertisement 5 Live Sport has daily coverage and commentary live from Court Philippe-Chatrier across 5 Live Sport, BBC Sounds and the BBC Sport website. Tennis correspondent Russell Fuller will be joined by Katie Smith, Abigail Johnson and David Law, with analysis from Annabel Croft, Greg Rusedski, Naomi Broady, Ryan Harrison, Daniela Hantuchova and others. Commentary of the day sessions will take place from 13:00 BST and 19:30 for the night sessions. Who won the French Open in 2024? Alcaraz won his first French Open title last year, coming back from two sets to one down to see off Alexander Zverev in the men's singles. Advertisement Spain's Alcaraz is a four-time major champion, having gone on to defend his Wimbledon title just five weeks later. Iga Swiatek arrived at Roland Garros as the three-time defending champion in the women's singles, beating Jasmine Paolini in last year's final. Swiatek has won four of the past five women's singles titles at Roland Garros - however, her semi-final exit means there will be a new name on the trophy in 2025. What is the prize money? The total prize money for the French Open is 56.352m euros (£47.5m) - an increase on last year of 5.21%. The men's and women's singles champions will win 2.55m euros, with the runner-up taking home 1.275m euros. Who is still in contention? World number one Sinner and second-ranked Alcaraz, the favourites on the men's side, are both through to the semi-finals. Advertisement The pair, who cannot meet until the final because of their seedings, recently contested the Italian Open final, with Alcaraz triumphing. Djokovic, a three-time champion in Paris, is bidding for a record 25th Grand Slam singles title. The 38-year-old Serb has struggled for form this year but is into the last four, where he will meet Sinner. Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year, will be the next opponent for defending champion Alcaraz. In the women's draw, Sabalenka ended Swiatek's 26-match winning run at the French Open with a three-set victory in their much-anticipated semi-final. Advertisement Gauff easily got past the tournament's surprise package - French wildcard Lois Boisson - in her semi-final, dropping just three games in a convincing victory. Boisson, who began the event as the world number 361, had knocked out top-10 players Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva on her way to the last four. Sabalenka and Gauff have won Grand Slam titles previously, but neither player has lifted the singles' trophy at Roland Garros before. How did British players fare in main draw? Seven Britons qualified for the French Open, with Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie going furthest before exits in the last 16. Advertisement British number one and fifth seed Draper was beaten by Alexander Bublik in four sets, while Norrie lost to 24-time major champion Djokovic. Norrie had beaten fast-rising Jacob Fearnley in an all-British contest in the third round. It was the first time since 1963 that two British men had reached the fourth round at the clay-court Grand Slam. Katie Boulter, the highest-ranked British woman in the singles draw, and Sonay Kartal both lost in the second round. Emma Raducanu's run in Paris was also ended in round two with a straight-set defeat by Poland's Swiatek. Jodie Burrage was the only British player to lose in the first round, beaten by former world number seven Danielle Collins in straight sets. When was the French Open draw? The French Open singles draw took place on Thursday, 22 May. Advertisement There are 128 players in each singles draw and the top 32 are seeded according to their ranking. What time do the matches take place? Play takes place from 11am local time (10:00 BST) at Roland Garros, with the night sessions beginning not before 20:15 (19:15 BST).
