Jamion Christian replaces Phil Martelli Jr. at Bryant
April 3 - Bryant hired Jamion Christian as the new head coach of its men's basketball team on Thursday.
Christian, 42, previously held that role at alma mater Mount St. Mary's (2012-18), Siena (2018-19) and George Washington (2019-22). He spent the past couple of seasons coaching a professional team in Italy.
Christian replaces Phil Martelli Jr., who left the Bulldogs to become the head coach at VCU on March 26.
Bryant finished 23-12 this season and earned a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament, losing to No. 2 Michigan State in the first round.
"As the head coach I am looking forward to enhancing the momentum that we have as a program," Christian said. "We will compete. We will play with joy. We will show how powerful connection can be. We will elevate those around us with our actions."
Bryant, located in Smithfield, R.I., competes in the America East Conference.
"Today is a great day for the Bryant University men's basketball program," athletic director Bill Smith said. .".. Coach Christian is an outstanding coach and a tireless recruiter who is committed to developing and mentoring student-athletes to achieve success both on the floor and in the classroom."
Christian has compiled a 147-161 record, taking Mount St. Mary's to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and 2017. He was named the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year in 2016-17.

‘I don't think it is great to have sporting games on a Sunday': Presbyterian Moderator shares view amid debate on changing NI football schedule
The incoming Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) has confirmed he would not attend a football match on a Sunday, in reference to the ongoing debate about altering the Northern Irish soccer schedule. Speaking ahead of next week's General Assembly, when he will be formally installed as Moderator, Dr Rev Trevor Gribben (64) also said he believes there may be a 'female Moderator [for the church] in future'. The Moderator for the PCI is the most senior office-bearer in the organisation, each one serving a one-year term in the post. Originally from Tandragee, Rev Gribben had been serving his denomination as a clerk since 2014. The views of the new Moderator were shared at a briefing today, which was held in the lead-up to next week's General Assembly — the 38th he will attend. While in the past Moderators had the theme for their tenure chose by the church, in this case Rev Gribben was able to select his own. Rev Trevor Gribben believes it is 'not particularly great' to have significant matches on a Sunday Since ceasing his duties as an Assembly clerk on May 12 to take up his new role, the reverend announced that his theme will be 'Hope and Future in Jesus'. Rev Gribben was questioned on his view on Sunday matches, as well as female Moderators, the latter of which he believed will happen 'in the future' if it is 'God's will'. As a supporter of Belfast club Linfield, Rev Gribben believes it is 'not particularly great' to have significant matches played on the Sabbath. His take on the debate comes amid ongoing discussion between fans and authorities of the local game, this newspaper reporting last month that the Irish FA and NI Football League have joined forces in a concerted effort to push through a proposal on Sunday football at the IFA's Annual General Meeting later this month. Currently, league matches here can only be played on a Sunday if both participating teams agree to it. 'I would probably not go on Sunday myself. I have other things to do then,' said Rev Gribben. 'I don't think it is particularly great to have significant sporting games on a Sunday. If I was out for a walk and I saw people playing cricket on a Sunday afternoon, I may stop to look at that. 'The Irish Football Association, for the Premier League in particular, states that games can be played on a Sunday, but only if both teams agree. 'If one team says they don't want to play on Sunday, then they won't be forced to. 'I think that, as a church, we are content with that position. I want to live in a world where we didn't have that on a Sunday. 'But we do not feel that people should be forced to play on a Sunday. 'It is not just people who are coming from a church or religious backgrounds [saying this], it is also people who are part-time players. 'They have day jobs; they don't want to be playing on Saturday and Sundays. 'Sundays are an important day for them, for their family. It's not just for Christian perspectives.' Regarding ordination, Rev Gribben said at the briefing that, within the PCI, both men and women 'have equal opportunity to be Moderator'. 'I believe it is God's will that a female Moderator will be chosen. Women are open to be Moderator as much as men. The opportunity is there,' he added. 'Men and women are both eligible for ordination. In my time in the Assembly, 30-plus years, I have seen some really good women being nominated [to be Moderator]. 'And I have also seen, just because of the numbers, even more really good men be nominated… and not be elected. 'Do I think there will be a female Moderator in future? I think I got into a lot of trouble for this last year, but, yes, I think there will be.' At the General Assembly, made up of ministers and elders from more than 500 congregations, a number of church 'mergers' will be discussed in addition to their '10 plus 10 in 10' goal. Among churches set to be merged include First Portglenone Presbyterian Church and Town Hill. 'This is a strategy to plant 10 new congregations, plus 10 other missional enterprises, in the next 10 years,' said Rev Gribben. 'I am actually delighted that that is the first session I made since being the Moderator. 'We have planted new churches. There is one growing in Carlisle Circus. There is another about to be established in the old May Street buildings. 'This new vision of '10 plus 10 in 10' I think is very exciting. 'Listening to the global church, we have got delegates coming this year from Malawi, Indonesia, Greece and an official delegate from the Evangelical Church of USA. 'With the latter, we are trying to formalise our fraternal and confessional relations with them. 'General Assemblies are times when the PCI family comes together from across the island to pray, worship and be guided by God,' said Rev Gribben. 'It is also part of the democratic heart of our Presbyterian denomination.'

