A former Donald Trump supporter who participated in the January 6, 2021 riots at the US Capitol building, has shared a letter from ex-vice president Mike Pence, who applauded her for turning down Trump's
presidential pardon
.
Pence, who was Trump's vice president during the latter's first term in office, told Pamela "Pam" Hemphill that he appreciates her "commitment to the rule of law."
"It's been a long and hard journey, but this letter I received today has made every heartache, smear campaign and sleepless night more than worth it," Hemphill, the now-former "MAGA (Make America Great Again) Granny" posted on X, along with the letter.
In it, Pence said, "Dear Pamela, I am writing to express my admiration for your decision to refuse a presidential pardon and accept responsibility for your actions on January 6th, which was a tragic day."
The Republican further stated that he fulfilled his duty by certifying peaceful transfer of power to the next president and vice president - Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, respectively.
He added, "Your honorable decision speaks volume about your commitment to the Rule of Law and I wanted to pass along my genuine respect. I am certain that your willingness to accept responsibility has inspired many Americans by your example of integrity and faith.

Earlier this month, Hemphill, who spent two months in a federal prison and remains on probation for her participation in the violence, told CNN that accepting a pardon would be a 'slap' in the face to Capitol police officers and the rule of law.
Trump granted pardon to around 1,500 Capitol building rioters in January, in one of the first actions of his second and final term. In November last year, he defeated Harris to become America's president for a second time.
Instead of Pence, the MAGA leader chose JD Vance as his vice president.

Rajkot: A physiotherapist already behind bars for fraudulently facilitating a Rs 40 lakh mediclaim for a tea vendor using forged medical documents is now accused in a second, similar case. Ankit Kathrani, the accused, allegedly claimed Rs 22.5 lakh in 2022 by submitting fabricated medical certificates and diagnostic reports, falsely citing a brain stroke. While the claim was processed in 2022, the irregularities came to light only recently when a private insurance company re-examined his records following his arrest in the earlier case. The company lodged the complaint at Gandhigram police station on Wednesday. In April, Kathrani was arrested for allegedly assisting Mayur Chhuchhar in creating fake medical records to claim Rs 40 lakh. Speaking to TOI, Srinivas Narsaiya, the complainant and a senior company official, said, "On Aug 31, 2022, Kathrani submitted forged brain MRI reports and medical papers of an imaging centre to claim he was suffering from a cerebrovascular accident or CV stroke. The remaining amount was transferred to Kathrani's bank account. After Kathrani's arrest in April, the insurance company which approved his personal claim of Rs 22.49 lakh in 2022 reviewed the case and found irregularities. Upon reopening the case, the company discovered that the MRI report was fabricated. On April 29, 2025, a senior executive of the imaging centre confirmed in a written communication to TPA that no MRI scan was conducted for Kathrani on the specified date. He also submitted fake medical documents, allegedly issued by a private hospital in Rajkot. ACP (west), Radhika Bharai, said, "We have initiated an investigation to identify others who may have been involved in this fraudulent activity along with Dr Kathrani. We will seek his custody from jail for further interrogation."

To quote an excerpt from the US President's post on Mamdani: 'We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks terrible, his voice is grating, he's not very smart. But here's why Mamdani is now a thorn in Trump's side: So much so that Zohran has publicly stated that as mayor, he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a newfound ally of Trump, if Bibi visited New York, citing International Criminal Court arrest warrants issued in November 2024. Mamdani has also led chants in support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement at pro-Palestinian protests. 'Anti-India, anti-Modi, and anti-Hindu'? But that's not all. The Indian-origin mayoral candidate is also being slammed for being anti-India, anti-Modi, and anti-Hindu. Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut re-shared an X post claiming Zohran once led a mob of protesters in Times Square, abusing Hindus and Lord Ram. Even though Ranaut praised Mamdani's mother, Mira Nair, for being one of India's best filmmakers, she said Zohran sounds more Pakistani than Indian. In fact, she even raised doubts about his Hindu identity and accused Mamdani of trying to wipe out Hinduism. Mamdani was born and raised in Uganda. At the age of 7, he moved to New York City with his family. Interestingly, Zohran's father, Mahmood Mamdani, a Ugandan, has roots in Gujarat. The 33-year-old has condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and compared him with Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu over the 2002 Gujarat riots. This is why Indian-origin American leaders in New York, like Jaspreet Singh and Jennifer Kumar, have accused Mamdani of using communal rhetoric after he condemned the Indian PM. They have slammed him for using 'divisive rhetoric" in the mayoral elections when crime and housing crises have been the key issues. What are his chances? The question remains: Is Mamdani's commanding lead a sign of his sure-shot victory? Because he now faces another tough task of defeating Mayor Eric Adams and a Republican opponent—and maybe even Andrew Cuomo again—in the general election. All of this while fending off critics who argue that the 33-year-old democratic socialist is too far to the left and already controversy's favourite child in New York City, home to one of the largest Indian American and Jewish populations in the United States.
