Abu Dhabi bans new groundwater wells in key areas to protect reserves
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has issued a resolution prohibiting the drilling of new groundwater wells in designated areas across the emirate, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve Abu Dhabi's groundwater reserves.
Developed in coordination with relevant authorities, the resolution falls under Law No. (5) of 2016, which regulates groundwater management in Abu Dhabi and authorises the EAD to establish prohibited zones while issuing guidelines to maintain groundwater quality and regulate consumption.