The team won't be much of a player in the draft, as they don't have a first-round pick and their second-round pick is No. 50 overall. There will be a number of candidates whom the team could go after, starting with one who used to be on their bench. Johnnie Bryant Bryant was an associate head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season and spent four years with the Knicks under Thibodeau. The 39-year-old started his coaching career in 2012 with the Utah Jazz as a player development assistant before being promoted to assistant head coach two years later. Bryant is reportedly a candidate for the open Phoenix Suns job. Jordan Ott Another hot Cavaliers assistant is Ott, and he is also a finalist for the Suns job. Under the tutelage of head coach Kenny Atkinson, who won the NBA Coach of the Year award, Ott helped a Cleveland team that had the league's top offensive rating and No. 8 defensive rating, led by Defensive Player of the Year, Evan Mobley. Michael Malone The no-nonsense Malone led the Denver Nuggets to the title in 2023, but was fired just a week before the playoffs in a move that stunned the league. Malone stresses defense, and the Knicks had glaring deficiencies at times when Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns were on the floor, but despite that, New York had a 113.3 defensive rating in the regular season, good for fifth in the league. Taylor Jenkins Another head coach who was unceremoniously given the boot before the playoffs, Jenkins led Memphis to a 44-29 record and the fifth seed in the Western Conference. He is the franchise leader in wins with 250. Memphis made the play-in tournament and was subsequently swept in four games by the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder this season. Mike Brown Knicks fans are certainly familiar with Brown as he was a possible head coach candidate with the team twice in the past 10 years. Brown is a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, and was fired by the Sacramento Kings in December after the Kings got off to a 13-18 start. Mike Budenholzer Budenholzer was just let go by the Phoenix Suns after one season, but the two-time Coach of the Year has championship experience, leading the Milwaukee Bucks to a title in 2021. He has coached in the conference finals three times, twice with the Bucks and once with the Atlanta Hawks. Terry Stotts Stotts, an assistant for Golden State, knows stars and knows offense - he coached Damian Lillard in Portland where Stotts regularly produced top-10 offenses. Stotts was 402-318 in nine seasons with the Trail Blazers, including three 50-win campaigns. He led them to the Western Conference finals in 2019. Adrian Griffin Griffin had a short run as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks and was 30-13 when the Bucks fired him midway through the 2023-24 season. The former NBA player and longtime NBA assistant is expected to get another chance with an NBA team. Darvin Ham Ham lasted two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, going to the conference finals in 2023 and losing in the first round last season. Ham, who spent several seasons as an assistant for Budenholzer in Atlanta and Milwaukee, returned to the Bucks this season as an assistant for Doc Rivers. Wild cards

Christian Eriksen shoots down rumour of next club after Man Utd exit
Christian Eriksen is looking for a new club after Manchester United, but he will not find it in his home country of Denmark. The 33-year-old has been with the Red Devils since 2022 and leaves after making 107 appearances, scoring eight goals. It has been a pretty underwhelming spell at Old Trafford for the Dane, but he did pick up FA Cup and Carabao Cup winners medals under Erik ten Hag. His contract comes to an end this month and the midfielder will be on the move, with his next destination unknown at this stage. However, he knows where it will not be, after being linked with a romantic return to the club he spent time with as a teenager, OB. 'It's the football rumour mill. I hope no one has put money on it happening now, because then they'll lose.' Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoots, has indeed been harpooning the rumour as well, telling BT: 'Christian is still ambitious and has a lot to give to a bigger league. 'I can easily see him playing in his home country in the future, but I think for now it will only be for the national team.' 'I would rather get away from the Premier League,' he told TV 2. 'I feel I have had my turn in the Premier League, so I am looking outside the English borders. 'It's been a great place for me and my family, and we've been there for many years. 'When I moved from Tottenham to Inter, it wasn't the plan for me to go back to England. I've been there for three and a half years again since then, so you can never say never, but the priority is for me to leave.' There seems little rush for him to make a decision on what will be next, prioritising upcoming Denmark fixtures against Northern Ireland and Lithuania and then a family holiday. 'Right now there is nothing,' he said. 'There is interest all around, but there is nothing that I am close to signing. 'My focus will be to play international matches and then have a good summer holiday. Then we will see how long the holiday will be.'
