Shocking pictures of the aftermath of Celtic 'title party'

Yahoo18-05-2025

Images show the aftermath of an unofficial title party by Celtic fans yesterday.
Following the Hoops lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy at Celtic Park, thousands of supporters gathered to celebrate at Trongate.
As fans slowly dispersed and police closed in around 8pm, the Glasgow Times took exclusive pictures of the scene.
Strewn across the road, pavements and street furniture, a sea of rubbish was pictured, including broken glass, cans, plastic bags, discarded vapes and flares.
Bins were overfilled, liquids were spilled and stickers were plastered all over the surroundings.
In the late hours of the day, council employees and volunteers cleaned up the area, getting it ready for the Race of Life, a charity running event cutting through Merchant City this morning.

From the early afternoon, a large crowd took over the Merchant City area, dressed in green-and-white.
Participants sang songs, waved flags and drank in celebration.
We previously reported that a similar unofficial event by Celtic fans last year cost the council £100,000 in cleanup fees, including repairs to the historic Mercat Cross.

Wimmer's shock exit left O'Donnell 'baffled & gutted'

Defender Stephen O'Donnell said he was left feeling "pretty baffled" and "gutted" after Michael Wimmer's shock exit as Motherwell manager. The former Stuttgart coach left Fir Park for family reasons, returning to Germany to join third-tier club Jahn Regensburg. Advertisement Ex-Scotland right-back O'Donnell was a regular under Wimmer, who had comfortably guided the Lanarkshire side to top-flight survival. O'Donnell said there was plenty of positivity heading into next season. Then came the "massive shock" of the manager's departure last month. "At the end of the [last game of the season] he thanked us," O'Donnell said on BBC Sportsound. "There was lots of optimism going forward. "Then when I got the text I was pretty baffled. He'd spoken a couple times about his family. These are the kind of things you don't question, family comes first. Advertisement "I was gutted personally. I'd been playing and was looking forward to next season." Motherwell are yet to appoint a replacement for Wimmer. On Sunday's Sportsound, former Hearts boss Steven Naismith said the role would not interest him. Meanwhile, O'Donnell said he would be "excited to work" under another foreign coach.

Leinster 37-19 Glasgow: Three things we learned

Scots downed in Dublin… again For a Scottish rugby player, heading for Dublin must be about as much fun as heading to the dentist – you know there's going to be pain. No Scottish side has ever won at the Aviva Stadium and Irish rugby's haunted house spooked Glasgow into playing well below their capabilities. Advertisement Leinster were very good. There was a lot of pre-match chat about them being off the boil, but the sight of Scottish opposition on home soil was the perfect tonic. It followed a similar pattern to many Irish v Scottish match-ups in recent times, and the hex the Irish have over their Celtic cousins shows little sign of being broken any time soon. Warriors can be proud of title defence Despite the disappointing finale, Glasgow can be proud of the defence they put up of their URC title in what has been a very testing season. The injury list has been savage. Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones, Zander Fagerson, Scott Cummings and Jack Dempsey have all missed big chunks of the season. They're not the only ones. Advertisement It's been a struggle and Warriors have had to dig far down into their reserves to find players to step into the breach. The fact they made it to the last four, and dispatched a good Stormers side so impressively in the quarter-finals, is an achievement in itself. Franco Smith – will he stay or will he go? Franco Smith looked emotionally drained when he spoke to BBC Scotland in the bowels of the Aviva Stadium after Saturday's defeat. Long seasons away from your family, living every moment of highs and lows of a team you have invested so much into emotionally, will do that to you. The South African was in no mood to offer any guarantees he will still be at Scotstoun next season. Advertisement Smith is clearly unhappy at the direction of travel under performance director David Nucifora with regards to player recruitment, and you wonder if the head coach perhaps feels he has done all he can at Glasgow Warriors.
